Gor Mahia recorded an impressive 1-0 over Sudanese giants Al-Hilal. The match was played in the city of Port Sudan by the red sea on Thursday evening.

Al Hilal fielded a full strength side including Camerounian Maxime Loïc Feudjou in goal, abdullatif bo, and songs abeiku amar damazin and abu sane Senegalese defender Souleymane Cissé. The central defence had Ghanaian Nelson Nizar Hamid in midfield was Nasreddin worker and the attack had Kennedy Ishii ” Walid Aladdin and Cheick Moukoro from Cote’d Ivoire.

Al Hilal controlled the early proceedings but their attacks were easily neutralized by Harun Shakava and Musa Mohamed in central defence.

The all important goal was scored by Enock Agwanda who picked up a cross from Eric Ouma and finished with a neat back header in 47th minute. Collins Okoth had done most of the spadework.

That goal seemed to demoralize Hilal who showed very little threats from then on.

Keeper Boniface Oluoch denied Al Hilal a chance to equalize when he saved a penalty in the 77th minute.

If anyone had any doubts that Gor Mahia are ready for this season’s Africa champions league then those doubts ought to be put aside now. Al Hilal are a giant side. They have won the Sudanese league a record 28 times. They have reached the group stage of the Africa champions league 6 times in the last 10 years and reached the semi-finals four times in the last 10 years.

Beating St George away from home then beating Al Hilal away from home is no easy feat. Especially considering that Gor Mahia are missing several key players. It also shows that the away form that made Gor Mahia formidable in Africa decades ago is coming back.

It also shows the progress Gor Mahia have made in closing the gap on Sudanese sides. In 2010, Gor Mahia lost 1-3 to El Merreikh in Nairobi. A year earlier they had lost 5-0 to the same outfit.

  • “If anyone had any doubts that Gor Mahia are ready for this season’s Africa champions league then those doubts ought to be put aside now” this sounds abit silly. No offence or disrespect meant to Admin but you cannot read too much simply coz Gor has won one match. I think this match is a good indication that the ‘local’ Gor is probably getting capable of holding it’s own. As match as I like and encourage the input that the foreign brigade has brought to Gor one great indication that all this showed is that the local challenge had become ‘petty’ to say the least. Look at the Kenya challenge in Chan, Africa Nations and world cup. My say remains the same, it is up to Gor to lead in Kenya football, Harambee stars forgot what it’s role is in this world a long time ago.
I encourage the foreign talent to be increased instead of limiting them to five.
Harambee stars is getting nowhere so forget about them attracting any serious team for a friendly. Adding more Auchos into the KPL league results to the local lads playn the foreign legion every other day hence rapid improvement.
It is probably coz of the foreign talent that the local guys are now pulling up their socks.. maybe one day we will see the likes of Aucho et Walusimbi being forced to sit on the bench as a result.

I don’t know how true the rumours are.I heard in a vernacular radio station, this morning, that Shakava is on of the players joining Homeboyz. He has done his part for Gor anyway and we all grateful. As of last week he had not pledged his future for Gor.On the win against Al Hilal I can only thank the boys for a job well done.Great feeling of invincibility.

You can’t graduate from a university and to a village polytechnic. This will have serious impact on Shakava as a player. His position in Harambee Stars will too be affected. There is no growth.

I think the problem with most of our foreign legion is that they are using Gor to launch their careers. No problem about that. Soon we will get those whose hearts are in Gor. Sanneh of City Stars has refused to join moneybags Posta Rangers with the belief that if any of the foreigners don’t resume then he takes that chance in Gor. And Rangers officials reply was that ‘who wouldn’t want to paly for Gor’. As much as these players are good and deserve to be paid their dues the club will still continue without them. Unfortunately no other club locally will give them the exposure Gor gives

Happy new year everybody. While I was away Kagere and Olunga left, Aucho is itching, Walusimbi nowhere, Nzigiyimana not talking, Sibomana nod heard of, Tuyisenge is not scoring for Rwanda in Chan, Wafula continues without a passport, Sanneh Ebrimah is not signed when he should have been signed, no Eric Johana, no cheche and Shakava wants to leave. The only good news I found was that Keli and Kahata came in and one Eric Ouma and Ochieng in goal. CAF registrations closed, and so we cannot add any other name. We have won the league sevaral times in a row, its time we stepped aside for the likes of Bandari and Ulinzi to try their luck, thats the only comfort.

FINALLY MR SPONSOR MR SPONSOR WHERE ARE YOU? We are hare at Kogalo, please come on.

Guys, Olunga was never contracted to Gor but everywhere he goes he thanks all the Gor fraternity for what they did for him. Danny gave us the cold shoulder and struggled to get a team to treat him like Gor. Kagere left and now we have Tuyisenge. It means there is no shortage of those who want to play for us despite our inadequacies.

  • Gor Mahia is obsessed with signing foreigners. This issue of signing Tuyisenga for four million. What can Tuyisenga do that Meshack Karani or Joshua Oyoo or Kevin Amwayi or even Erick Johanna cannot do? We watch KPL League every week be it live in stadium or on sofa set. We are also watching Tuyisenga playing CAF. I have come to the conclusion that we are obsessed by foreigners up to the point that we neglect our locals.
