Gor Mahia edge Mathare
courtesy of futaa.com
Gor Mahia stepped up the gas to score twice in the second half, goals that knocked down hosts Mathare United 2-1 in a Kenyan Premier League clash played at the Nyayo National stadium on Wednesday 2 October 2013.
Both sides were guilty of missed chances in the first half but the tid changed in the second half for the better – at least for Gor Mahia.
Low shot
K’ogalo will have to thank the hard working Dan Sserunkuma for the win as he scored the first goal and created the second.
A miscued clearance from Kevin Omogi fell like manna on Sserunkuma’s feet in the 53rd minute. He wasted no time as he raced to the top of the box and fired a low shot that keeper Peter Odhiambo only managed a touch, but failed to stop, as the ball rolled to the far post.
In the 87th minute, Serunkuma bullied his way past two markers on the left, he looked up and squared a pass to the top of the box for the impressive Joseph Wanyonyi.
Just wide
The former Aspire academy player flung a hard shot goal ward that Odhiambo spilled straight to the path of substitute Edwin Lavatsa who made no mistake in sending the ball home.
In between the two goals, Osborne Monday had a chance to get a goal for Mathare but his long range shot from 40 yards out in the 79th minute flew just wide.
Eight point lead
Mathare’s goal however came, a little late though, when Wendo latched on to a long ball from his defense, shielded off two defenders in the 92nd minute of the game to place a low shot to the far right for a consolation.
The win sends Gor, who still have a game in hand against Sony Sugar, to the 47 point mark to open an eight point lead over second placed Sofapaka.
We are doing well and thanks to every party involved, players,TB,officials, fans, Tuzo etc. Let’s continue the fight and pray that we win 3 matches and a draw as at now coz batoto can manage a maximum of 57 points. Am happy.
Good work…

congratulations to Gor Mahia
I feel good……………
Its officially a 2 horse race……..Gini Marwa , Gini Marwa, Gini Marwa………10 points to go! 10 points to go! Less the 3 points we await on the Sony sugar match, that leaves 7 points to go! We win the next two games regardless of what happens to others, the celebrations may just begin. It is has been 18 years of long and painful wait……
I really love the spirits of our boys, they play like champions and through prayers we shall be there
caution Jakoyo@10…..caution!!!
Good work Team and all the Sirkal involved, we are eying nothing but the cup this time round.
I’ve accepted that this is your season n moved on,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ol the best in the remaining matches.Just waiting for the invitation card of the state function come Nov.
Yes, this could be the year, i have actually started smelling the tittle.
May i be reminded please, who was the captain the last time we won this cup. Infact anybody with good memory to give us the entire team. Sometimes its good to reflect back.
Jerry, this could be your year to lift the cup, we urge you and the entire team to remain focused.
Reality is beckoning, ooh this is great men!
This Jakoyo guy he must be stubborn and reckless the guy repeats the gini marwa three times and then calculates at seven points he is not even polished he should forget about the Sony points and talk of four wins to grab the league at 59 points bila mngangano na mtu the win must not be pegged on anything if we can win the league within the the remaining games rather than wait for a board room decision after a tie ati tupewe point tatu. The league should be won convincingly in the field of play.
In 1995 i think the captain was Zedekia Otieno i stand corrected.Back in the day he was a marvel to watch you know the overlapping reminds me of cafu the brazilian.
Congrats to vijana. It was a sweet victory. @Jakoyo, I agree with you. Gini marwa. Why am I saying this: Kogalo is not playing pata potea type of football. I therefore have no doubt in my mind that they will play pata potea football in the remaining fixtures. For that reason, the league is ours. Let us all have confidence.
For God and my beloved club – Kogallo
Congrats to the boys and the new revelation Wanyonyi. Him together with Angelo and Gaucho are the future of this team. Not forgetting the youngsters like Lavatsa, K14. I can see now that we have the depth that can afford us to win the league. The options everywhere apart from the central defence where we have the ever-present Emuge and Mosoti is good for the team. God willing we should win this trophy with several games to spare so that we can give the other team players the chance to get the feel of the league games.
Gentlemen now what i was saying here has come to pass just from the yester game,if u can remember i wrote here when people were complaining that other teams are signing big names yet Kogalo are signing the likes of Btaro,Wanyonyi,Erico and others while the like of efusi were going for the Opiyos of this world n i told the people to keep cool now u saw by urself what Wanyonyi did, thanx sir bobby Ogola for the focus
@Erico, you are right. at times we complain alot. Remember Angelo playing very well when we played Shabana and got all the accolades but when we lost to Tusker albeit thro’ a penalty the criticisms were back. I think the coach really knows what he is doing. Now Viera has given room to Pablo and we are still doing well. Let us continue supporting the team come WHAT MAY.
The performance was great and this young man Wanyonyi will go places if he remains grounded. We are lucky to have BW as our coach as he understands Gor Mahia and East African football very well. Look at the stability and professionalism that he has brought to the team.My only sympathy goes to the players like Anguyo, David Otieno and Wekesa who have as yet not impressed BW enough to gain his trust for a starting place. This is a challenge for them to pull up their socks if they still want to be part of a winning team. Gor will win the title on 23/10/2013 when we will beat Sofapaka.
Thanx Brother now i can confirm to u guys we are taking the title on 23/10/13 u can take this to the bank
Oyesss!!!!we only need 2wins from theka and sofanyambura inoder for us to be
champion elect on 23rd. then be crowned during our match wth homeboyz.the guard of honour will be done by our own armed forces thats ulinzi in afraha stadium on 9thso lets keep on prayin for the team to be strong on this last stages of kpl lig.God
Bless Gor mahia.
Ooh Laa la a..! “TPL 2013 WILL NOT GO DOWN TO THE WIRE”
AND EVERYBODY CAN NOW SMELL THE “OKOMBE”
It’s tough catch up with Gor now,Williamson declares..!
Gor Mahia coach has made it official that his side has now taken a commanding lead in the league after they opened a eight point gap at the top of the Kenya Premier League on Wednesday evening. This lead he believes could lead to the KPL title.
I watched the match and it was a pleasant show, keep it up boys. I thought somebody criticized Mosoti openly, thats not good given that that guy has not missed a game this season. He has been a pillar, an ever present wall in that defense.Lets not criticize unnecessarily. By the way I thought David Otieno could provide a very good cover for Mosoti just in case but what happened to the guy? He does not feature anywhere even on the bench. Is it coz Bobby W does not know the quantity and quality in him, Bobby O what do you say on that player?
@jathur gi ji; critisicing players is for their own good. i for one have openly as u say criticized mosoti. it does not mean that i hate the guy. kindly read the comment by bobby on mosoti. the guy has to tone down his rough play, that he is a gud player is not what is in doubt here. pls get the difference. that he has never been substituted does not mean much if the guy will never go beyond gor mahia. and to quote the coach bobby O. (today)- “The lad wastes a lot of time mouthing with the referee and playing rough football. That is the problem with Mosoti.”
and to gor… well done i did not see the last two matches but all the same congrats. gor seems to have become dorminant. the coaches who some time had no respect for gor are now humbly admitting to gor dorminance. congrats to the EC and update us on what is happening on the youth team… is wanyonyi part of this team?
and congrats to bobby O. for this forthright view. listen to your coach… turn ur game into an intelligent game. ur one guy who shud have been a permanent future in the national team by now… or simply go the matasia(afc goalie) way. but again the player can choose to bask to what i have read here ‘ as kingpin of defence, no nonsense and hardtackles’ … only time will tell.
I want to salute the boys for the win yesterday, and one fan stands out: POD ANTIE is the antidote, this guy comments like a true hero, . . .thank you sir.
Coming to think of Wanyonyi, AFC must be trying so hard to get him next season: this team GOR MAHONO, has made me happy and even so when the title lands to its rightful place:
I have thought of ANABA AWONO! Who remembers him?
Happy to be associated with the Mighty Kogallos. Kudos team. Its not yet over untill its over and the Trophy is with us. Go for it.
Gor has demonstrated that it can supply other teams with players and still win the cup
Tusker – Moses Otieno, Ali abondo, Gatuso
City – Denis wise
Sony – the Keeper and coach
AFC – Masika.
No problem. If they are eying “JEHOVA” wanyonyi, that’s fine. If he goes far we have solidarity fee – another avenue of income
@ Paw Akucho, yes it was Zeddy Otieno. Today Zeddy is a coach and that is the long that we have waited. Probably our youngest player, Wanyonyi, must have been a toddler then.
I believe that God will give us victory this time round.
“Omera twang’uru sude, okombe biro”
its nice to know that we have “JEHOVA” Wanyonyi and remember its business if he is good sign him for like 3 or 4 years, ndio when they come for him it will be dear to pay up….hawa watu wametuzoea iwe waarabu iwe ingwee wametuzoea…
As much as I respect Bobby O. his comments on one of his players in public was not in good taste. I expected him to use the failings on the players part to be part of the coach’s development program for the player. It should not just be football coaching but imparting life skills as well. That’s a goof on the coach but maybe the coach was not aware of the impact of the statement. Such a statement can even be used by a ref to ‘punish’ Gor since the coach himself has acknowledged some things. Please provide GUIDANCE and what can you tell us about having fielded the same player for practically all the matches in the season. He must be doing a great job to warrant a starting position in every match.
AN OPEN LETTER TO JOHN BOBBY OGOLA
This letter may be too long but I beseech you to bear with me and read it.
I m hoping for 3 things in the matter of JBO alleged comment on Mosoti as being too rough and mouthy against the referees.
1. That he was misquoted out of context by the media (Futaa.com)
2. That he must have discussed this matter with the player and the senior coach before the outburst.
3. That its an unfortunate event that must not be repeated before the media in the future.
We must treat this outburst as being very unkind to Mosoti, especially coming from one of the people that he trusts and believes in. We know of the hair-drier treatment (SAF)which was never done in the public. 2. Phil Brown of Hull City Tigers once gave his half-time pep-talk in the field instead of proceeding to the dressing-room during the break. We know of Rafa Benetiz, he of Liverpool then saying nothing at half-time during their 2005 CL match against AC Milan. BW must pull JBO aside and give him some timely advise on building players’ confidence and trust. There are player who will sign for a Club because they want to play for a particular coach. Does the French connection with Arsene Wenger and Arsenal ring a bell, anyone!!! Mesut Ozil has just transferred to Arsenal from Real Madrid because he felt undervalued at RM despite being their 2nd best player after CR7 and because Arsene convinced him that he values him. SAF was supremely gifted at pulling together a group of average players and turning them into world beaters. Look at how David Moyes is struggling to post meaningful results after inheriting the same squad from SAF! These are the same players that won the EPL at a canter last year for SAF. JBO must know that for him to have achieved the near cult and legendary status in Kenyan and African football, there are those that:- took him in, watched over him, covered for him, believed in him, trusted him and above everything, pulled him aside (away from the public glare) and pointed out to him his mistakes and offered solutions to those mistakes. THIS IS WHAT WE CALL FOOTBALL EDUCATION. Its JBO’s and any other coach’s work to use their experience and football education to impart these football knowledge to the players at their disposal. That is why he is employed as a coach and a manager in our football management. He MUST make the players to trust and believe in him, and he must also TRUST and BELIEVE in them. i.e the players. What JBO did is ethically naive and a personal admission that: – on his own he is still inadequate and cannot be trusted to deliver trophies for a team of Gor Mahia’s standing. If you are not sure of what to say or answer to the media then just adopt the famous Arsene Wenger’s saying- (I DID NOT SEE IT). Doing this , you will be able to protect your players especially in an incident where your player is the offender. Arsene Wenger recently revealed that there are times that he has lied to the media to protect his players!! Does the infamous PIZZA GATE ring a bell anyone!! I am sorry to have turned the heat on a one time illustrious son of Kogalo but its necessary so that we can all grow together. We expect JBO to one day not only take charge of Gor Mahia but our National Team- The Harambee Stars. He must improve his level, and if possible go back to school and acquire the necessary knowledge that will stand him in good stead for future jobs. JBO cannot coach by heart and experience alone, as football has gone scientific with a lot of interpretations and analysis, before, during and after matches. He needs to earn his barges from world re known school of football. The Dutch school of total football (KNVB), the Brazilian and the German Schools of football comes to mind. If he does not wake up now then he will be like his friend R. Matano. A man who never played any meaningful football, has refused to learn and still prides himself as being one of the greatest coaches in Kenya if not the greatest. Yes, he was Matano’s assistant at Sofapaka when they won the KPL title in 2009. A Sofapaka team, well-funded and with the best collection of players available then. They were playing against below average teams, some of which could not honour some of their matches because of financial difficulties. Therefore, there was little or no competition at all, hence them winning with 5 matches to go. Matano has been found wanting at Tusker and will soon find himself without a job because he has never advanced himself professionally since winning the 2009 title with Sofapaka. Matano never won the 2012 title with Tusker but Pamzo did. He just swallowed what was put into his mouth. Tusker should have not won the 2013 KPL Top 8 had Loga not decided to give the reserves a run-out in the Semis against Gor Mahia. So I m inclined and bravely so to conclude that JBO learnt nothing new and useful in the coaching aspect while assisting Matano at Sofapaka in 2009.It hurts us when we see our former gallant stars being over-looked whenever coaching opportunities arise within Kenya or even outside our boarders because they lack the appropriate papers /licences/ qualifications. If he had the necessary papers, Gor Mahia would not have offered the coaching job to Stanley Okumbi of Mathare United when Loga was fired. Of course Okumbi politely declined to take it up and we ended up with Bob Williamson, not that we are complaining. JBO will not assist forever and should convince Ambrose Rachier to sponsor him for some serious coaches’ Courses immediately the league is on recess. I would recommend your destination to be in Europe, precisely Germany. Their football is on the up and you would learn a lot while there. Finally, a respected coach will never criticize his players in public but will always protect them. Any serious coach should be firm but should never rule his players with an iron fist. If in doubt, ask your friend R. Matano. He will soon find out that he is the one who has been found out, both by the employers and the players themselves. He will soon have no job. I dont want this to happen to JBO. Thank you.
@le pastre, I salute u for your open letter to JBO. At this time of the KPL, we do not want any distractions to win the league. JBO comments were uncalled for and these comments that should come from opponents. On my own assessment, JBO should think before he outbursts or goes to press with his uncoothed tantrums. There is no day Dan Mosoti bas been suspended nor given marching order out of the pitch. If JBO is not interested in being assistant to Bobby Williamson, he should throw in the towel and join the opponents. This is the time the team need moral support, encouragement and protection to win the league. Such comments are unnecessary at this time of the league.
I do not think JBO has any gut to criticize the player like Mosoti who is very committed to the team. He is not even qualified as a coach to handle a team like Gor Mahia. I suggest he should step aside or join the opponents.
@le pastre and bro. Mwakio i tend to disagree with u on your comments on JBO Remarks on Mosoti and advice u to watch replays on screen then get hear what analyst and competitors say, why do u think he has always been overlooked for national team’s call up. Yes he plays rough games in pretext of professional tackles pls review our top 8 matches against tusker u will believe his protection/insurance is our twelveth player (KDF) who the local referees fear most. Sometimes he needs to calm down. Earlier this year JBO took a TWO WEEKS CAF coaching licence course in egypt sponsored by EC AND FKF. My suggestion is to rest the player on two alternate games to allow him cool down and use calabar at the center. For god and my club
Dan Original, Le Pastre you are right and I was saddened to read the comments by Bobby O, he once made similar public comments against Ali Abondo; the moment he did that I knew for sure that Abondo was not going to be a Gor player any more.Akuot Oyugi so what are you suggesting? Is Bobby not part of the TB and is he not supposed to play the father figure calling the wayward child aside and providing fatherly advise? Has he done that? By making such corrective comments it does not mean we hate Bobby O, no.The baseline is that such comments should never be made in public, NEVER.
My answer to Akuot Oyugi is simple- Do not gloss over the letter but consummately read it, understand it and internalize it brother! It is only in doing this that you will come up with an objective and credible criticism. There is no where in our postings (please read it again) where we have condoned Mosoti’s style of play or his acts of being mouthy towards the referees!! This was a well researched and thought of article and let people criticize it on its merits and demerits only.
1. We have not demonized JBO for reprimanding Mosoti for his style of play or actions while on the pitch, rather we are uncomfortable and saddened by his choice of platform and method of making the pronouncement!!. Its only a non qualified and a non professional coach who will go to the media to point out the weaknesses of his team to the whole public (opponents included!!) Why is he a coach in the first place if he has failed to address his players’ flaws!!! Why continue to field the same player (Mosoti has been a permanent fixture in Gor’s defence) if he has failed to follow your instructions!! Was this outburst his way of admitting to us that he has failed as a coach! Mosoti is a defender just like JBO was during his illustrious playing days. He is therefore the best suited to impart some of the superior defensive knowledge that served him so well as as a player to the defenders of this club. Therefore, JBO has failed as a coach and should not go to the media to accuse his players for their actions / inaction or their style of play!!! Akuot should know why, to earn your coaching badges in the more superior leagues,i.e EPL or Bundesliga you have got to be attached to clubs. In doing this, you get to learn from the coaches of these clubs. You get to experience first-hand, how to act and react during trainings, during matches and after the matches. You would not get this by attending a 1-3 weeks CAF sanctioned Instructor Induction Courses or assisting an equally unqualified R. Matano. This is all that JBO has as at now. Why do you think, despite his not well-known carrier as a player, Gor Mahia were offering the coaching job to Stanley Okumbi when Loga was sacked!! He must be having something that JBO does not have as at now! We are simply stating facts:- that for JBO to ascend the ladder of football management, he has to go back to school. Take time off and professionally advance yourself by taking proper football education from proper football schools. I rest my case.
la pastre as a professional i wish to meet u over around table to soberly debate and prosecute this case. Ali Abondo’s case was similar to Alex Song when he wanted to live arsenal for Barcelona he always wanted to start not be used as a substitute. i know him he was my next door neighbor in Ngumba estate.
You are not helping matters Mr Akuot Oyugi, as your having been neighbours with the said Ali Abondo is not a matter being canvassed / prosecuted here. You’re introducing a fallacious point which is gravely off the mark. As fans, we are more interested/ concerned with how well the team is managed and the results posted and not where which player or fan lives!!! For your information, Ali Abondo, Yusuf Juma and Moses Odhiambo (not Dube) leaving Gor Mahia was long overdue. The latter two had become deadwoods (part of the club furniture) while Abondo was a one dimensional player who thrived under the guidance of coach Loga who only wanted to use players who could perform only the basics (run up and down). He was not imaginative enough to persuade our beloved BW and JBO to retain him. You have overstretched your limits by invoking Song’s name in a local matter. The Arsenalists / Gooners like Ogidi and Radull will tell you the real reasons behind Song’s hastened departure from Arsenal-to Barcelona. If they wont, then I will Tell you! He, like v. Persie, did not wnt to wait for another year before winning a trophy. Wenger was not yet ready to invest in super star players that the 2 had requested of hoped for. Thus their minds were made up to leave in the absence of new super star additions. To help Arsenal- challenge for Silverware, they argued that big name additions had to be made. In other words Arsenal-had become too smaller a club for both of them. That is the story. Back home, it fills me with pleasure to note tht we shall soon be celebrating our 13th title. As for the Ali Abondo saga, we have never missed him. Gor Mahia got the longer end of the stick by firing Loga and letting the 3 aforementioned players leave the club. We have ended with the impressive Wanyonyi and the industrious Angelo not to mention Coach Bob Williamson. We will win the League and God willing will be able to defend the FKF Cup, now Christened the GOTV SHIELD because of Sponsorship. Gor Mahia are in an imperious form and it will take a very special team to stop us from winning the double. As at now, such a team hardly exists in Kenya and with unbiased officiating Gor Mahia should be able to win the double comfortably.
GOR BIRO
YAU NE YO!
