Gor Mahia lose to Kariobangi Sharks 1-0

Tuyisenge tussles with a Sharks defender

Gor Mahia lost to Kariobangi Shark yet again in what is building towards a disastrous season. It is their second loss of the season after losing the season opener to Bandari.

Additional reporting from futaa.com

Kariobangi Sharks picked up their maiden win over Gor Mahia in the league hence making it three consecutive wins against them after 1-0 victory over reigning Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia in a match staged at the MISC Kasarani on Saturday 29th December.
Opening exchanges

After their disappointment at the continental stage where they were bundled out of the CAF Champions League by Nigerian outfit Lobi Stars, Gor Mahia were off the blocks and got the first chance of the game in the sixth minute when Jacques Tuyisenge freed himself from the Sharks defense but his attempt to set up George Blackberry Odhiambo was stifled by Geoffrey Shiveka.

Despite the brilliant start by Gor Mahia, it was Kariobangi Shark who broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when Patilah Omotto pinged in a long long pass from his own half that found Duke Abuya to connect with a first-time effort to lob the onrushing Boniface Olouch.
Squandered chances

Sharks were lucky not concede in the 38th minute when George Odhiambo’s cross found Ephrem Guikan inside the box but his header was cleared off the line by a last-ditch effort from Nixon Omondi. William Muluya’s charges squandered a golden opportunity to head into the break with a 2-0 advantage in the 44th minute when Omotto again found Mwendwa but the former Mathare United winger decided to track back his run but the danger was averted by Ernest Wendo.

Hassan Oktay had some strong words for his charges at halftime as they prolonged their break by a minute, K’Ogalo immediately were on to the thick of things as Blackberry delivered a free kick that was met by the head of Humphrey Mieno but the 2017 golden glove winner Oyemba was on hand to palm his effort away for a corner.

The game was an end to end affair as Sharks who were looking for the second goal butbwere denied by the quick reflexes of Boniface Olouch when Harrison Mwendwa released Abege through on goal only for his shot to be saved by Olouch.

Gor Mahia were throwing everything at the Sharks defense and tested the resolute department once again at the stroke of the hour mark when Mieno who is rumored to be on the radar of Ethiopian giants St. George let loose of a thunderbolt from outside the 18-yard area but Oyemba was equal to shot to tip it over for a corner.

Substitute Mustapha was unfortunate to go out in the 83rd minute after a collision by Geoffrey Shiveka and on came Ugandan import Erisa Ssekisambu.

William Muluya threw in John Kuol for the match winner Duke Abuya as he aimed to bank the three points in the final 10 minutes of the game. The substitution worked as Sharks held on for their second win of the season as Gor Mahia dropped three points for the second time this season.

Sharks Starting XI: John Oyemba, Michael Bodo, Geoffrey Shiveka, Tom Teka, Nixon Omondi, Patilah Omotto, Duke Abuya (John Koul ), Harrison Mwendwa, Vincent Wasambo (Shapan Oyugi), George Abege, Sydney Lokale ( Sven Yidah).

If the answer to the above is negative, then even Pep Guardiola would not win a match with this squad

The fall of Gor Mahia has officially began……….

You cannot disband a winning team by selling key players and still expect good results.
    More problems ahead…

Gor has useless players. No need to shout and say many things. Do you think when i talk i do it for the sake of it or i have nothing better to do? Mieno yet again puts in a hogwash performance of an old tired 40 year old and Wendo is heavy and stiff as a fool. Boniface Oluoch yet again howlers and blunders in his traditional fashion that is his trademark. No team even if you bring Real Madrid or Man City then put Wendo and Mieno as the central midfield pairing with Oluoch in goal can win anything worth note. We need signings period. A defensive midfielder, Playmaker, top striker and Goalkeeper to arrest our downward decline that begin with 5 games left to the end of last season. I have been with GM through its different tribulations and i know that when i say the team is mediocre and average with lethargic old players who talk dholuo in training thinking they are in their village back home. Coach Oktay is likewise foolish to believe he can get anything out of the same starting 11 that has failed miserably in different competitions both Caf and Local. Better use the other fringe players like Lawrence Juma…Bernard Ondiek…Boniface Omondi and Peter Odhiambo as you wait i battle this useless EC into submission and sign you better players

I agree, the team needs rebuilding. Mieno, Bonny, Blacberry, Guikan, Mustapha should ship out. We proceed with the second team and rebuild in the mid season break

Problem is with the EC, with this Sportpesa sponsorship:-
    1. Why not sign quality players?
2.Why not hire a good coach?

We have no striker of Meddie Kegerre’s calibre….see where he has take Simba SC…..our midfield is wanting…Bonface Oluoch performance in goal is wanting.

Let us disband the EC and technical bench and rebuild the team a fresh…some players need to go.

Surely @ jasego you are being irrational by stating that GM is full of “useless players'” , these are the same players who won the league unbeaten last year, for the first time made it group stages of Confederation, Just because you want to bring a player to GM as an agent and make some chapaa, hakuna haja ya kucal mieno names, why can’t you abuse you midwifed to GM like Guikan.Umeabukizwa na the likes of Jakoyo who are openly biased towards their relatives/friends or where he is reaping something like maybe from AR hence kumdendo na unreasonable titles.By the away who said that GM is only supposed to win thru and thru.

@Levelmind fan…bro I spend time Sana with this team and I know the players too well. Do you think it is wise that every time we lose it is bad luck or okay since football has 3 results? I look at balance of play and individual performance to make assessment that Mieno…Wendo and Oluoch are useless players. Harrison Mwendwa single handedly decimated our midfield like rubbish to give sharks the edge. Even blackberry didn’t play well but those 3 players as long as they are starters in GM hakuna mahali tunaenda. Strikers score if set up by the midfield now tell me which pass any striker was given to score today? Man without those players I sign for GM and for GM benefits hakuna team mungekuwa munapiga kelele ati Mayienga hapa mtaa. GM has only dominated locally because of the edge it had in superb foreigners i got it otherwise it is an average team Kama zingine. The best of local talent resides in K.Sharks Mathare and Bandari. GM has no money to pay me for anything I do for it man so don’t believe I want any agent shit fees from GM other than the happiness and bliss that comes with us winning and getting trophies…

Coach oktay listen well. To succeed in GM have a mind of your own and don’t be fooled into believing some players are untouchable. I know after many advice i have given you and seeing for yourself during matches, you cannot believe Boniface Oluoch deserves to play while Peter Odhiambo is on the bench. Neither can you believe Philemon should stick at fullback 2 while Wendo does Nonsense day in day out in the DMF Role. Pascal can play rightback or Wellington you return Mbish where he belongs. You cannot believe Old Slow Lethargic Mieno is better than young Lawrence Juma or Bernard Ondiek coz of experience he has in his head while his body cant keep up with the Tempo of high intensity football. Coach Oktay kicking water bottles in the dressing room at halftime while shouting useless instructions with wrong players in the pitch can’t and won’t help you. Use players without the tag of first team player or reserve player to get the best out of all. To all ungrateful fools (Not Levelmind fan) but the others in this site some from Siaya County who thrive in attacking me by calling me their mothers names such as an agent getting commision from GM stop your frivolous Nincompoop Nonsense. Let me not here people asking where is Jasego to update us on sijui this and that. Dennis Odhiambo will sign if Aduda follows up on the agreement i have put in place with Sofapaka. I am travelling back to my base to undertake other priority taskings. GM will come good with the right players and attitude and all shall be well…

@ level mind, this coach is operates an old school 4-4-2 british system which was discarded in the 90s. He is clearly sub standard not fit to manage a club worth calling themselves 17 times kenyan champions. Secondly, Not even sure if he will receive his work permit under new matiangi rules. Thirdly, I was at the stadium today sitting to the powers that be ,and the reaction after the defeat was not very pleasant !!!

Bonnie position in GK is political but Does he understand substitution ? Players like berry, guikan, mieno and wendo should have been subsituted and we resort to 4-2-4 or 4-2-3-1 for the better part of the game as sharks were clearly the most intelligent team on the pitch.

Further, Philemon should go back to his usual defensive mid duties, samuel onyango should be tried as a target man. We have been bashing mustafa all year long, but truth be told , i am beginning to believe that this player is being played out of position…his ideal position is either left wing cutting inside and feeding strikers or behind the main striker / attacking mid, where he can be collecting balls from all offensive positions.

No technical nor tactical acumen from this coach. He is average simple !! Ican telll you from where am sitting without any fear of contradiction, the countdown to his exit has began and an imminent defeat in doula in 2 weeks time, will end his short tenure .

As statistics currently stand , The worst coach in history….P5 W2 D0 L3 success rate 40%.

@Jakoyo, I am not in the business of praising or insulting people on this site. But for the first time I say thank you even if what you say may not necessarily be the answer but is the right thinking. Please remember that we hired Mieno of Tusker who by all standards was lethal and speedy but we preferred to play Mieno of GM. Pls, let’s not blame the tool if we don’t know what we want of them. I dare say that our hero Kerr may not have done much technically but he was smart in HR/PR and got the results. Ze Maria- Marcello did a lot of work technically but lacking in PR with mixed results. Same ( useless) players missed silverware in 2016 won the league in 2017 and made it to group stage of CCC in 2018. Most noise made on this site when GM looses a match is made by those who bet. For the pain is real ,- they loose money. For real fans / members, Gor is the club in pain and in glory.

…..and common sense will dictate that we have outplayed in midfield in all our matches this season, why still stick to 2 midfielders ? With the likes shakava who should now move to DM duties under perhaps 3-5-2 system and leave CD to someone else , Why not try something different in training.

@jasego, this same coach you vehemently advocated for is the biggest undoing. How come he doesnt see the obvious ? Gor need a cleotus chama or rainford kalaba type of a midfielder to employ what he keeps talking about ‘ high tempo ‘ …….. NOT mieno or wendo. So clearly he is not playing to our strength – basic rule.

As for bonnie, as mentioned earlier, i cannot comment, his over stay at the club is purely political and has nothing to do with merit.

We do not use Chinese phones out of choice but because that is what we can afford!!! Does that make us less important in matters Gor Mahia??? I doubt!!! Jasego, my friend you’re steadily and progressively undoing the good works that you have done for Gor Mahia in the past if you latest outburst is anything to go by. You have become easily irritable and gone too personal and all this will not make Gor Mahia great again!!! If God has bestowed on you wisdom and health to serve others, do it quietly not expecting everyone to be happy for or with you!!! I beg to differ with those now speaking from both sides of their mouths!!!! Gor is for all of us as no one has the right to invite, admit or expel anybody from the club. Jasego, please just serve Gor Mahia in whatever capacity you can because it’s your love for the club that drives you to do it. I believe if you’re an elected official of Gor Mahia then you know how and where to direct your frustrations and anger. But as a presumed agent, you do not have the right to abuse our players, local or foreign. ” Do not paint me bad for you to look good” It doesn’t work like that my friend!!! Personality cult will one day finish us jokanyanam!!!! Awacho Ayueyo!!! Any one who does not have wisdom let him ask God to give him. The good book reminds us thus!!!!s
