A double from striker Dan Sserunkuma pushed K’ogalo’s points to 47, four adrift of second placed Tusker FC who drew 1-1 against Nairobi City Stars

Gor Mahia opened up a four point lead at the top of Kenyan Premier League table after edging out Chemelil Sugar 2-0 at City Stadium on Saturday.

A double from Ugandan striker Dan Sserunkuma pushed K’ogalo’s points to 47, four adrift second placed Tusker, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Nairobi City Stars on Friday.

It was first victory for new coach Frank Nuttall, who replaced Bobby Williamson, and the Briton is now confidence that they have what it takes to retain league crown.

“This was a comprehensive victory against a very determined side. We were on top from onset and I thank God now that I have won my first match in charge of the team.

“We will continue to take a match at a time because we still have several matches to play for and remember the league is very close to call. Every game is going to be a battle and it’s good to be on top. The journey is still long way to go and we will take each game as it comes.”

Chemelil coach Mike Mururi conceded defeat but refused to rule out his side for a maiden league title this season.

“We lost to a well organized side but that does not mean that we are out of the race. Seven or six matches to go means the league is far away from being decided.

“We will keep fighting as hard as we can to challenge for the title. I have told my players after this defeat that we are still in the race for the title and we must keep faith that we can do it.”

The sugar millers will remain fourth after defeat to Gor Mahia on 41 points, six points adrift the league leaders and champions.

Gor Mahia were the better side from onset as Sserunkuma and George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo caused all sorts of problems for Chemelil’s back four. Sserunkuma went close in opening minutes but was denied after combining well with Odhiambo.

Chemelil also had their moment of brilliance with a lovely free-kick by Murage forcing a tip save from keeper Jerim Onyango. Onyango had to produce his best to block another shot three minute later.

K’Ogalo went ahead minutes later as Sserunkuma jumped to head home from an unmarked position. Gor Mahia led 1-0 at half-time break and looked a more rejuvenated side in second half with Sserunkuma and Odhiambo leading the attacks.

Sserunkuma completed his brace in 56th minute, racing to tap home a cross from Odhiambo, who enjoyed a good afternoon. Erick Ochieng was presented with best opportunity to make it 3-0 by a pin-point cross from Patrick Oboya but his shot was too feeble to allow the keeper collect the ball.

Where is Jakoyo with his ‘ realistic ‘ doomsday predictions. Ati Gor cannot beat Chemelil and Chemelil will win the league. It seems being realistic doesn’t count for much Jakoyo. Being a Chemelil supporter your team still has a lot to play for. After all u said they are the most consistent. In other news Blackberry was a joy to watch. Haters kindly take off the gas pedal. What is wrong with. Ochieng? Or am I the only one thinking he should do better or be benched

  • Happiness, happiness, happiness. I said Kogalo will prevail and will take the league with a game to play. Give the coach time and he will do wonders with the club. Average players with 102% determination. The drought is fading away and usual Kogalo have been the best league finishers.
congratulations coach, players, TB and my fellow adoring fans.

This was my first live appearance at Kogallo’s match this season. I must say I was very impressed with the performance. Our below average players are giving thier all. I could see Frank Nuttal’s philosophy starting to take root. All the best against Bandari.
For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

A good game. Congratulations to the team. Frank Nutall should be very proud of these boys for giving another reason to celebrate as he celebrates the “No” win in the Scottish referendum.

If I were Jakoyo, I would seize this opportunity to thank the boys in a special way for scoring not only 1 but 2 goals in open play and for winning the match. Jakie, kazi kwako.

  • I think that Ochien’g played very well except that fans r not helping him do better.A player shud not be booed even if he makes a mistake. We normally strugle when Ochien’g is not in the field & those who cant c r the ones thinking that he did not play well. Am glad that Sserunkuma has gained his form at the right time. Even Black berry is recovering his form at the right time. & we r normaly gud finishers in the recent yrs. kudos team K’ogalo .TEAM OCHIEK. Fitnes levels r also @ top gear. K’ogalo Oyee!

    Attaboy Dan “Flava”. Kudos team
Wow an openly “God Fearing/thanking” coach is also another pleasant thing.
There is an urgent need to pull together and put our beloved K’galo on a sound structural & financial footing. While its good the team is pulling through despite challenges this should be corrected a.s.a.p.
GMFC was/is & hopefully will be a league/CECAFA/CAF champ (i.e GMFC is & ever will be)

Erick Ochieng is far much better player than how fans percieve him.Just see him holding the ball in matches and doesn,t give possesion that easily.Look at his passes…so accurate and efficient.Keep it up young man let those heckles not discourage you.

  • I think that this notion that our players r average shud stop bcos I believe that players coming to Gor r quality players. Its only that playing for gor is very dificult. All players who r in gor were recruted by BW & they r gud.Rem during transfer period we new that Bobby went for quality & not names.Even the ugandans in Gor r highly regarded back in their country so evn though we lost gud players the players we hv hv geld & eger to be crowned champions.keep it up boys.

The issue is not so much about winning, I am concerned and happy when we win Kogalo style. Yesterday’s game and the resulting win was the icing on the cake.
I say bravo to the progressive growth in chemistry between Danny and Black berry. It has the potential of being the most lethal striking combination if fully nurtured. Bravo Vijana. Yu are our pride.

  • now we have put mururi and the likes in their rightful positions, wow wow wow! what a game, i said it here before, since nutall came on board our strength has been defence, all that was lacking was great supplies and great finishes, but it waqs surely only a matter of time, even the most passionate hater of kogalo knew that it was only a matter of time and teams would be in huge trouble, ask chemelil and they would attest to that. the team was superb, each individual was on top of their game.surely, two more wins and we start thinking about next season and how to confirm nutall to that position of head coach, the guy plays sexy football that conforms to the standards of KOGALO and its DISCIPLES.
