Defending champions Gor Mahia on Thursday returned to the summit of the Kenyan Premier League table after thrashing Zoo Kericho 4-2 in their rescheduled tie at the Kericho Green Stadium.

The record 16-time champions, who brushed aside Nakumatt 4-0 in their league season opener before easing past Leones Vegetarinos of Equatorial Guinea 2-0 in the first leg of their Caf Champions League tie last weekend, went up 1-0 through Rwandan star Jacques Tuyisenge on the 35 minutes before Boniface Omondi added a second after the break.

Zoo Kericho skipper Johnson Ligare halved the deficit with a thumping header in the 68th minute before Joachim Oluoch pounced onto a rebound to score the third in the 70th minute and three minutes later, substitute Samuel Onyango slotted home after goalkeeper Martin Elungat failed to hold onto Meddie Kagere’s shot. Striker Nicholas Kipkirui scored his second goal of the season and Zoo’s second in the 75th minute but the record champions had done enough to claim maximum points.

The win saw Gor, turning half a century on Friday, go top on six points similar to Mathare United thanks to a superior goal difference.

Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr handed former Tusker midfielder Cercidy Okeyo, Joachim Oluoch and Bernard Ondiek their first starts of the season with the likes of Francis Kahata, George Odhiambo and Humphrey Mieno all missing from the starting line-up with the Englishman keen on their Caf Champions League return leg match against Vegetarinos away in Malabo next week.

  1. After my criticism of Kerr tactical lacklustre and rigidity…………fantastic to see the coach toying with a whole new tactical formation 3-5-2 , the 3 tall defenders at the back – oluoch, shakava and momanyi were nervous, erratic at a times but could have done much better with set pieces .

Central midfield of ondiek and cercidy created numerous chances but ondyek could have easily scored hatrick by halftime.

3-5-2 has prooved it can deliver very devastating results…me think we could easily have scored 8 goals in the game with glaring/point blank misses from ondyek, kagere , omondi and injury to jausenge . indeed, Zoo kericho must count themselves extremely lucky ! wish to see more of tactical flexibility from the coach in 2018 as we have the depth in squad to handle all situations.

Back to the elephant in the room, let us all turn up for the proposed harambee, the fate of the trip to equitorial guinea hangs in the balance as at last evening , EC was still running up and down to mobilise a balance estimated to be in the region of kshs 4.8 million.

  2. Thanks boys & tb for punishing them thoroughly like i asked.I wanted 5 goals but will settle for 4.Mike Madoya is nondescript & amorphous as all pundits observed rendering those awards he got all Mediocre

  3. Kudos to the boys for a great win!
Sad to hear on radio that a minibus ferrying Kogalo fans back to Kisumu was attacked and fans injured at Kapsoit!

in victory and joy, in defeat and agony, Kogalo for ever!

    1. So sad @Eric but dont be suprised to hear that it was our fans who provoked the locals most likely with politically-laced taunts!!! I have travelled with them enough to know.

  4. Ni kuNOMAH, kama hawo ndio fringe players(2nd eleven).Initially I thot Phil was the one to be elbowed easily to the bench in that mid, bt I could be wrong after today’s performance, Nazi iko kwa lumush though I think he is being played in unfamiliar position. Gud game ondieki(play similar to miguna’s),like the appearance of our defence so intimidating na hizo heights.Keeper I think could do well if he can claim all the balls within 6 area, 2nd goal for zoo was a weak goal to concede.Coach should work on winning with entertaining football, the players are there, mambo ya kublame kiwanja tupunguze, kogalo should train next to Toyoyo kiwanja ya mchanga, makes no sense training kwa pitch poa and then playing our games in pitches like the one next to toyoyo.Kudos to the Team for the win, bt ningekuwa lineman hizo bao 3 jack, boni na oluoch ni ngeinua offside roho safi, na kuhope “kidi” Haita nilandia

  5. I was impressed nost by Ondiek. Cersidy needs to work harder since that midfield is packed with talent. Today he put in a lacklustre perfomance same to the Nakumatt game. The coach seems to believe in him even more than the ever effective Philemon. He needs to repay that faith. Finally Ondhonji needs to learn the art of clean sheets from Peter and Bonny!!

    1. Ondieki is superb,i fell in love with hus game, omora matek. But my nan Guikan didnt feature though i believe it wud have been a good game for him to start.Team iko sawa onguso, man of the match Boniface Omondi aka Tony Nyadundo,Joachim Oluoch who even scored were all superb today.Philemon was amazing as always, team ber,Sportpesa return our sponsorship as jaluo oksechi we dont enjoy fundraising though we shall contribute heartily 2moro as K’ogalo is our beloved

  6. Congrats to the team.I think this could be the best outfit Kigali has assembled in a long time.I believe if the Sponsorship issue is sorted out then Kogalo will sweep all the domestic trophies. My plea to fans who have vowed not to attend Gor Matches unless we make a mark in the Continental is that we should borrow a leaf from European teams.Attendance at mid table team matches is always excellent(full house)despite the teams being just”the also runs).please let us support the team fully.

  7. The good thing about this game is that we gave a chance to those who have not played in the first 3 games. That is a good sign that we have depth. The only challenge we now have is the issue of sponsorship/funds. If that is sorted out then I don’t see who will stop us. Might be too early for ‘unbeaten’ run talk but let’s support our team.
On the hooliganism witnessed in Kericho I hope our fans will let God ‘revenge’ for them. We have been there and we all know what it caused us.
On the Harambee why not also have a digital platform for those who cannot attend personally?

  8. The coach is trying different formations and this will depend on the players and the opponent….generally the first half was not exciting as the second half, the pep talk did the trick. All the same, congratulations to the team, please avoid conceeding goals.

  9. BREAKING…Gor Mahia advance travel team to Malabo fails to travel. Gor Mahia’s chief executive officer Lordvick Aduda said the team is stranded ahead of their second leg clash away to Equatorial Guinea’s champions Leones Vegetarianos “We need additional Sh10 million to take the team to Malabo. I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said Aduda.

The treasury is mum and the proposed harambee chaired by governor cyprian awitti has gone silent. Should we abort the trip ? let me get your views

    1. The govt has already bought air tickets for both Gor and Ingwe. @jakoyo you seem so eager to spread gloom that you dont check your facts. You can do both with great success. Give us our daily dose of looming disaster but verify first!!

  10. @musymo, you know as well as we all do….news is never permanent it changes all the time depending on the time of reporting.

Glad to hear finally somebody has acted..perhaps that is the reason why we need to make noise in the first place , so that people can act.

As for spreading doom and gloom, those are your words not mine!
