Gor Mahia edge Kariobangi Sharks 2-1

Gor Mahia’s match to the top of the 2018-2019 league standings continued unabated when they beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 at Kisumu on Saturday. M

The league’s MVP Eric Kapaito set the domestic cup holders on their way with a goal on 21 minutes but it was cancelled out by Lawrence Juma moments later, before Francis Kahata scored the winner on the stroke of halftime.

At Chemelil Sports Complex, Chemelil Sugar rallied from behind to edge Tusker by a similar scoreline.
Boniface Muchiri opened the scoring for Tusker in the 13th minute, before Lucas Waitere equalised for the hosts on 31 minutes. Musa Oundo netted Chemelil’s winning goal in the 40th minute from the spot after Clyde Senaji was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area.

At Moi Stadium, Gor coach Hassan Oktay was full of praise for his charges while admitting that it was a tough duel.

“The game was difficult even though we had many chances. We dominated and won which is very important to the team,” he said.

His opposite number William Muluya said his charges lost because they did not capitalise on their chances.

“Gor used their chances in the first half to beat us. We came back stronger but all they did was to manage the game,” said Muluya.

Coach Oktay overhauled his side with Kenneth Muguna being the only player given a starting role from the line-up that started against Zoo Kericho in Wednesday’s midweek clash. Gor won the match 4-0 in Kericho.

Sharks had the first open chance of the match on 13 minutes when first leg scorer Duke Abuya connected with a pass from the right wing but he failed to beat goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo in a one-on-one inside the box.

Eight minutes later, Kapaito broke the deadlock when he sent a low shot to the unguarded right side of K’Ogalo’s goalpost.

Gor almost responded immediately but Muguna’s strike inside the box after a brilliant dribble was blocked.

Sharks’ lead was short-lived as Juma found the back of the net three minutes after Kapaito’s opener. The latter latched onto a poor clearance from Philemon Otieno’s cross, to send a low drive past a helpless John Oyemba in Sharks goal.

Coach Muluya was forced to make a first-half substitution with Vincent Wasambo replacing the injured Athanas Moan.

Goalkeeper Oyemba made a brilliant save five minutes to the break when Nicholas Kipkirui played in Jacques Tuyisenge who raced to send a firece shot, which the shot stopper dived to punch over the crossbar for a fruitless corner-kick.

Gor then took the lead one minute to the break when the lively Kahata found the back of the net from outside the box with a volley which caught goalkeeper Oyemba by surprise.

Kapaito and Abuya combined well moments after the restart, but the danger was cleared by skipper Harun Shakava before Kahata missed a chance in the hour-mark from Kipkirui’s pass.

Oktay sought fresh energy upfront with Ugandan forward coming on for Kipkirui on 64 minutes, before Sharks responded in the 70th minute by resting Sydney Lokale for Nicholas Omondi.

K’Ogalo’s momentum in the clash looked to have reduced with Sharks crowding their half in search for a goal.

Tuyisenge could have bagged a third for Gor in the 75th minute, but he rushed and blasted the chance wide before Abuya’s effort two minutes later was ruled out for offside.

Abuya was not lucky again as his attempted first time finish inside the box blazed over the crossbar.

  • Congratulations Gor Mahia for beating the “blue eyed boys” of Kenyan soccer.
And mounting the LPL summit. I PRAY that by GOD’S GRACE you maintain your position at the summit till the end of the season.
Given the injustices meted out you, by the powers that be. This is a commendable feat.
Keep focused and collect the other six points prior to your return to Nairobi

  • Since i dont talk KPL, (it is given) Congratulations our today’s birth day boy Zico…….. Gor Mahia’s best aspect during the early 1990s was Zico in the defence. It was the reason Gor Mahia won the league in 1990, 91, 93 and 95 despite not having consistent scorers.

Fast forward, 2019, Gor Mahia’s best aspect during the last 3 seasons is having Zico consistently in technical bench.

Just like 1990, 91 and 93 when we won 3 league titles in four years with him as a defender and no consistent league striker , could it be another 3 league titles in the last four years come end of 2019 with him as key part of the technical bench without a consistent league striker?

    Tafakari hayo……….

  • Congrats team Kogalo. Now let TB ensure we collect max points and create a big gap to psychologically intimidate the pretenders. Meanwhile I urge Oktay to try and mould the best possible striking partnership using the KPL matches before Berkane match. Seal the defence completely and avoid cards.
Fans let’s fill Kasarani to the brim on 7th. Good lady publicity officer, we should have started feeling your efforts by now. Use all channels to mobilize fans. If Simba can fill a 60,000 stadium why not Gor?
Fans and TB this is our year. I will pay for 5 fans personally on 7th.
    Yes we can.

  • A legend is a larger than life story that gets passed down from one generation to another and to another and in most scenerios will include people you never ever so but even so still have vivid memories akin to if you had seen them I.e they become part of the folklore .
In football , many of us never saw Pele but that wouldnt except us from where an argument is about him having been the best , the same would go for Maradona , Franz Backenbeur , Messy , Ronaldo , Ronaldinho , Zidane and for the subject case of this post , Gor Mahia , we would have William Chege Ouma , Allan Thigo , Oluoch Lule , Owino kempes , Artillery, Magongo , Fundi , Otieno Engine , Oduwo Cobra , Juakali , Dan Odhiambo, Dawo and the likes .
Of late , we have lowered the bar so low that a mere flicker is enough to call somebody a legend .
Most of us never watched the examples I have given , but they are forever etched in our memories despite the fact that most are no longer with us or are not anymore associated with football .
With all due respect to Zico , he was good just like Nzigimana was good but nothing more than that and as such it is farfetched to refer to him as a Gor legend, what else did he win apart from the local league .
Back to the future , I have been very impressed with how the team has not only performed , but at how
they have gone about the intensity of the games , intelligent team rotation with an eye on Berkane -Kudos to all who have made it possible I.e the EC ,TB , The Boys and the fanbase , Lets do even more as we match forward .

  • Adopt the new constitution on the next SGM. Good move Ambrose, hope it will not be some belated April fools joke.
These are the kind of changes that make us improve.

  • Some good things seem to be happening in Gor Mahia , like I have said before , the e-ticketing , how the EC has managed so far to steer the kogalo ship to the heights they are continentally/locally and the menu that they have put into the agenda of the SGM and this is by far the most important of all initiatives that if handled well will see us have sustainable development .
A part of the proposal is to have not more than 4elective positions , that being the Chairman , V.Chair , SG and Treasurer and this is the part that if not sorted out properly in terms of electing the right personel , then all these brilliant ideas will not transit the papers they are written on .
The only way to ensure business unusual is to have a critical mass of loyal Gor supporters who are beyond reproach and manipulation , register as club members to enable them to be participants in ensuring that all the good ideas they have been propagating on this blog and elsewhere gets its way into the menu .
There are good Wo/Men and ConWo/Men who are already eying those positions , and if things are left to happen by us supporters the way we have allowed them to happen before , then from theiron we should shut up and never be heard again .
Register NOW as a Gor Member and save this club from people of questionable characters and intentions from delaying further our dreams .
A team’s fortunes starts from the boardrooms , We get it
right there , we get it right on the pitch and sustainably so .

@Teddy Sofaset, your last two sentences are great and very important. This is the best way to go for future prosperity of our great club. We need to only have officials who are fit and proper but not like the Adedes and Nyangis type. If possible all interested aspirants need to be cleared by EACC and DCI. We need women and men of great reputation, character, qualifications, experience, professional, businesswo/men, visionary, tested and proven blueprint as well individuals with no criminal records.

I am proposing that instead of electing officials, club members should be allowed to elect board members and board shall be constituted to elect chairman and vice chairman alone. Others board members can serve as the board members.

In enhancing good corporate governance, the board members will also serve in various board subcommittees.

I have had some clue of the proposed constitution as I read from the standard newspaper. If those with hidden interest will not interfere, then that should be the way to go and I will be glad to join the group of supporters by registering as a paid up member. As of now, I will remain a fan hoping that the new constitution will be passed so that we move forward.

  • Its been said over and over before but its worth being said and repeated again and again that bad leaders are chosen by Good Men and Women who dont turn up to vote and the ones who suffer the consequences are the good ones because the paid ones who turn up to vote dont just care .
But the most disgusting thing is to hear how loud the good ones lament and curse in between elections when the horse has bolted and yet the rational Gor fans far outnumber by millions the affordable mercenaries who turn out to vote .
Its worth noting that the following elections and SGM are going to be the most life changing single event in the history of Gor Mahia , a change that will see the club move from one structural trajectory to another and its incumbent upon all genuine well meaning kogallo loyalist to stand up and be counted or forever hold their peace .
Lets leave behind these petty excuses of waiting to see , waiting to see what ?, Register as a member and engage and bring the change you have been shouting yourself hoarse about on social media , Emancipate yourself from ‘The Kasarani is far branch” .

  • I get amused at how the kenyan media excitedly jumps to conclusions without any iota of discernible evidence , imaginary or otherwise .
Barely a month into this season , we were treated to some wishful conclusions how this season would be Bandari’s or Mathare’s or Sofapaka’s and that Kogallo’s stranglehold was realistically threatened .
Now the fundamental question is , how possible is it for anyone who can not be at the top of the log when the owner is not around to win it when the owner who inevitably must come back eventually does .
Secondly , it feels good to beat Sharks , Mathare or Sofapaka , but it will never come close to the feeling one gets when we beat Efusi , no matter their status , and the day we will fully appreciate this fact is the day Afc beats as .
Beating the others brings good unexciting feelings , but beating Efusi is DNA .
Wishing the boys all the best as we widen our lead at the top today and once again i give a massive big up to all that keeps on making it happen I .e the EC, TB , Fanbase and ME .

To mit na. When the league started, I heard from someone in bamba sports that this year, gor mahia fc will not be close to the title. That mathare, Bandari and sofapaka were the clubs likely to challenge for the title. I hope that guy should come out and apologize to Gor mahia family for comparing Gor mahia fc with some mediocre teams playing in Kenya premier league. Congrats team K’ogalo for the win as we match on with a game in hand. Remember that we can only count the points after winning. Next patient is Sony who have also warned that they are ready for chuor timbe.
