Gor Mahia go down fighting

Gor Mahia lost 3-1 to a more fancied El-Mereikh side in a fast paced international friendly match played at Moi International sports centre Kasarani today. New signing Duncan Makori shook the net in the 22nd minute before the visitors equalised through a clinically taken through pass in the 38th minute. Second half was more entertaining with speed after El-Mereikh brought in  an entire new outfit which gave the young and inexperienced Gor Mahia charges hard time in terms of marking. It was not until 62nd minute when their Nigerian import outpaced Gor Mahia back line to drive home the second goal. The Nigerian became an instant tormentor to the defence earning the visitors a penalty in the 71st minute which was easily slotted home passed Jerim Onyango who otherwise had a good day between the post. El-Mereikh who will be heading to Ethiopia to meet St. Georges in African Champions league will have another build up match against Mathare United on Friday 5th before taking on Sofapaka on Monday 8th then winding up their camping in Kenya with a match against Tusker on Thursday 11th.
Meanwhile their coach confessed that the team they played was a better one compared to the outfit they hammered 5-0 at Nyayo National stadium a year ago. He reiterated that with time its a team to go places.
 Line up-
Gor Mahia – Jerim Onyango, Solomon Nasio(Elisha Ochieno), Eric Masika, Francis Akango(Isaac Okoth), Musa Mohamed,Robert Onyango, Anthony Akumu, Ibrahim Kitawi(Zablon Otieno), Duncan Makori (Brian Osumba), John Kiplangat(George Odhiambo), Kevin Omondi (Baldwin Ngwa).

  • Gor should look at all the departtments which are still weak with an aim of improving the performance before the season kicks off. We have greater confidence that Gor Mahia will go places this season and win KPL. Long live Kogalo.

This was a team that never used to scare Gor Mahia. We would routinely beat these Sudanese teams even in Khartoum

I am pretty sure that those concerned have looked at Gor’s away performance last season. They never won a match. Gideon and Zeddy do soemthing to change that-

Because you have not updated us for quite sometimes now, I urge the executive office not to pick on TICKET MASTERS this season. This guys do not have the Gor-football fan base at heart because they normally take bribes for one to get into the stadium with 50/=. I suggest that the gate charges to be 50/= to allow more fans in than to give it away to gready ticket masters fellows.

Gor should strive to recruit a strong fanbase. It is difficult though, but a coherent base, will guarantee that there is a steady flow of cash and other expenditure requirements. Let us have the old Gor. I remember I was 10 years old in the early 1980s when my late dad took me to watch a Gor Mahia match at the City Stadium. Oh, that was the best moment of my life. I remember the squad from Tairus Omondi to Onyango Jogoo (wuod awendo). There was that team spirit, fans were genuine, few brokers and committed officials. I cry for my Gor Mahia. Makogallo.
