Gor Mahia blank Mathare 2-0

Gor Mahia continued their ascent to the top of the standings when they beat Mathare United 2-0, in what is their most impressive performance since the arrival of coach Ze Maria. The goals came via Walusimbi and Tuyisenge. Additional reporting from Capital FM

The result now sees the 15-time record champions dispose Mathare at second spot, with the two tied on 26 points but K’Ogalo have a better goal difference.

Despite the first half lacking any shot on target, it was a great display of tactical and technical prowess between the two sides, Dutch football fighting its way against the rather flamboyant and flowery Brazilian Samba style.

Gor were mostly using the right channel in their attack with coach Jose ‘Ze Maria’ Marcelo eager to use the pace of Innocent Wafula and crossing ability of Karim Nizigiyimana.

The duo played one-two short passes on the flank in the sixth minute but Wafula’s eventual cross was few inches higher than Jacques Tuyisenge’s height with the Rwandese forward rising in futility to connect the cross.

Three minutes later, Wafula powered on the right again before putting in a low cross but George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo arrived in the box few seconds late.

Mathare had sat back to absorb the fast pressure applied by Gor and the biggest weapon they used to ensure their keeper remained untested was their fast pressing whenever Gor were in possession.

Francis Kimanzi’s side had their first attempt in the 17th minute when Eric Johannah weaved his way from the left to get himself in a good shooting range, but couldn’t get the right technique to test Boniface Oluoch with the ball flying acres wide.

Walusimbi caused problems for Mathare in the 21st minute, striking in a powerful freekick from the left finding Wafula isolated at the far post, but the latter’s first touch was too heavy allowing Robinson Kamura to hack it away to safety.

Mathare slowly grew into the game, passing the ball well from the back but failed to get anything at the final third despite Gor skipper Musa Mohammed showing some few nervy instances with weak defending.

The defending champions came close to winding the half a goal up but Wafula’s freekick from 30 yards out flew a few over.

With both sides going into the break goalless, the second half was always set to be an explosive affair.

Kimanzi threw in the first dice, taking off Crispin Oduor for Alphonce Ndonye as he sought a more attacking minded display.

Gor kept their attacking mantra and they did not wait long to get ahead.

Ugandan Walusimbi struck a beauty of a curler in the 68th minute after being accorded time and space by the Mathare backline to leave keeper Peter Odhiambo only watching helplessly as the ball found its way into the top right corner.

Mathare had no option but to put up an attacking front and Kimanzi made another change bringing in his top scorer Obadiah Ndege for midfielder Edward Seda.

He then threw caution into the wind, pulling off right back Noah Abich for striker Harrison Mwenda but the change did more harm than good.

Seven minutes to go, the impressive Erick Ouma burst through the right side of Mathare’s defense before putting in an enticing cross which Tuyisenge headed home powerfully to all but secure the three points for Gor.

Despite pulling their weight together in attack, Mathare could not find a way past Gor custodian Boniface Oluoch.

    • I like. I like.Big Up team & yes Ze Maria led TB. Taking nothing away from the great K’galo legend Sir JBO, a gentleman i most admire and respect, his current team is plagued with woes similar to K’galo’s last year (delayed salaries & lack of a sponsor) but see the difference in league standings of his teams then and now. Last year he kept his charges motivated and performing. Of twas only fans nothing to do with a certain so called “politician” who took off like a “theif”. Ze Maria I pray that under your guidance GM not only emulates but surpasses the achievements of the “politician”.

  • Wonderful curved strike by Waluwalu ‘simbi nyaima’. Can’t forget how ‘Marcelo Ouma dribbled past Noah Five and left him lagging on the ground. That look on Francis Kidem’s eyes after the match.. The man was dead walking. That Cool, Calm and Composed look on Ze Maria… The Man is sure of Winning the League. That Football display by the Mighty Mahono… More and More Samba Things are on the way. Otherwise high abich to ingo and ingwe.

  • And by the way, how are our “quiet” neighbors AFC Leopards faring after winning the League on Sunday 6th March 2016? Anyway I hope they draw with Brewkenges (since that is the best result they can get when playing against the drunk men) as The Mighty Mahono Sambarize the sijui 2009 champions sofapanya. By the end of Wednesday, each and everyone will be where they ought to be, except for our “quiet” neighbours who still HAVE to fire their coach.

    • Andre Ocool, you have made my day by opining that ingwe can only draw against a drunk team. i watched tusker game against sofapanya then wondered why we lost to them.

    • Ja’Asego, just to put things in perspective “hiyo paka” beat Gor by design by our very own. That was during the “era of sabotage” which started during the semi defeat in the Gotv Cup until the powers that be ensured that the “politician” had be edged out. That’s how painfully low “we” stooped (VERY VERY UNFORTUNATE) but its all water under the bridge, give us your technical analysis. I have already enjoyed Kpl Tatic’s.

  • Leave Ingwe alone. They have problems at the moment I hope they will bounce back after mid-season transfers. I enjoy this league more when both Kogalo and Ingwe are at their best. It spices the league. What a beauty of a goal from Walusimbi. Such goals are rare in Kpl. Congrats boys. Glory Be to God for the victory

  • Ouma is a wonderful player, yes, his contract is expiring. However he only wants a six month contact. How can Gor keep on building players and let them go when we need them? The TB should go for 2 year contract or more so that we don’t have to build a team every 6 months….we want continuity. Lets not start from zero at the end of the legue again

  • Marcelo is saying that he can only sign a short term contract and throws in the hint that he is wanted by AFC and will decide based on what Gor offers. I wish whoever advises him do not let him get too big for himself. Why would he insist on six month deals? He is young and needs to develop, that needs some time and in my opinion Gor is the best place for that.

Good game as always & I believe that all teams fear Gor mahia not bcos of fans but bcos of quality of players in all departments including the bench. we have kenya one, best defenders, best midfielders, best ofensive players, best TB, best players on the bench &also best EC.And also Gor players earn gud salariesas compared to their counterparts. The only problem we have is bad agents of our players.like now Erick ouma says that he cannot sign long term contract bcos of personal reasons .

I believe Marcelo will be in Gor till the end of the year, at least. I hope the agent doesn’t bungle the young boy’s career. If we can get Johanna and Baron (whose dad I hear is pushing his joining Gor) plus one central striker ( either Kagere or Ochomo) to assist Ja Usenge then we will be set to go. Unfortunately we will have to sacrifice some players. So sad but that is life. I hear the coach has also identified an offensive midfielder from Brazil who might come for trials.

  • my oponion may differ wd some of u here though we won the game but there is still lack of compartibility btwn our strikers, then 2dai were not up to the mark, we played blind passes we were loosing balls easily, othewse the boyz are good en gudos.

  • when Marcelo Ouma’s image and praise was being splashed on Gor Mahia fb page I read one Person saying ‘mtafurisha kichwa’ and another reply that ‘he is good and you can’t avoid to praise’.I feel he should stay 2yrs but I know his agent will want quick money.Let’s compare Farouk Miya’s career and look at the club he went to;straight from Uganda ;no detours to akina Finland,Sweden etc.Its also possible for Ouma.

  • Has much as Maecelo is gud player for me a m worried he will not be kogalo’s player and will follow the suit of ocs and the rest he is young and the issue of short contract is not attainable the tb should look wide for repelacement or or kogalo should not let our left back siboumana leave the young player confessing about afc is worrrying the team has been in the same situation and we have lost players the same way jst my opinion a player whose heart is some where is good to let him go cause eventually he will leave on short term contracts is a recipe of instability to the club so the tb should be very cautious on the deal

    Reply
    • Some Kogalo fans may not agree with me on this but if Marcelo is adamant on six months contract, I would release him to go where his heart is if I were the TB. Football is business. Let Kogalo have serious long term contracts with players, whereby in case a player insists on leaving before his contract expires, then the club has to be compensated. In my opinion, Gor Mahia is the best club to expose and market Marcelo. He should be patient for this season and next season. Six months contract basically means that Kogalo with release such a good player and get nothing out of it. I do not think this should be allowed to happen. We still have Siboumana to take care of the left full back position. My opinion though.

  • We won through direct football.good result but not the game.Kindly let lets focus on our technical football it’s the most important thing now.I shift my focus on Kagan cup.we are past SPL.I urge our beloved EC,kindly don’t let our fullback left in the hands of this young star.GM is not and should not be an academy for their teams.let him sign atleast 2ur contract or just let him follow his heart.Maintain our Sibomana as a precaution but all the decision are on the hands of the mighty TH.All what I need is result.

Gor Mahia is playing the best football currently in the country and the team has become an envy to many coaches. This time I am not seeing excuses that Gor Mahia was helped by the referees.

Bloggers that are complaining, were you watching. Different game that we were watching. Shame on you all with direct football comments.

  • Ze Maria still insists that this is a team in the making. The speed at which these guys are playing and the hunger to win the game is remarkable. There is already a feeling that the players are enjoying themselves. This has been spread out to the fans, oh my, the expectation on our faces does not go without notice. We are watching very good football and no wonder the beautiful goals. This is an opportunity to encourage others to come to the field to watch K’Ogallo for their enjoyment. This is a beautiful sport that can be used to build a good strong financial base for the good of the club and the game. Let us therefore hit the iron on the head while it is still hot.Back to Ze Maria, if this is just the process, what about when it is finally formed? I am sure the coaches in the league are going back to the drawing board and asking themselves,”what is football?

  • Who advises these players sometimes. Masika Gatussso blackberry Kevin Omondi etc and even Olunga were all misadvised. Imagine the Olunga had done one more season under ze Maria? So let’s advise Marcelo to be patient and learn. Money will come. Otherwise, ship him out and return that position to sibomana

  • Lucky for you guys,I am here and also as a well versed EC member, the pro-active one at that too.I want to let you know the reason we are having problems with Marcello is because his Agent is one Nicholas Muyoti, the current Afc assistant coach…The fact stems from him having schooled @ kakamega high school wea muyoti coaxed him into letting him sign a contract with him as the agent. We now are negotiating with muyoti who keeps saying he can go to ingwe though we all know how that would end up.Make no mistake though by thinking he’s abandu…the boy is pure luo from Awasi/Kano but ended up in the wrong hands of an Efusi manager. We will talk to his parents snc he shud know better than to follow a route that has ruined many a career b4 him

Thank you Ja’Asego for enlightening us. Tell Muyoti to take Passenger 27 for free and leave our boy alone. If he is adamant then we should hire lawyers to un-negotiate his deal with Muyoti. …..Mmmmmh perhaps Marcelo can enter a plea that Muyoti took advantage of him at a time when he was minor and he did not really understand the contract well. ….or that Muyoti used intimidation and threats.

  • Some of us here have too much pride. My friend joods if gor is above SPL, then which league do you suggest they play in? Is this not too much, my brother??!! For being a Kenyan team belongs to a Kenyan league. And whether or not you like this, gor mahia did not play anything called direct football unless you don’t know the game! They played spectacular and most pure football. You must also know that how your oppont plays determine how you do it….for example, if they play disjointed football that might affect how you do it. Give credit where it is due my friend!!!!
