Gor Mahia edge Thika United 2-1

Two Assists: Eric Ouma “Marcelo”

Gor Mahia managed a hard fought 2-1 win over Thika United on Sunday. Two goals and two assists from Jacque Tuyisenge and Eric Ouma “Marcelo” respectively were enough to give Gor Mahia the victory. All goals came in the first half.

Additional Reporting from goal.com
Lead striker Jacques Tuyisenge and wonder-boy Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma were a beauty for K’Ogalo ensuring two goals before 20 minutes of the game.

Just a few minutes after Thika United defender Suleiman Ngotho had cleared a threat posed by Francis Kahata from a free-kick, ‘Marcelo’ crossed from the left to rightfully find Tuyisenge’s header hitting the net for Gor Mahia’s opening goal in the 13th minute.

The Rwandese, who is among the contenders of the league’s Golden Boot Award, was well placed again four minutes to connect ‘Marcelo’s cross for the second goal in what was a replica of the first goal.

With that happening, coach Ze Maria’s tactics were paying off after he surprisingly redeployed ‘Marcelo’, who has been at the left-back to a forward role for the first time ever since he joined Gor Mahia late last year.

By the 39th minute of the game, K’Ogalo had outweighed the milkmen in all departments forcing former Muhorni Youth keeper Martin Elunga’t to expensive saves. Innocent Wafula, Francis Kahata and Ouma were all over the pitch terrorizing the likes of Dennis Odhiambo, Suleiman Ngotho, Timothy Luda and Samuel Mwanje.

However, a little blunder cost the visitors a minute later. Keeper Jerim Onyango paid little attention to Eugene Mukangula’s move to an extent of letting a loose ball go through to the net for Thika United’s consolation.

That was a blunder. The remaining five minutes of the first half could not change the situation and so the teams had to wait for what the second half brings on the table.

Just like the first half, the second half was commissioned by a free-kick for Gor Mahia and Kahata was the man at it once again despite being fruitless. Harun Shakava’s header then missed the target by a whisker thereafter before Ernest Wendo was forced to clear a threat from a Sammy Meja free-kick.

Baron Oketch’s inclusion in the 74th minute stirred up the visitors’ spirits but Thika United had resorted not to allow any other goal past Elung’at. In fact, he rose to save what would be the third goal for K’Ogalo on the injury time when Tuyisenge came with a job-finishing shot a few seconds to the final whistle.

Thika United Starting XI: Martin Elungat (GK), 23. Sammy Meja, 12. Bincent Nyaberi, 4. Dennis Odhiambo, 16. Suleiman Ngotho, 13. Michael Luvutsi (Michael Mutinda 78’), 35. Samuel Mwanje, 22. Ray Omondi (11. Salim Mzee 62’), 7. Joel Tata, 10. Eugine Mukangula 8. Timothy Luda.

  • Good game given the state of the pitch. Wendo and Kahata seemed off in the last stages of the game. May have been the coach’s instructions to take the foot of the pedal, soak the pressure and run down the clock. Risky with a higher calibre opponent but worked this time. As for Jerry just a bad day in the office. Should have worked to give Bonny a sweat for Gor 1 but when nature conspires against you………………!!!!!!

  • Jerry uuuuwiii!!! If there existed a way of rubbing that goal off the memory of anybody who watched it, I would advise you to pursue it. A well-deserved victory courtesy of teamwork. However, going by what I watched Tusker play against Posta Rangers, we need to mend a few stitches in order to overtake them. Nkata fielded his new imports which completely diluted the posta offensive. Our strikers should work on their finishing since most shots veered off target.

    • Is it by coincidence or design that tusker always get penalties..hata jana they got bt missed..somethin is seriously sic!

  • Bonnie, while you were away an apparently easy game against “my tea” Thika made very difficult by one Jagoal. Because of Jagoal’s infulence we keep stifling/ignoring a lot of goalkeeping talent thinking we’re well covered, but are we really! Auchoism was missing in the midfield cum as the game progressed in the 2nd half but our defence was splendid. Jerry?? Agwanda? Kazi kwako Ze Maria.

Even with the “3 stolen points”, K’ogallo is slowly inching up the standings, and will soon overtake the pretenders …. you cannot keep a good team down for long !
Go Gor !, Go Gor !!, Go Gor !!!

who is Gradus ochien’g. kwani how many goalkeepers do we have. I thought Okinda was no. 3 in the pecking order of goalkeeping. Now that Jerry have cost as a cleen sheet that we’ve been keeping since that stupid penalty by brewkenge, what xcuse will he have. Jerry, u’r not a bad jagoal but u must know that keeping a cleansheet is a priority in Gor as the goalkeeping dept is concerned. kudos team K’ogalo for 3 points.

  • Yes we won and yes a win is a win regardless of how. And we are happy. But there is a but. We didnt play our game….especially in the second half. We are supposed to be the samba boys of kenya but honestly Thika played more samba than us and had more possession. Whether that was a deliberate tactix of defending our lead i cant tell. But Ze Maria, where are those one-metre passes and domination of the opponent?. Still we won. Congrats to team.

Thanks God for the win. One thing we need to realize is that the state of the Thika field does not favour teams like Gor. Some of our pitches are so sub-standard, used for Gospel crusades and political rallies. On Jerry , I really feel for him but whoever cares will realize that we scored a similar goal at Mbaraki last year due th the pitch condition as well as keeper timing. Last year Bonnie misjudged at the CECAFA final hen we lost. These things happen everyday in football.
AS someone said our mid disappeared but it’s rare for us to play without Gattuso and Aucho in the same game. As we progress we will have both Kagere and Odula to add the required force. On Agwanda he is a strong forcefull player but not the most skillful and we have to accept that.
All the best as we await KK HomeBoyz over the weekend

    • I think it was a bad day for Jerry but the pitch was terrible as the ball hit the ground first. Something need to be done in order to make play grounds in good level and standard.

Was this a grazing ground or football pitch?

Please Gentlemen and ladies if there is,please lets stop criticizing players please please lets not have a short memory the Jagoal whom we always criticize is the same Man who made a lot of saves when we played tusker and i did not here anyone mentioning that, the same Man saved 4 penalty when we were playing Bitam or feraviaro i cant remember but it was an international march away, the same Man we always quick to critic has capped more that your favorite, the other day for those who watched Germany v Italy game who thought the stars like Ozil can miss the penalty at that crucial time? Jerry has and will always do his best and he has proved it severally,so please i beg though its my own opinion but its a common sense when you give a person moral even when they are down it gives them good leverage to recover very fast,me as Erico Jarae rest my case.

@Erico Jarae, you are right. We are very fast at criticizing. Even Messi missed a penalty when it mattered most. Does that not make him not one of the best? As fans we caused out team three points through chaos are the players , EC, TB not right to criticize us also?
Let’s continue supporting the team and we will be celebrating all these players in November

    • @Erico Jarae, Jerry was not down but the state of the pitch as the ball hit the bumpy ground and such balls are usually very difficult to stop as they change direction too fast. Overally Jerry played very well. However our fans have right to criticize but not to blame the keeper.

    Thank you Jarae.

These things happen in football. Did anyone see how high Bastian Schweinsteiger’s penalty soared?

    • We won on a terrible pitch. Thika players were rough and we were lucky to come out of that stadium with 3points and no injuries. Great team play. No club has the coach and squad we have, with most of the 1st team not playing (Aucho, Gatusso, Walusimbi et al) we still managed to display good football and took our chances. That’s what matters in the game of football.

  • When our striking force was an issue we talked about it so I find nothing wrong about issues being raised about goalkeeping and goalkeepers.

Lets not keep scores or tallies coz every coin has two sides and now is not the time to highlight the “other side” which everyone is aware of.

If its an issue of everyone being given playtime, though that was not the case on Sunday as Bonnie was suspended, then lets see the other keepers.

Wendo (in my view we missed Aucho a bit not Gatusso) and the defense played well and adequately covered our keeper. We are all singing Marcelo, Marcelo, Nondi,Nondi ,Jausenge, Jasuenge, Kahata, Kahata etc that is new players being given a chance and proving themselves.

So I conclude what is good for the goose is good for the gander if you catch my drift.

    • Just to add more important the goalkeeping issues is the mistreatment being meted out on Jausenge.
Surely defenders are going to maim him unless referees apply the law. I spotted at least 2 red card incidences whereby the ‘thicker” defenders deliberately went in with their knees into his back.
EC please get the clips and take it up with KPL/FKF it is quite worrying!

@Dan Original I remember the Obungu howler which really infuriated coach Twahir Muhiddin. It was at Mombasa Municipal stadium and not Mbaraki……..and how we cheered that goal!!! Little did we know that we would be subjected to the same.

As for the Thika stadium surface I have this observation: whenever Efusi plays on the same bumpy pitch and loses to Thika, we cheer, laugh and jeer. No one sympathizes with Ogwang’; yet we are quick to point out the bumpy ground when we lose our rhythm.. How come we managed to outsmart our hosts in the first 20 minutes of the game on their ground which they are supposedly familiar with? Was the ground not bumpy then? Personally I think our undoing was in the midfield where we evidently lacked a playmaker. This is the more reason Crispin Odula should gel quickly and break into the first 11.

Talking of penning deals and renewing contracts, I am left wondering if Ogango Trailer, Dinga, Le Pastre, etc, have penned new deals to extend their contracts in this blog site or have decided to move elsewhere as did the likes of Mwakio, Okoth Jabilo, Pundit, Jasawagongo, Ochigah, The Villager, etc.
