Gor Mahia edge Sharks 1-0

Gor Mahia players yet again put aside their off the field issues to earn a hard fought 1-0 win over Kariobangi sharks at Afraha on Sunday

Additional reporting from the Nation

Record Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia left it late to celebrate Mashujaa Day with a 1-0 win over stubborn Kariobangi Sharks in a thrilling match at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Sunday.

The 18-time champions were made to wait until stoppage time and it’s Ghanaian Francis Afriyie, who came in for off-colour Ivorian Gnamien Yikpe, who found the breakthrough.

With the match poised to end in a barren draw, another substitute Kennedy Otieno unleashed a volley from the right wing that came off the upright and the ball fell kindly for an unmarked Afriyie who rounded Sharks goalkeeper John Oyemba before slotting into an empty net.

“I am very excited for scoring a goal in this match given that our performance was not at its best,” said Afriyie.

“I am happy my boys were sharper and aggressive in the last quarter. In football, the final whistle determines the winner and today we were made to wait until the last minute,” said Gor Mahia coach Steven Polack.

A disappointed Kariobangi Sharks coach William Muluya claimed Afriyie scored from an offside

As fans, this is a game the players should have given a walkover to sharks to show solidarity with our key players AWOL i.e financially crippled captain and vice captain, who are alleged to be about to call it quits.

I am saddened in the land of Donald Trump who like Badoer is a madman I silting all and sundry while Wazito FC goyo tier cannot win anything. While Jasego was away Stanley Okumbi exchanged hard blows with Fred Ambani after KK homeboys defeat owing to differences in fielding of players. Okumbi is the one who signed retirees while ambani wants nothing to do with them. They have since been sacked promptly forthwith by Badoer. Onto Zedekiah Zico who personally I have never seen eye to eye with and told him off with his agent Jakoyo that he would never be Head Coach of GM for more than two weeks at any given time now is inciting Muguna and Joash into boycotting training and using the 3 months unpaid salary Clause to follow him to KCB…Times are tough and I have gotten willing sponsor for GM who I promised to unveil by this weekend but having sat down with their board of directors none is willing to approve a new budget in the final quarter of the financial year. So they will unveil in Dec. In the meantime Ador is pursuing some local options including stalled Tuzo and Keroche to push us till then. Congrats all our wonderful boys for victory over K Sharks and to Francis Afriyie and Gnamien Yikpe who are starting to show why I brought them…

Zico is starting a war that he is going to lose badly. Why in the world of football can a former Gor Mahia player and coach incite our players to down their tools with a selfish view of joining KCB? The “football gods” will not allow this to come to full fruition.

This sabotage attitude also confirms why Zico has never succeeded is Gor Mahia as a coach because “football gods” have never been happy with him as a traitor. “Football gods” rejected Zico long time ago when as a player he led a strike in the playing unit due to delayed payment of wages and allowances. Zico should stick to his mediocre football lane as curses will continue to follow him if he continues with the gluttonous behaviour after eating from Gor Mahia and now he is spewing in the same plate that he ate from for many years as a player and coach. Zico is starting a war with “football gods” that are going to destroy his career. In order for Zico to succeed in football career, he should let these “football gods” live in peace. I can assure Zico that even if he takes half of our Gor Mahia team players, KCB will not win the league. He is making a grave football mistake that he will live to regret with in his football career. Zico needs to ask himself why he has not succeeded in Gor Mahia because of these “football gods” that have not been happy with him due to his betrayal, sabotage and traitor traits as both a former player and coach. Why is Zico trying to cut a hand that once fed him? Can he read history about Gor Mahia?

This must be a warning to these former players from Western Stima that they will not and will never succeed in their football careers if they continue to become traitors. Any player(s) that will try to betray the club will end up losing their football forms and positions in the national team as well as no football club will associate with team as these “football gods” will destroy their football careers.

An example should also be drawn to the careers of the former players that tried to forcefully get out of the this great Gor Mahia club. Recently look at careers of Walusimbi, Masika, Abondo, Wanyonyi etc. Players need to seek transfers peacefully and they will succeed wherever they go. The “football gods” will destroy their careers in case they betray the club and wherever they go there will be no peace with their football careers. Also such betrayers or traitors should take note that these “gods” will also never allow such players to come back as they have polluted and betrayed the club in the past. Some players without naming their names have been a reference case in this matter.

Gor Mahia financial problems will end very soon and irregardless of these temporary financial hiccups, Gor Mahia over the years have been the best paying team in the country better than company sponsored teams like KCB, Tusker, state owned Ulinzi, Bandari etc.

We are not sleeping and Ambrose Rachier has not been sleeping in getting new sponsors. Any team(s) or individual(s) celebrating our predicament will be in for a very big and rude surprise.

@Ogango Trailer can confirm this mystic Gor Mahia Mahono, Wuod Ogalo, Chuor Timbe, Mayienga etc.

Muguna your were welcomed back peacefully after forcing a move to Eastern Europe but you are now betraying the “football gods” that are going to destroy your career for good. Please note that the same fate will follow you and you will soon forget about football because these “football gods” will not be happy with you.

My honest advise to players that are not happy with the current challenges club is currently going through, please just try to make a peacefull transfer but not sabotaging the course of the club. So therefore watch this space and watch again!!!!!

The situation in Gor Mahia is truly dire. We have never been at this lowest for a very long time. I want to hold the government and Nick Mwendwa culpable for this.

The timing does not even help matters because of the crucial continental and local ties coming ahead. We therefore need to hold our breathe and think and act soberly. Personally I don’t have any evidence to pin down Zico with. I cannot condemn Muguna and Joash either although considering that they are leaders what they did was outright irresponsible. Let K’Ogalo not rush at finger-pointing. Instead, dialogue should be the way.

All players signed by Gor Mahia are in the club because they are the creme-de-la-creme. If all factors were constant, we would not have witnessed these unfortunate events.

Before we condemn anyone let us ask ourselves what we can do to reverse these setbacks. Is there any Club African Fans mentality in us? Much like Gor Mahia, Club African is in dire financial straits, but her fans faced the matter head-on and within a matter of one week had fundraised an equivalent KES 25 m through the club’s paybill 350100. What have we done with our 350100?

Patience, Johny my boy. Patience. I know you are very annoyed with these two. I am too, but we need them. We need all our players. Considering the tricky situation we are in, Johny I beseech you that we don’t throw the baby with the bath water. If as a club, we fight anger and frustration with more anger and frustration then we shall be preparing our graveyard. Patience and tolerance Johny. Let reason reign, not emotions.

@Barefoot Bandit and @Johny, the duo should stop testing our patience. It is Gor Mahia that made them to be selected into the national team and Muguna came back to resurrect his dwindling career after he had forced his move to Eastern Europe. Joash won last season accolades because of Gor Mahia and he too need to respect the club that has given him platform to prosper.

@Jamigori, you have put it very well and Zico be warned now that he should stop testing our patience and tolerance. Let @Jakoyo inform him that he should stop testing our patience. Zico should leave Gor Mahia alone and concentrate with KCB.

@Jakoyo, how do you support insubordination in the club and players to go on strike. Shame on you with such backstreet utterances. Yes, allowances, wages and salaries can delay due to the current club circumstances but eventually all players will be paid all their outstanding allowances, wages and salaries no matter how long the delay takes.

Our current situation and circumstances is not permanent. We will overcome these challenges and we require is more accountability and transparency at the Executive Office and fans too need to be more accountable on our actions and pay the full match entry charges.

  • I wish to categorically disagree with those who are directing their anger at Zico for whatever is happening at Gor Mahia .
Zico’s obligation is and must only be KCB and it is his responsibility to scout for players from wherever who will fulfill the vision he has for KCB , Should we next expect Zico to deliberately lose a game against Gor Mahia in appreciation for all that Gor has done for him , Zico must be left alone to scout and recruit from wherever he deems fit , let us instead focus on what has caused the situation .
But to Muguna and Joash , I wish to remind you that you dont go for micro solutions in issues that are more or less macro and I contextualise this vis a vis your career upward mobility in a profession that has a window as short as ten years , KCB will ofcourse provide you with short years of average no pressure comfort but into oblivion , whilst with hard work and grit , Gor gives you short period of pressured pain but with a shot at a life of permanent comfort , Olunga is headed there , Tuisenge is headed there , Kagere is headed there , when these guys chose Gor , Tusker , Bandari etc existed , but they chose Gor inspite of its pains and thorns based on their future life calculations .
I wish to support @Johny on his assertion that whilst 350100 is a good idea , the better idea is to fill the stadiums and PAY , filling and paying in our home games e.g twice a month if accountability is roped in is capable of raising the 5million or so in salaries that is required monthly , Sadly , the fans and the EC have conspired to make sure that doesnt happen and when it doesnt happen , we misplacingly train our guns on Zico as if he is supposed to be part of our solution.
Amidst all these , our CEO has the temerity and luxury to refocus his attention of becoming President of FKF , and am not saying he shouldn’t , but really !!!!!!

You are absolutely right Teddy Sofaset on this one. First of all, receive my greetings.

By blaming Zico for the two or three players who went AWOL, I think we are refusing to look at ourselves in the mirror. Instead we choose who is convenient for us to fight. We are in effect leaving in denial and being delusional when we choose to pour our rage and vitriol on Zico.

I am not his advocate, but whether guilty or innocent this is not the time to train our guns on Zico. We should instead come up with means to financial stability the way J’Asego is doing out in the US.

I want to reiterate that in the same spirit of dialogue like our coach SGP, we should not rush to demonize the three players for their acts that we have all perceived as bordering on indiscipline. Let them be given a hearing. We need them for now. Players do come and go and as Teddy Sofaset always says, the constant is Gor Mahia. Let us not be blinded by rage and end up hurting the club in the name of putting the two key players where they belong.

I beg to disagree. If there is an iota of truth that Zico is meddling with the team at this time then it is very unfortunate to say the least. Is he or is he not? If he is then I will not hesitate to condemn him and his actions in the strongest terms. You do not laugh at and ridicule your mother’s nakedness, that would be tragic.
