George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo scored his second goal of the season as Gor Mahia cruised past ‘Slum Boys’ to maintain their push for successive title

George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo scored his second goal of the season as Gor Mahia edged out Mathare United 1-0 in Sunday’s Kenyan Premier League match at City Stadium.

Odhiambo headed home a Dan Sserunkuma long cross in 36th minute to enable the league champions to extend their lead at the top of the log to four points ahead of second placed Sofapaka.

It was another great afternoon for the former KPL player of the year, who is trying to recapture his old form after two tough years in which he struggled to hold down club position.

He scored his first goal of the season when Gor Mahia hammered Nairobi City Stars 4-1 at Nyayo Stadium and looks certain to play a big role in helping his club to retain league title this season.

Coming into second half of Sunday’s match, Mathare United rested Titieh Olesu for Edwin Ombasa as they fought to equalise but it was Gor Mahia who had first chance at goal when Godfrey Walusimbi’s goal bound effort was clumsily put out by Robert Mboya in goal to earn the champions their first corner in second half.

From the corner Haroun Shakava, who had a free header, jumped too high as his effort went wide. KPL current top scorer Dan Sserunkuma had a quite afternoon but he still managed to send some lethal crosses on target.

Apart from setting up Odhiambo for the opener. he nearly did it again in 65th minute when his long cross found the scorer on the move and he chested it but could not finish the effort.

United then made their second substitution bringing on Emmanuel Ibe for Daniel Mwaura. But they survived a scare when Edgar Ochieng headed out Godfrey Walusimbi’s shot.

With a quarter of an hour to go, Whyvonne Isuza failed to take advantage of a poor clearence by Jerim Onyango to score. Onyango’s clearence had landed on Isuza’s feet and he fumbled with the ball before it was cleared.

Gor Mahia rested Godfrey Walusimbi for Eric Ochieng’ late in the match in a bid to keep a clean sheet.

Though he came on late, Ochieng’ wasted a perfect opportunity to score when he shot wide from a Dan Sserunkuma pass.

It is really good, tusker officials and the ones for sofaka joined hands to settle mathare expenses just like afc did for rangers in 2012 for the sake of blocking gor mahia from lifting the trophy but we have made it.Thanks to the ALMIGHTY GOD.

Good overall organisation and another Fantastic display in defence, however the next match against sofapaka will decide and infact seal our fate for the season.

    I remain ” realistic”

    Have a ” realistic” day.

Congrats boys, that was a good display but on another note, surely that city stadium pitch is not the right surface for a game of football, am fearing for our players.

The opposition will apply all tricks if only to stop us from winning the 14th title. This is the reason why in their despair, Brewkenge can hard-eyedly field 12 players in a game that should be played by a maximum of 11 players aside. I am left wondering that if they can do this against minnows like Muhoroni, then how many other dirty tricks have they applied against giants like Gor Mahia, Sony, Chemelil and Efusi? Shameful.

@Barefoot Bandit we should be thanking “JO-NDHIWA” for that wonderful drama that has caused TUSKER three valuable points. As far as I know the match will be ruled against the BREWKENGE and they should as well kiss bye for the title campaign with their overrated Technical bench.

  • I am very happy that we r now just three points against sofapaka to be crowned champions back to back. I just hope that we shall triumph against sofapaka so that we take it in style like we did last yr. even last yr we beat them to be declared champions. For those who think that gor has gor no quality player shud know that Gor is home of champions & the likes of walusimbi, kizito,Sserenkuma calaba, jerim, blackberry,Gatuso,Musa,Erick,Shakava & kevin oluoch r top class players/champions. kudos to team k’ogalo

Tusker FC is a big disgrace to the football fraternity. How can this happen in the full glare of four officials? I think this is why they had relocated to Meru.

We need to see firm action being taken by both KPL and FKL for this unsportsmanlike behavior. In the modern football, how did this took place unnoticed?

@The Trailer and @The Bandit I can not agree more with your post. Guys @Jack Omollo is spot on. Mathare or rather TUSKER-NDOGO was the remaining last hope for this title pretenders and when they failed to slow us down all hell broke loose in KASARANI with those confusion and VISIRANI perfectly perpetuated and promulgated by JO-NDHIWA.

fantastic display especially in the 2nd half. Defence was rock solid and Mathare almost had nothing to show for their attack in the 2nd half.

On another note, why is Tusker being awarded 3points in yesternight’s game when clearly they played with 12men for 8 minutes. The match should be replayed in all fairness…

    Otherwise gini pod marwa

Tusker team manager is now blaming the match officials, saying its them that should ensure a substitution is complete. He now says his team should be awarded the 3points and Muhoroni penalised for refusing to play.

While he may be right, he cannot completely absolve his team… They didnt notice Alwanga was still playing? they dint even notice he had not showed up in the bench?? tell that to the birds

A quick literature search has taken me to 2 Kings 7: 5-7, and it addresses the confusion in the Brewkenge camp at Kasarani. My bible tells me that my God, the God of Mwakio, Ochigah, Ogango Trailer, Okoth Jabilo, Oduor12, Jasawagongo, Joe Riaga, The Villager, Kassam Mwivangano, Ingo, Jack Omollo, Erico Jarae, Jathur gi Ji, Muroro Pacho, Baba Travis and many more, caused confusion and pandemonium in the Arameans’ camp and the entire mighty Aramean army panicked and and fled in a hurry. This is exactly the same confusion that Jo-Ndhiwa unleashed in the Brewkenge camp and by Okoth Jabilo’s and Ogango Trailer’s words, there is more to come.

I like @Kibalka’s comment. Couldn’t the Tusker bench see that they were less on the bench?

Tusker knew they were cheating and wanted to cheat. they knew they had an extra player in the pitch but kept quite. it seems this is something they have done before. my worry is wether they have officials in their pockets. reason being, why did the fourth official keep quiet? The match should be replayed and tusker should be fined. so much for claims of biased officiating whenever gor is playing. what does tusker call their trick? how many times has it been used before?

  • Mwakio P

There should be no replay here at all and Tusker FC should be punished so that it become a lesson to them in future and any other team planning to do the same. This habit really kills the spirit of competition having played for over 10 minutes with twelve players. This match should be awarded to Muhoroni Youth FC by both KPL and FKL.

    In memory of Jean-Marie Seroney.

“He was also to make history as the only sitting MP (indeed deputy speaker) to be arrested within the sanctity of parliament in utter contravention of parliamentary immunity. This was after the ‘Kanu is dead’ quip by his comrade-in-arms, Joseph Martin Shikuku. The remark by Seroney that Shikuku didn’t need to substantiate the obvious irked then VP Moi and landed him (Seroney) in further hot soup.

Likewise Jack Omollo does not need to substantiate the obvious and should not be “gagged”.
Well done K’galo this league is our now we should think REGIONAL/CONTINENTAL.

  • Yesterday JO-DHIWA saved us after Jerry’s gift to Mathare. What was that?

On another note, the body language of the Tusker bench showed clearly they noticed the anomaly but wanted to take full advantage of the situation. I still believe EABL is better off sponsoring a team than owning one if they are to remain league sponsors.

How unfortunate that the Big Wild Cat succumbed to the domestic cat? Omwami Ingo I join you and the rest of then Den in licking ‘our’ wounds. This is one match Sofapaka should not have won, judging by Efusi’s current form. However, let us consider it a blessing in disguise because I am sure Sofapaka will ‘know people’; they will know what it means to deny an angry and hungry Ingwe a kill that was as good as in its mouth.

Omwami Ingo I can’t wait for that KPL clash between the two cats. Already I can hear the worms in Efusi gastrointestinal tract ‘crying’; actually ‘wailing’ to be exact’.

abt tusker’s game, the blame is on the referees.players & teams are known to try to take of advantage of a situation inorder to win e.g diving, scoring by hand, hold etc, thats y we have 4 ref’s to make the game fair as posshble.it wuld be difficult to deny tusker the 3points.4 Ingwe i blame kpl, they have failed to enforce the docking of points rule on ingwe despite causing chaos in more than 3matches jst waiting to apply the rule on GOR.afc shuld be banned frm taking part in gotv for 3yrs minimum

As for the other team members, you are just a phenomenom, just a PHENOMENOM.MKO JUU TU SANA, the defence, the mid-field,the attack, all well kneaded. GODS GOR
