Goals from Rama Salim and Paul Kiongera ensured that Gor Mahia dislodge Thika United and hand new coach Bobby Williamson maiden league win

New Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson started his reign at the helm of one of Kenya’s oldest clubs on a positive note, guiding the team to a 2-0 win over Chemelil Sugar at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday night.

With the win K’Ogalo move to top of the table opening a two point gap over Thika United and have a one game advantage over the milk men.

Goals from Rama Salim and Mungai Kiongera in each half ensured Gor collect maximum points to ascend to the top of the 16 team log.

K’Ogalo were always dangerous from the onset and the attacking partnership of Rama Salim and Mungai Kiongera proved dangerous with their nice moves.

Eight minutes into the match, Mungai Kiongera could have lifted K’Ogalo to the lead but he mis-kicked a clever chipped pass from Rama Salim, who had spotted him at the edge of the box.

Chemelil too were not relenting on the attack and they created two dangerous chances which were however, well dealt with. In the 12th minute, Jared Obwoge, who was Chemelil’s danger man, missed a clear chance with his free header just inside the box from Sammy Wakhanya’s cross going over the bar.

The game turned out to be a muscling match in the centre of the pack with both keepers being reduced to spectators, only collecting stray balls for goal kicks but were never really put to the test.

Five minutes to the breather, Chemelil had another chance, Jared Obwoge again failing to hit past Jerry Onyango with a low shot after Francis Oduor’s well measured cross from the right wing.

Chremelil’s missed chances would turn back at them, Rama Salim heading home in the 44th minute. Chemelil keeper Jairus Adira committed a blunder going all the way to the edge of the 18-yard box to collect a cross ball, missing it entirely.

The ball fell onto Edwin Lavatsa’s feet and the Harambee Stars forward looped the ball goal wards, Rama Salim jumping higher than Jimmy Agembe to head home.

Chemelil’s ambitions would not be cut out in the second period as they pressed their feet harder on the gas pedals. Victor Omondi saw his well taken free-kick saved by Jerim Onyango with Daniel Mutahi’s shot from the edge of the box going just wide.

Chemelil were beginning to win the midfield battle, controlling the ball and spraying the passes. Bobby Williamson noticed the gap in the middle and pulled out Joseph Njuguna, bringing in Ivan Anguyo to calm things down.

However, it would be Kiongera who would calm things down as he doubled Gor’s lead in the 61st minute with a low left footed drive. Innocent Mutiso had sprayed the ball onto the enterprising Mungai who created space for himself before unleashing the shot that beat Adira.

Gor were now comfortably on the driving seat and they resolved to keep possession though Chemelil were tirelessly looking for a goal back. Francis Oduor was always stubborn on the wings but Gor’s defense never let off a slight shake in concentration.

Gor Mahia’s new signing Patrick Oboya was given 15 minutes on the pitch taking Mungai Kiongera’s place, and he never disappointed with his deft touches and breathtaking moves.

I thank the almighty Father for this win. Congra to the new coach and players. I suggest Oboya should be given more play time. He has half way proved himself. It is a great challange to the new coach how he is going to have his 1st eleven from the many talented players we have.

Congrat Boys for giving Sir Bobby Williamson his first win in Tusker premier league. One game at a time.I think Sir Bobby Williamson is an experienced coach who knows who is to play in which position at what time.So however much anybody will want Oboya to start should leave that to the coach.K’ogalo forever.

We thank the Almighty God for having given us the sweet victory. I return all the glory and honor to our Lord that vindicated us today in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile the match was very entertaining as the new coach came up with our usual pattern which we have missed in many games.

Good going guys – let’s keep our composure, and not make the same mistake the EFUSI made last year by celebrating prematually. We still have 15 games to go, but by the look of things, we are on the right track !

Congrats boys, I’m extremely happy that we are now at the apex of the summit. Being aware that it is a very slippery position, you must look for the super glue i.e win more points then we shall be there to the end. I believe we have a squad of great talents may I suggest that except for Jerry, Owino and Mosoti all other players be fielded rotationall in alternate matches so as to avoid demoralisation arising from complains of loss of playing time.

  • Its great the 2 Bob’s are off to a winning start.
Fans should start thinking beyond the TPL title and towards attaining regional and continental supremacy.
Our choice of a lean EC will be crucial, many who want to stand are Johnny come lately who have no footballing experience at any level or even engagement with club.

  • Congratulations boys for the sweet win over the stubborn sugar men.

I think we have gotten a great coach. Yesterday i saw less pressure and strain on our midfielders and the playing pattern actually gave us three goals though only two counted.

As fans we are there for you. Work hard and let’s hope for the best. ‘Gini pok wakao’

All I can say to the team and fans is CONGRATS. But from what i see we still have some ground to cover, especially in the midfield. We no longer dominate that area despite having very good players. Something needs to done to bring out the team work in them and not their individual brilliance.
Let’s celebrate cautiuosly knowing that ‘ball hudunda’ and desist from ‘Gini wasekao’ chants. We have numerous examples, including ingwe last year to draw learnings from. As we all know it’s easy to go to the top but maintaining that position is the hardest. Especially with 15 games to go.
All the same let’s support the team like never before. On ticketing let’s avoid the situation where Chemelil lost what they needed most in terms of not getting the ticketing process right which ended in most fans either bribing their way or getting in free.

  • Was pleased by the fact that we still could pass the ball through tiny spaces as was portrayed yesterday, . .kudos!
Let us not even talk of the title, playing the league is like a marathon, or better still like Tour De France,(Mont Vermont) and the many steep climbs, . .so we be cool and let us leave player selection to the coach and his technical bench alone, . . . and the elections that are due should not affect the playing fraternity at all!

Well deserved win to the Kogallo family

Who will beat Sir Bobby Williamson? bcos I was hopping that with his first match he will loose bcos he doesnt know this league but having won the first match against a very good side, who will survive his wrath.Rem he was just a national team coach in Uganda without staying with players for a long time & now he will be with players full time.which team will not be beaten by Gor K’ogalo Gor Sirkal Gor mayienga?

Congrats to everybody, the players, the fans, bobby odiero, bobby ogolla and the entire technical bench.
We should now carry on this momentum into the subsequent games, and take it OGAT, and desist from rhetorics such as gini marwa, gini wase kao, gini wase lal go etc.
Disaster will be when such rhetorics get into the players. If we keep on saying these things, it is very easy for such rhetorics to get into the players. For a team that lost the league on the last day, I think we should know better and we should exercise restraint and be measured in our celebrations as dan orignal has aptly put it.
I also agree with oduor 12,that even if we win the league, that is wher the hard work will begin, we should then plan to conquer the region and africa.
On yesterday’s match, much still needs to be done but atleast we are making progress.Atleast we can score two goals without being ‘given’ a penalty, jakoyo are you there?
Special mentions to salim rama, who even though he hadn’t broken the fast yet, gave a fairly good account of himself, though he seemed to loose concentration on some instances. He should also work on his ‘generosity’ with the ball.At times he is a little bit selfish. The coaches, seems to have figured out where he plays best- behind the striker(s).
As for mungai kiongera, someone please help me out, how on earth did kcb allow his loan move to gor?????, that goal was!!!!!
We also should start planning for life after david owino and kiongera, coz honestly I dont see them with us next season. The two have outgrown the tpl. They are ripe for S.Africa/scandinavia, then proceed to mainstream europe after two seasons.Bobby williamson, might also be snapped by nyamweya.
Let’s think about the next game, and nothing else.

    Congrats to everyone.
The players, the fans, bobby odiero, bobby ogolla and the entire technical bench.
I’d like to echo dan originals’ sentiments that we should exercise restraint in our celebrations and have some measures in in our jubilations. For a team which lost the league on the last day of the league, we should desist from rhetorics such as gini wasekao/gini wase lal go/gini marwa/tim ochiek. We all know what happens when such rhetorics get into players. With 15 games to go, hii kitu bado.
Let’s just carry on this new found momentum into our subsequent matches, and think about our most important match, which is always the next.
On yesterdays’ match, much still needs to be done, though significant progress has abeen made, for example when was the last time we scored two goals without a penalty?, jakoyo are you there?.
Special mentions to salim rama, who though he hadn’t broken the fast yet, gave a fairly good account of himself.Though he seemed to loose concentration at some point. He also needs to work on his ball’generosity’, coz at times he is a little bit selfish. But with the bobbies playing him behind the striker (s), the rama salim who made jogoo rd closed for nearly 3hours,the area around tok komwanda a no go zone area and coach zedekiah otieno sneaked out in an ambulance, is almost back.
As for mungai kiongera, I dont know what kind of weed kcb were smoking when they agreed to his loan move to kogallo!, that goal!!!!!!!!!
We should start preparing for life without david owino and kiongera next season. The two have outgrown the tpl, and I see them in S.africa/Scandinavia next season before they join mainstream europe after a season or two in SA/scandinavia.Bobby odiero will also be snapped by nyamweya.
Lets’ work even harder for our remaining matches, coz as oduor 12, puts it real work will begin when we win the tpl, coz we will now be expected to conquer the region and africa as a whole…..OGAT my brothers and sisters OGAT….

An observation I made about bob odiero.
The scott NEVER sits down during a match(even when he was in charge of the cranes, albert kosero will bear me witness on this) he’s always standing on the touchline, issuing, (not barking orders the way his maverick predecessor used to).
He cuts the figure of someone who takes his work very seriously, his pose is also of someone who is in control.Very calm and collected.
Players and fans will definitely draw inspiration from the gaffer.

I beg to tread cautiously and like many bloggers here,i choose not to celebrate just yet…until the fat lady sings!!!

We still have tough matches to come and thats not a guarantee that we will win them all!

So my fellow bloggers, lets not start celebrating just yet,we still have soooo much to do before we can start celebrating!!!

Congrats to the boys for the sweet victory. What a way to welcome Bobby Odiero!!. @Arrumtiddi, what an observation. Indeed Bobby Odiero does not sit at all during matches.
On celebrations, I do not think it is bad to celebrate. This is the time. Let us celebrate as much we can. I do not see how this will affect the team. This title is ours. We should not be sorry for being expectant. After all there is no team that competes in the league with the aim of not winning the title, not even Homeboys.

  • Can somebody tell us about the signings we made on transfer deadline date. Were this signing of any help? I don’t attend trainings.Somebody who attends might have seen this guys in training and can give us his/her comments. It disturbing to see others teams making signing who makes impact on their 1st game and gor rushes the last minute to sign players who had not been playing for sometimes and even miss to make it to the bench. The technical bench should identify loopholes earlier enough(Many fans have identify midfield)and come up with ways of filling them so that we are not beaten by financially muscular clubs and rush on the deadline to sign unworthy players ending up even not appearing on the bench before sending them off after 6 months.

GOR MAHIA FOREVER ….I like the critical thinking behind ARUMMTIDDI . Guys let us stay focused and take a game at a time . What seems like GOLD ( Dan Sserenkuma ) to the former coach, looks like silver to BOBBY ODIERO and that is LIFE .

last season was a painful closure with guys like RAMA SALIM making me cry on the bench, because they wanted the league so bad , i mean any GOR FUN was disappointed .
Guys , being at the TOP is the most difficult , because it comes with high pressure when we draw or loose a match , and this could happen.
Pray for the team , give positive comments and be open minded for the coming 14/ 15 matches .

    GOR MAHIA FORVEVER ….
