Gor Mahia and Chemelil Sugar in scoreless draw

It was an inauspicious start to the 2016 KPL season as Gor Mahia were held to a scoreless draw by Chemelil Sugar at their spiritual home. It is a stark contrast to last season when Gor Mahia started the season with a bang, beating Mathare United 4-2 and quickly signalled their intentions.

K’Ogalo’s win less run in all competitions was extended to three matches after registering a drab draw against Chemelil

Gor Mahia registered a false start in their quest to retain Kenyan Premier League title after they were held to a goalless draw by Chemelil Sugar on Wednesday.

K’Ogalo came into the match without influential custodian Boniface Oluoch, who was allegedly dropped following disciplinary issues, with Jerim Onyango starting in goal for the first time since last season.

After escaping relegation by a whisker, Chemelil Sugar under coach Francis Baraza, were playing their first competitive match this season, and their rustiness was almost exposed in the second minute of the game, only for Enock Agwanda to once again show why Gor Mahia will miss Meddie Kagere and Michael Olunga, as he missed a simple tap in after Francis Kahata’s fine work.

It looked like one way traffic in the first 20 minutes or so, as the hosts were pinned in their own half by the defending champions, who tasted former Tusker custodian Samuel Odhiambo with fierce shots from George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo, and wasteful Agwanda, but the custodian made excellent saves to keep his team into the game.

Gor Mahia thought they had scored in the half hour mark after Odhiambo effort was cleared off the line by David Ojwang’ with the visitors protesting claiming it had crossed the line. By the time the halftime whistle was blown, frustration on faces of the traveling fans was obvious as their team failed to break the dead lock.

The second half was more or the same as the previous one with Gor Mahia remaining wasteful in front of the goal, with Kahata displaying his brilliance with pinpoint passes which were not finished by strikers.

Not even the introduction of Jacob Keli later on in place of Agwanda in the 72nd minute could change the outcome of the game.

Gor seems to be struggling with some inner issues. There’s is thorn in the flesh right from the playing unit, the TB & the EC of which might make the team not win KPL this year.Radical surgery is urgently neeeded.

Yes..there are serious problems mostly at the TB. But time will tell. As it is rumours will never cease to be part of GM FC.

Though if the rumours happen to be true..then we are definitely going the Chelsea way this season as the issues are surprisingly identical to the CFC.

Ooh Laa la….! “K’OGALO is slowly showing Syndromes of lack of self belief as things fall apart”

At this moment fans should expect draws as the BEST result that this team can achieve.while losses should become a normality as of now until we sort out all the pending but teething issue’s in-house.

    1. Unfocused, vision-less, bloated and confused EC that is clinging in the office after official expiry of their term limit.
    2. Suspicious sponsorship deal whose term of engagement, financial obligation and scope of cover is unclear.
    3. Divided Technical Bench and mediocre playing unit that has no self-control or discipline within the
    dressing room.
    4. Over-demanding, overzealous, goons and extremely confused fanatical base that can not accept the reality of the above mentioned issue’s at stake

Just don’t understand how somebody believes that looking at the starting eleven with blackberry ati we expect to score goals….blackberry is out of form, omino scores once in a blue moon and agenda relies on good supplies and is still learning his trade.

There is some madness that has creeped this club this year or may be it is me who is mad!

Gor has simply drawn. What is the problem?
Given the involving season last year, the team was certainly going to tire. As much as Nuttal is a fitness coach, Kenya players are yet to incoporate discipline in their lives. Let the boyz pick up in peace. Which rules are these that Gor must win everything? Can some of you guyz explain to the rest of us.
@Mwivangano even asks questions based on rumours… then predicts a downfall!!!

I fail to understand our fans/bloggers. Gor drew and we want to bring the roof down. Like Gor should just win and win and win. How about the other teams. Am not worried about anythong ’cause I know we jave a better squad than last year. Soon we will start winning and everybody will be happy. For those who cannot stomach negative results remain at home

  • Why are some people so hopeless even when they have not watched any match. Gor Mahia outplayed and out thought Chemelil though luck was not on our side. So shut up if you don’t know your team and your football.

The attack is blunt. Fans are disappointed because last year we were spoiled by Abondo, Kagere and Olunga who are calm and poised in front of goal and sharp as a blade. Be ready for a season of struggling to score goals. There may be many 0-0 and 1-0 games. This is when we find out what Nuttall is made of

Stop bad mouthing the team. This kind of result is normal in football. Teams play to WIN,LOSE OR DRAW. Lets wake up, face reality and realize that what we had last year is not a thing you can repeat so easily. The sooner we do that the better. Otherwise as someone said here when you are in a hole, do not keep on digging. The team is playing well if you ask me, except against CNAPS. Lets not be snoopy snoops , always looking for the bad things only. Are we saying there is nothing good at all going on or that has been done? Wacheni hii upusi. Jakoyo wacha, toka hapo; Ogango toka hapo; Joods whoever you are what is it about the coach’s pay? This coach Nuttal is seriously underpaid. Come for my neck, anyone willing?

  • guys plz stop this stupidity of winning always . in Adhula teams play to win but there is also Draw and a lose which is why people have coaches to turn draws and loses to wins and any seriouse fan who understands football and might have played it in form of Ajwala Nyadala should show some understanding of a draw and loss . we dont want this Bhangi being smoked by majority of Gor mahia Fans even infront of police and former prime Minister to be displayed in this site anymore. Team will pick let us not victimise the players and EC becoz i remember we have had b4 bigger problems than this in Gor and we managed to solve them why not now?

At times I wonder if some bloggers on this wall understand what football is all about. At least @Jakorando and @jathur gi ji have said what we should always know. That we will not win always. Last year with Olunga and Kagere, Nakuru Allstars was almost beating us having scored an own goal in the 1 -1 draw and that shows us that everything is possible. Once we stop exerting unnecessary pressure on the team the results will start coming in.
We will not replicate last years’ results. Please KEEP that in your minds. Even the Coach has said that and so who are we to expert otherwise. For those with ‘weak’ hearts or cannot take any other results please take a break or give us a break since this year we will have a mixture of results but that will not stop us from winning the league. I am that optimistic. Even in EPL the big boys are struggling and that’s why Leicester is leading.

REm this is the person who manages what gives us happiness at a time we are under stress from gov as a community and as kenyans why cant we pay this person dearly. @Jakorando, Teargas went for trials in SA with Ajax. Unfortunately I hear that he was not happy the way his contract talks were going on. To make it worse he is gone for trials when the SA window is already closed and Ajax have said that they are done with their recruitment this year. A Gor official even alluded that he went off without permission. We need serious officials each with a given task. As it is anybody does anything

  • fans are an impatient lot , you loose 3 strikers and expect the team to be performing like last year , even last year it took three months for players to gel , give the team more time to gel , next season try and maintain your best players.

  • Some fans are so thick, that I don’t even know why they are watching soccer. They don’t understand football ethics at all, modern football is so dynamic that if you don’t have any clue then you will resort to `kidi` as one stupid blogger is alleging. Their thickhead is beyond redemptions….

GM being the defending champs, most clubs will formulate archaic plans to frustrate them maybe by defending deep, or going physical just not to loose or even to earn a draw. So things are not going to be easy for GM considering also having lost their best strikers….and for those fans who thinks that a win is only associated with Gor,.. and Gor is meant to win everything, please stay away

@ Dan original, sounds like Abondo never renewed his contract and left out of frustrations so technically he is not a gor mahia player.

Of course if GM cannot score goals then fans can forget about any miracles happening in Madagascar. I’m not demoralized about the draw.

I for one refuse to pretend that all is well. The team has played 5 games and scored three goals only, some of which were penalties. Maybe people will wake up when the league has reached the halfway point and GM is 5th in the standings.

I do not want to be hysterical. But I do not want to pretend as if there is no problem. Lets desist from insults but lets call a spade a spade. There is no firepower. I hope it is a problem Nuttall can fix but he needs support of the EC, some of whom are fighting him.

One issue that will need to change is the strategy of using wingers to send high crosses. Last year Olunga and Kagere were there. These are tall players who can use crosses from Nizigiyiman

. Nuttall now needs to adapt a new strategy that plays to the strengths of Kahata and Agwanda. Whereas last year, many of the attacks utilized Nizigiyimana, Nuttall may need to utilize kahata more in an attacking formation. Which means Kahata and Agwanda need to work more closer in training to gell. Nuttall can fix this if he is supported.
