Gor Mahia blank Tusker 2-0

Two first half goals were enough to give Gor Mahia yet another important win. This time over Tusker. The win sees Kogalo 7 points clear at the top of the standings.

Additional reporting from the Nation

Tuyisenge tapped in the opener from close range Kenneth Muguna’s cross from the right flank on 16 minutes before the former Western Stima midfielder turned provider again for Samuel Onyango’s goal on 32 minutes.

Muguna combined well with Francis Kahata before the former found his way to the box. Muguna then released a cut back that Onyango attempted to score from but Tusker goalkeeper Robert Mboya parried the ball into his way before he calmly smashed into an empty net Gor’s second and eventually their 15th victory in 34 meetings against the brewers.

Tusker’s seventh loss this term leaves them on 38 points from 25 games with coach Robert Matano left with home work to do ahead of visiting on form Kakamega Homeboyz on Wednesday.

Mboya was the busiest of the two custodians in the first half. The former Kariobangi Sharks and Mathare United shot-stopper was forced to a brilliant save from Samuel Onyango’s corner on 22 minutes.

Three minutes later, Nicholas Kipkirui neatly fed Kahata with a lobbed pass from the left flank but the latter’s low strike was deflected off by Tusker defender Justine Omary for a fruitless corner.

Tusker came close on few occasions through Timothy Otieno and Omary but both their efforts were thwarted off by Gor’s green shirts in defence.

Boniface Muchiri forced Gor custodian Shaban Odhoji into a finger tip save from a free-kick on 39 minutes after Muguna had fouled Timothy Otieno 25 yards out.

Tuyisenge cleared off the line Muchiri’s corner kick on 50 minutes after Philemon Otieno had sent out the ball under pressure from Tusker.

Timothy Otieno thought he had reduced the deficit at the hour mark but it was rightfully ruled offside by second assistant referee Stephen Adeya. Otieno had headed home Jackson Macharia’s pass from the middle of the pack after the ball deflected off Joash Onyango.

Gor coach Hassan Oktay handed Ugandan midfielder Hashim Sempala a cameo appearance in midfield against his former employers on 64 minutes, replacing the tired Ernest Wendo.

Substitute Dennis Oliech and Tuyisenge had scoring chances deep in the second half but Mboya came to the rescue.

Gor visit Ulinzi Stars in Nakuru on Monday before playing KCB on Thursday in Machakos.

@Odhis Muga, what do you bloggers want? Bloggers are always complaining mara hii mara that. When will will we think of the bigger picture? We need to appreciate and encourage our players. Muguna was involved in the build up to goals and provided passes/assists for the goals that were eventually scored by both Tuyisenge and Onyango.

Sometimes in football you have to win ugly. YGor played well in the first half and we need to thank the Almighty God for the victory.

I did not watch the match, but I am happy that we silenced Brewkenge comprehensively. Congratulations boys for doing something with that ball in the final third. I still remember the injustices Brewkenge subjected us to in 2016.

Seven neat passes leading to the first goal! That’s the kind of football we want to see in Kogallo. Congrats boys, and TB.

    My observations;
    – We seemed to have lifted our foot off the accelerator in the second half allowing them to dominate. That was dangerous. We are lucky Odhonji was alert.
    – Just like @Musymo said one time, Samuel Onyi is a good player but his big problem is being consistently inconsistence. One game he’s hot, the other he’s cold. Today he was hot.
    – Oliech needs to be given more game time to build match fitness. He seems to still be having something to offer. The coach knows better though.
    – I read elsewhere just before the match an official claiming on social media that the coach hasn’t been paid for two months. If that post was really from her (not a hacked account),. was it meant to demoralize the team before kick off? Why just before the match? Why on social media? Whatever happened to collective responsibility!

Players are tired and fatigued after playing many games within a period of 48 hours which is really uncalled. Players are human beings not robots. Many matches are confirms that both FKF and KPL wanted Gor Mahia to lose the momentum but they have lost the plot.

With the packed back to back fixtures, let us continue to support our players to successfully defend the KPL title.

The game was perfect and if tusker can lose to Gor mahia fc like timu ndogo, then ulinzi this time will know people. They were rescued by that stupid idiot referee and this time,we,shall put them to the sword, where they belong. The only player who I was pleased to have been signed have proved his worth and he has demonstrated that indeed he is the best. Am talking about muguna,my man of the match always. He was key to the performance exhibited today. He set up both goals his movements are perfect.
Down memory Lane, muguna joined Gor mahia on the same year with kahata in 2016 transfer window having just been named most valuable player in the 2015 season. With ze’maria,Keen to build a team that plays good football, muguna thrived well and was a regular creative midfielder who dictated the pace and direction the match takes. He’s quality and those who think that by the end of the season Gor might lose good players will be shocked when k’ogalo will be very strong. Am also humbled by odhoji who have also proved that he can be a good goalkeeper. I can also see that oktay have now decided to give us what he’s made of. Those who believed that he he’s not good enough have gone into hiding. Team achiek.I think that next season we will be better than this season because the kind the game I watched today is a new k’ogalo. A new k’ogalo where players play freely. Matanos tactics were suspended by oktay. I also like the attitude of the coach. He always want to win and the spirit of k’ogalo runs in him. He defends k’ogalo like a fan.

@ Moses, Abbas Magongo Zamalek was not a tall player and thrived very well. The few minutes Sempala was in the field, he showed some signs of fitting in well in the squad once he settles.
Otherwise Oktay Philosophy is working. Very good display.
Amor, piny mor polo bende mor. For God and my beloved club – Kogallo

  • Bloggers Someone rate for me Sempala and how he fits in our champions league matches from August.Does his position require height or just enough muscle

    • From what i saw, that is one hell of a signing. Top! Top!

He stabilized our ship after Tusker took over the midfield. His movement and passing is good. He will soon adapt to our style and deliver even more.

This Nyangi is a disgrace to Gor fraternity. Oktay did the honourable thing by discussing the salary issue with Rachier, the woman in her arrogance opens her mouth and vomits to the media. What kind of a leader is this?Maybe she expects some politician to pay the coach through her so that she can keep her share.Let Arocho help in highlighting the negative side of Gor by pretending to be mtetezi wa wachezaji, bure kabisa.

Where is Jakoyo with his negative postings? He behaves like Nyangi that has been busy selling nonsence to politicians where money she claims to collect are shared with the beneficiaries on a 50/50 basis. She jumps up and down like a she-goat which is on heat looking for a he-goat to satisfy her appetite.

Who elected such idiots to the office?

I want to start a small debate: William Wadri of Bandari should play for us but we need to offload at least one foreigner, over to you decision makers

    Reply
  • ODHIS muga

If only we could offload Mustafa or ssekisambu and bring on board Wadri, a very aggressive and hungry for goals player. Unfortunately, Bandari never does business with Gor unless the player is a free agent.

    Reply
  • Offload both INEFFECTUAL Mustafa and Ssekisambu. And get Wardi, a good holding midfielder and a good goal keeper as a back up for Odhiambo, then the Caf Champions league will be a realistic target next season

Anyone can play for Gor however which players does Gor Nature and if they do, they normally feel the pain of releasing them. This would be another cannibalization of local teams that makes Gor Dominant and kills Kenya football. Gor should have a clear policy that promote youthful players to the senior team. Let Bandari challenge Gor for Gor to be better.
