Gor Mahia edge battling Muhoroni

Gor K’Ogalo edged out the sugar millers to keep their unbeaten record and cement top spot in Kenyan Premier League at Moi Kisumu on Sunday

Gor Mahia edged out Muhoroni Youth 1-0 to keep their unbeaten run in Kenyan Premier League match at Moi Stadium on Sunday.

Michael Olunga should have scored earlier at the first whistle of the game when he failed to find the far post. Muhoroni Youth defender Wellington Ochieng was beaten to the ball by Khalid Aucho, who found Olunga waiting and his attempt towards the far post went just wide.

In the ninth minute however, Olunga did not make a mistake scoring Gor Mahia’s opening goal. Muhoroni Youth defenders will blame themselves for conceding the goal. Instead, of clearing the ball, they raised their hands protesting an Ali Abondo handball and paid for it when Olunga latched onto the ball to score.

Two minutes later, Abondo should have connected a cross from the edge of the box but was denied by Muhoroni Youth goalkeeper Daniel Kiptoo who did well to block the shot.

Gor Mahia were so dominant that their opponents had not even made a single shot at goal by the 20th minute. This was however, to change in the 21st minute when Abbas Akinyemi had an opportunity to shoot at goal but it was fruitless.

The home side preferred to stay at the back hoping to catch Gor Mahia on counter-attack but it did not work. Gor Mahia showed a lot of discipline in midfield rarely losing the ball and with a back four playing well, their opponents rarely found room to give them problems.

By the 25th minute, Gor Mahia had forced their second corner of the match when Yussuf Mohammed headed out Olunga goal bound shot. Muhoroni made an early substitution pulling out Hamisi Abdallah for Paul Mboya. The new man was cautioned with just a few minutes into the match. But it was Gor Mahia midfielder Godfrey Walusimbi, who was lucky not to have been sent off with dangerous play on Wellingtone Ochieng.

The second half was equally action packed but it produced no goals. The best chance for Gor Mahia came in the 75th minute when Ali Abondo hit the post with the ball bouncing back into play. Meddie Kagere was rested towards the end with his place going to Innocent Wafula.

Gor Mahia Starting Line=up:  Bonface Oluoch – Musa Mohamed – Karim Nizigiyimana – Abouba Sibomana – Collins Okoth – Ali Abondo – Harun Shakava – Meddie Kagere (Innocent Wafula 88) – Michael Olunga – Khalid Aucho.

Unused Subs; Jerim Onyango – Ronald Omino – Dirkir Glay – George Odhiambo – Eric Ochieng – Ernest Wendo.

Baraza claims Gor is favoured by the refs. I just wonder why this should be so since even when it comes to finances we are one of the poorest teams but has invested where it matters.

  • Baraza should tell his boys to play to the whistle. On Gor being favoured by the refs, reason for poor performance in the continent, well I bet he will say the same when Sofapaka beats them.

Baraza has joined the band wagon, why couldnt he complain when AFC beat them 2-0 in nairobi, what about the national team poor performance,is Gor the national team too?

  • If you hear a Coach like Baraza start to talk of Gor is being push with Referees, you know he has lost the momentum of Coaching. To be honest with Baraza Gor was denied pure penalt when Jajawalu was brought down in the D area, if somebody did watch the match between Chelsea and Sunderland, the penalty that was awarded to Chelsea was exactly the same foul like that one of Gor and you hear somebody like Baraza can talk of Gor being Favoured by Referees SHAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We return all the glory and honour to the Almighty God for continued victory. Congrats to the team, technical bench, EC and fans for the sweet victory.

Baraza’s comments were the last kicks of a dying horse bound for relegation.

We were denied a clear penalty by referee Nduati against Walusimbi and a clear foul against Olunga at the edge of the box. The referee had favoured Muhoroni as most fouls were judged in favour of home team that had parked the bus with no intent of playing football throughout the 90 minutes of play. His poor strategy of counter attack did not work in his favour.

This is what we double speak by inept Kenya coaches and he should fight for resuscitating Muhoroni in order to avoid the drop, which is glaring at his face.

These are yesterday coaches with no value to the Kenya football team.

  • I was at the stadium and watched the game live but one thing i want to comment about is again officiating the referee denied kogalo two clear penalties … so sad the game had to be stopped when fans became pissed off with the referee and started throwing empty bottles into to the field, two the fans themselves, why must we be teargassed every time we try to get into the stadium? can the home teams arrange in away the we get tickets well in advance to avoid such unwarranted teargas from the police?.. again the hosting teams why do you always take advantage of Gormahia huge fan base and hike the ticket prices whenever Gor mahia plays against you? this is the genesis of chaos yesterday, those who handled the ticket sale colluded with a few ignorant individuals who were selling tickets as low as 100/- while the rest were paying 300/- i think the hosting team should announce the ticket price well in advance to avoid the unnecessary teargas #GOBLESSGORMAHIAFC find me on twitter @kungudavid

  • Dear Mr. Baraza, I know that based on the sentiments you have always expressed about Gor Mahia, you may not even read this. But should you, Please accept defeat like a gentleman and hope for another day. When you get to blame game, it usually would hurt your team because they will begin to adopt the same. Thinking that however hard they work the referees will determine their fate. Secondly, I do not see why Gor playing outside came in. Did you want them to loose to give them a better winning strategy in international games? Gor approaches every match with an attitude of a winner. I would therefore kind ask you to emulate and you will move above. The game against Western Stima that ended in a draw showed they are working hard. If we were being favored then Gor should have won that game because it was at the same venue. They are a tough Team and you saw what they did with Ingwe. Do not blame your failure on some one else. Pick up the mart and walk there is always another day.

  • Baraza like any coach in the world is entitled to his comments …are we angels to refute/dispute his views ? Just like Western Stima game, Muhoroni played very well but Gor Mahia was lucky and very tactiful !! Sometimes the team that plays well does not win .

Secondly, EC should by now have realised there is more money in hosting games in Kisumu than City stadium. Kisumu attracts huge numbers !!! A change in strategy for home games in the 2nd half of season is long overdue.

Am glad there are only 27 points to go to be declared champions once more !! meaning the league could be won by the 25th match. This bloggers is my prediction …25th Match !!!

  • Congrats to the team for the win and the clean sheet. However, there were too many high balls that were not working… the technical bench should have intervened instead of just keeping quiet. Our game is not high balls, we dont have the players for that, even the times we passed the ball we created dangerous chances… i will join the SACCO after two weeks when i return to Kenya.

Congratulations team keep it up. To Baraza are you then saying that Sofapaka was also being favoured, see this year they faired even worse than Gor, being eliminated at the very first hurdle? As a coach who wants to be respected, even if you are entitled to your opinion, you should weigh your comments on opponents.

Baraza needs to have a mouthwash or a dental check-up. He does not need a psychiatrist because he has proved that there is nothing up there.
