Gor Mahia on revenge mission against Bandari

Gor Mahia have won the Supercup far more times than any other team. This goes back to the inaugural supercup which was held in 1991 and Gor Mahia beat Rivatex 2-0 in an entertaining match at Kasarani.

However, the last time Gor Mahia met Bandari in the Super cup was in 2016 at Mbaraki sports club. On that occasion, Bandari ran away winners by a score of 1-0 in what was then known as the DSTV Super cup. Gor Mahia had been reduced to 10 men after Harun Shakava was sent off for a rash challenge. Up to that moment, Gor Mahia had dominated the match. Bandari capitalized on the extra man by scoring late.

Also, it was Bandari who eliminated Gor Mahia from the 2018-2019 Sportpesa cup on their way to winning it. Thus Gor Mahia should be highly motivated.

Skipper Kenneth Muguna is well aware of the tall order ahead.

Bandari have been together for quite some time, their bond is stronger and they know each other well. It is going to make this game even harder because they also want to start the domestic season better. However, it is not an excuse for us not winning, we are Gor Mahia and we aim at winning any competition we are taking part in. ” said Muguna to goal.com

It will be Muguna’s first appearance at home as captain. It will be coach Steve Polack’s first match at home. And its an opportunity for Gor Mahia fans to watch their new signings.

“Yes, we have made several signings but it does not mean it changes our character, it has made us even stronger.” concluded Muguna.

The match will be played on Sunday at Machakos.

@Jssego, is there a chance of our late-entry players being legible for the CAF matches before the group stages?

    • Dan we will seek to have them eligible for the final preliminary match against USM Algiers or Sonidep…It will however depend on our appeal if Caf deems it viable

Matter of stadia most worrying. Can even the handshake do something about Nyayo stadium or the City stadium? What a shame for such major national assets remaining closed for such long times. And the sports leadership are in such deafening silence. And the youth are guilty of silence about such issues.

@Ja Thur gi ji , if Gor had the financial muscle or long-term strategy they could enter into a lease agreement with the Nairobi County Govt. They could then lease the facility and build it up little by little by engaging some corporates.
I am also sure the Patron has the capacity to so something and have Nyayo be completed and City be rebuild

Guys did you see the Bujumbura Stadium where we played the Noyir team last weekend? It cannot even match Nakuru’s Afraha or Kisumu or even Bukhungu. Talk of CAF and double standards.

Back to the question of players registered late with CAF. I think there is some provision to pay a fine for each player. Why don’t we pay fines for those key players? It will be a worthy investment. Dan you always talk of using money to make new money.

Joash already picked a yellow card in Bujumbura. That means we will need Maurice Ojwang’ in the central defence very soon. The blunt attack can also do with the Gormahian and Francis ‘Suarez’ Afriyie. Once we have those three, then reaching the group stages will be a sure bet.

@Jasego,did we sign the Ivorian striker.Checked the team sheet to meet Bandari but he is not even making the substitute bench.

    • Yes we did but he has a hamstring injury

      • Thats why you need to do medicals before signing players. It could be a long term or recurring injury and as such he might not be useful for us
