Gor Mahia arrive in Tunis

The first batch of Gor Mahia players arrived in Tunis on Thursday , ready to do battle with Esperance in the second leg of the Africa Champions league.

Deputy secretary general Anima Oketch expressed appreciation at the good reception accorded to Gor Mahia by the hosts.

“This was beyond our expectations and the hosts have done a wonderful job in receiving us. They promised to handle us well and indeed they kept their word. They have helped in Visa clearance; gave us the best means of transport, the smooth transition of process after process with their help and to our surprise, to be booked in the best hotel here in Tunisia,” Anima said to the Standard.

The rest of the contingent will arrive on Friday. They include Geoffrey Kizito, Dan Sserunkuma, Anthony Akumu, Timonah Wanyonyi, Musa Mohamed and David Owino.

Joy Riders

Questions have been raised as to why Gor Mahia are sending a bloated delegation of 33 individuals of whom 13 are officials most of whom have no business travelling to Tunisia. The tickets alone cost Ksh 100,000. This at a time when Gor Mahia are having difficulty funding their Africa cup campaign.

When contacted, club chairman Ambrose Rachier said he understands the fans’ concerns, especially with regard to the four extra officials the club is supposed to pay for. Rachier is one of the officials who will pay their own bills while away in Tunis. The others are David Kilo and Frank Wasuna. “The fans are right in questioning such expenditure considering it will cost us Sh100,000 per person in air fare alone,” he explained.
Rachier said the club is obligated to pay the expenses of 25 people who include 18 players, five members of the technical bench, one head of delegation and another club official who has been representing them in pre-match meetings. “When we travelled to Gabon, the executive agreed that the four officials who went should give room for others to travel to Tunisia. However, in the event that they still wanted to go then they should pay for themselves. “I admit that the current situation – where we have to carry four officials – is debatable and we should ask ourselves whether it is right to burden the club with the expense,” he said to the Standard

  • Rachier, David okilo and frank wasuna no need to join gor Mahia in the trip. Come up with policy to curb this menace. Secondly, modern day football , players and technical bench do not fly on the same flight, just a precaution in case of ‘god forbid’ a natural calamity.

thirdly, In as much as we are made to believe that they will foot their own bills, this is gor Mahia, you will never know who is saying the truth unless off course we have independent auditors……….

Lastly, as for the match good luck boys, Tunisians are yet to loose at home ! If you pull this one off , trust me and trust the blogging community, we shall organize one big party players will live to remember not forgetting the cash and goodies that will come their way.

Now listen to the joy-riders talking. Don’t get blinded by the warm reception and good hospitality. Maintain your focus. Keep your eyes on the ball. We have sent you to Tunis to do only two things:
    1. Beat Esperance with at least 5 goals.
    2. Qualify for the next level of the championship.
Don’t tell us about hotels. Jakoyo. Okoth Jabilo, Dinga, Mwakio, JB, Eblazing Diva, Eric, etc, have slept in better hotels than the one you are so excited about. Just cut the excitement and stick to the principal objective, goal and target. A hotel that has no lawn; concrete slabs everywhere, bure kabisa.

  • I have been away in Paris and it is our prayer as fans of Kogalo for the team to come back home with victory.

I am just wondering whether an official will be required in pre-match meeting when we are having team manager. This does not make sense at all.

  • @Barefoot Bandit and Ogango Trailer, we need to come up with suggestions on how the club can maximize on the gate collections. We all need to support the measures which are being implemented by the General Secretary and Treasurer in locking out the looters that have a grand plan of steal the club scarce resources. Both Kilo and Ngala in the executive committee have been fighting these proposals to extend of colluding with the chairman. This impunity of rampart stealing must be stopped.

These official should see some sense that players’ welfare come first. Fans troupe to the stadium to watch players playing but not selfish officials.

@ISAACK OCHIENG it does not matter anybody can stand in between the sticks as long as “Calabar” remains the last axis of the defense line.. Period…!!! Let Esperance Bring it On.
