K’Ogalo who lost opening match to Ugandan side KCCA must now win their remaining two Group matches to be assured to progressing in competition

Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia are facing early elimination from Cecafa Kagame Cup after going down 1-0 to Atletico Olympic of Burundi in their second match on Monday.

Gor Mahia had lost opening match to Kampala City Council (KCC) 2-1 and must now win their remaining two Group matches to be assured of progressing in the regional competition.

Alexis Hakizimana scored the all important goal that that now leaves K’Ogalo with a mountain to climb in preliminary matches.

Gor Mahia coach Bobby Williamson admitted afterwards that the team is now facing an up hill task to remain in competition. “We are not out yet but losing two matches in a row is very disappointing.

“We are now forced to wait and see how our Group opponents perform to know our fate. It is not good at all when you have to depend on your opponents to decide your fate in a game of football.”

The Scot made four changes to starting eleven with defender Godfrey Walusimbi, who was sidelined due to illness, being replaced by Kennedy Opiyo, Bruno Charles coming in for Musa Mohammed, George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo going out for Joseph Kariuki and Simon Mburu starting in place of Erick Ochieng’.

Gor Mahia threatened twice in opening 20 minutes with Joseph Kariuki and Dan Sserunkuma coming close but were denied by Atletico goalkeeper Kandolo Akimana.

Sserunkuma and Timothy Otieno kept threatening Atletico but nothing came out of the attacks. Otieno was denied by keeper Akimana in 34th minute after being put through by Sserunkuma.

Atletico’s goal came in 72nd minute when a blunder by Collins ‘Gattuso’ Okoth allowed Hakimana to beat Jerim Onyango with a low shot. Gor Mahia will play Rwandese champions APR on Friday before concluding preliminary fixtures against Telecom of Somalia on Sunday.

The Kenyan side can still advance to quarter-finals if they win their next two matches as three teams will qualify from their group. Meanwhile, former AFC Leopards’ striker Allan Wanga scored as Sudanse side El Merreikh hit Banadir 4-0 in a one-sided contest also played at Nyamirambo Stadium.

Ahmed El Basha, Malim Mohammed Traore and Serge Wawa grabbed the other goals as El Merreikh revived their hopes of progressing having lost opening match to Rwandase side Police.

It was second defeat for Benadir, who as well might have kissed tournament goodbye, having lost 5-0 to Vital ‘O’ of Burundi in opener.

This is unfortunate. Though I have a soft spot for BW I think he should now think seriously and take the HS job and leave someone to inject some new energy and belief into GM for the next 11 matches. We all know that a change is as good as a rest. The truth is that the resources at his disposal are minimal due to financial constraints but we are still good locally. We hope the players have learnt something from this tournament.
In this short run maybe Loga can be contacted to help us retain the TPL trophy

Now I believe it’s lost and I doubt if retaining the league title is possible, we have both scoring and defending problems

  • can EC now approach Loga, Tusker is on our throat and i cant blame the BW he has done his best to teach this boys latest football tactics i.e football of wingbacks like the way arsenal played n dumped man city to win shield cup but apart from musa n walusimbi adapting others have not also the fitness of this boys is wanting, you ask yourself how someone can be tired in just 45 minutes of play. financial constraints is no excuse look at someone after finishing medicine course go for internship for one year without pay. WHAT THIS BOYS DONT KNOW IS THAT WHEN U START PLAYING FOR GOR YOUR U GET NOTICED BY BIG CLUBS

It is a shame we have lost two games but that is past us. we now need to focus on TPL,

I was one of those thinking that we should ask BW to continue till the end of season but after sleeping over these thought i ve realized BW will be best suited to coach national team, i belief Loga knows the current situation afflicting Gor and will not demand higher pecks, the arrival of Loga will rekindle those memories of joyous songs from Gor fans.

Even with loga we do not have the quality in the team and that is the main problem. What we need to address is the financial stability of the team in order to attract good players.with average players the coach can’t do much

  • True, all we need is financial stability. Nothing more nothing less

#6 Jasawagongo is correct. And thats why I blame the EC. They got the club into this financial mess and now 4 months later, they have not done enough to get the club out of financial trouble. The team lost a lot of players in June but did not have the finances to restock.

Financial stability can be addressed by us in the shortrun. What if we akk cintribute something like 500/= bob , This will offer stability till December when we can sort ourselves out.
Otherwise if we think it’s bad now then wait when the league is over. All the players will troop to ingwe or Tusker, then we will be left blaming the coach with a team of overage players for not delivering

We have a bad office, BW is always on n off, Zdravko Logarusic is the man to bail us out. Any local coach will add us more miseries.

  • Someone tell me the real problem with this team.
    I have several questions.
    1. What is the status of the financial problem? How was the issue of KRA resolved?
    2. How much has the club ganared from registration ?
    3. Do we get any money from selling players?
    4. Why is the team not consistent ?

am not going to blame the team because in my opinion they played well but were made to pay for the many missed chances.
to be honest, its now out of our reach….considering how well the other teams are playing.
however I blame the EC for the pedestrian manner in which they have handled our financial situation….which may have been a factor towards our poor performance in rwanda.
alot of ideas of raising cash for the club has been floated and none has been implimented.one begs the question…what does the EC want??maybe that is their leadership style….whatever the case, they need to style up sooner rather than later…the ship is sinking…and sinking fast!!!!

Mimi sisemi kitu apart from restating that fish rots from the top (bloated EC), then spreads to the middle (TB) and finally the whole samaki rots. Some have been hoodwinked by cheap preservatives (e.g Membership drive,Paybill 350100 etc, etc) while those who stuck out their necks have been castigated and even labeled efusi sympathizers.

I call on the likes of James Onjiko (one of the GM branch chairman) to seriously consider the cooperative option as a means of putting GM on a sound and sustainable financial footing. But also be alive to the fact that most potential members will not contribute their hard earned monies to the current office under the current system.
A membership of 5,000 (countrywide) each making a monthly contribution of 500/month will raise kshs.30M annually for our beloved K’galo. Cooperative structures will curb misuse of funds by encouraging transparency and accountability which can never be espoused by EC as long as GM operates as a society.

Loga can sort us out for the remaining league matches and the EC should ensure that the boys are paid and those whose contracts are expiring soon to be committed to new contracts so that no free transfer is done again

Having watched the two matches, my conclusion is that we never recruited well during the June transfer window. Apart from Timothy Otieno, the rest are yet to adopt. Generally the fitness levels and tactical discipline of the team is at its all time low.
A thorough shake up may be necessary at the end of the league.

You elected friends and old folks and a woman who knows no football science. Surely its a bunch of bench warmers. Comee mect election? Go for quality.

Why Cant we form a caretaker committee to manage Gor mahia funds from well wishing fans? Can We meet somewhere register this caretaker committee with the registrar and start soliciting for fund?

George Bwana really covered weaknesses or Mr.Rachier.

The office of Gor Mahia has some funny Ladies that are hardly in the office. From three pm you will hardly find them.

we need to professionalize Gor Mahia.

  • surely there was no way we could perform better in an international tournament while we could not even compete against the likes of gfe100 at home, the sign was on the wall for all to see. wel, my sincere opinion is that we need a new technical bench, the EC are doing well under the current circumstances

The problem is not technical bench. You are a bunch of impatientellows who will take nothing less than success in all situations. Not bad this is Mayienga.
