Gor Mahia overcome Tusker

Gor Mahia will have an upper hand moving into the return leg of the Top8 semifinal match after seeing off their Thursday 2 August opponents Tusker FC by a solitary goal at the MISC Kasarani.

High tempo

The match experienced high tempo through the 90 minutes but it did not lack its controversies as Tusker conceded a penalty and a red card in the first half which turned disastrous for the side.

Evans Anguyo slotted the all-important goal for Gor Mahia in the 36th minute after Tusker defender David Ochieng’ handled the ball in the box from a Rama Salim cross.

Brewers’ lone striker David Mukaisi was 10 minutes later handed the matching orders for a reckless tackle on Gor’s Joseph Pablo Njuguna.

Rama, Sserunkuma

The match started on a high with the dreaded combination of Dan Sserunkuma and Rama Salim running rings past the Tusker defence and causing a scare.

The Brewers however showed maturity and superiority in midfield with Peter Opiyo and Odipo and Odette locked out Gor Mahia.

The first half however left a sour taste in Tusker’s mouth after conceding a penalty and losing their only striker Dennis Mukaisi.

Second leg

The second half was no different as speedy Gor Mahia forwards capitalized on the numerically weak Brewers to struggled to contain Gor.

It was however a story of success as they managed to thwart K’ogalo’s moves turning it to a game of physique a style that earned them three yellow cards.[five]

The hosts [Gor Mahia] appeared still to control the proceedings towards the end of the match but they could not seal their win with a second goal.

The match ended in Gor’s favor after two minutes of added time leaving them as favorites into the return leg on Wednesday 8 August 2012.

  • well done! those tusker guys were up to no good, they had intention of breaking our boys legs and ribs. Iloved the way we played soft ball because we had to keep away injuries coz we are still headed for kpl tittle.
    keep up the good work.

  • SWEET HOME

I am typing away this comment from a tiny and dusty town of Ewuaso in Kajiado country after some days off from work. I have been following live scores on futaa.com and glad Gor Mahia beat Tusker by one goal to nil. Coach Logarusic impressive performance cannot be swept under the carpet. K’Ogalo will go to the return match with their heads high hoping to continue the winning ways.

    TEAM KENYA

I wish to salute Team Kenya, the participants in this year’s London 2012 Olympics even as they prepare to represent Kenya at various displine. As I write, the david dubford and the boxer have been bundled out at both swimming and boxing respectively. However this should not dampen our hopes because the competition is just beginning. we are equally optimistic the medal tally will improve from last year’s medal tally. All thebest ladies and gentlemen.

    FKF ABOURTURN

I wish to laud the decision taken by FKF to overturn their earlier ruling. I do hope the matter should allowed to rest there.

Well done “mboys”! Tusker game plan failed miserably. How can a whole KPL defending champions take on the field with one agenda, to break Kogallo players? I am glad the referee was up to the task. He managed the game pretty well. And the struggle continues. For God and my club Kogallo.

Good, show boyz.I think there is a well calculated scheme by oppossing players/managers to harm and hack our players hence make us loose focus and concentration during the match and also to intimidate our players most of who are small and lack physique eg rama, odhis, abondo, kevo, sserunkuma.
Atudo was lucky to escape, without an 8 match ban,on his lunge on (I think it was, kevo),towards the end of the match. You could see the outrage from our entire bench. It looked even more horrible for those of us,who were watching it from the ‘sofaset branch’,since we could see the replays and also view it from different angles.
Kpl should review tapes of that particular incident with a view of taking actions on the culprit.Since teams don’t have a formula of beating us,neither can they match our ‘come baby come’ brand of football, the only way they can contain us, is to ‘open shoes’on us.
@pareiyo the son of lererue, are you talking about ewuaso kedong?.I once visited friends there long time ago and had a sumptuous meal of nyama choma.

Congrats to our boys for the win. However,i choose to look at things differently.Tusker were technically more superior than us and their passing, especially in midfield was exceptional, even with 10 men.To be honest,we must improve on yesterdays performance if we hope to make it to the finals!!

Yesterday’s was a difficult match that could have gone either way. It should be noted that just before the end of leg 1 of the premier league and into this stage of the second leg the man of the match has always been a Gor Mahia player. However, yesterday’s man of the match was Peter Opiyo. This partially confirms Fred Odhiambo’s comments in post 8.

Sammy Omolo is a good coach and will go places. Tusker is a good side technically though very physical. As a way of gauging our strength we should be playing such tough teams (like Tusker and AFC Leopards) more often. These teams have the ability to stretch us out of our comfort zone and should we consistently overcome them then it will give us confidence that our recovery match is on the right track.

Congratulations boys for winning a tough game.

Kudos to our boys, but the coach should have realised by now that Rama is a good player who can only deliver in soft game but such physical game played by Tusker. Our strikers yesterday feared the pressure of injuries hence putting too much pressure to our midfield. Kudos to Akumu, he braised the occasion. Guys lets support our boys.

Kudos K’galo technical bench and players.
What mattered yesterday was the result and more being able to play our game 4, Tusker didn’t manage to shut us down.
Like I said b4 teams at the bottom half are no match for GM but 2 or 3 teams at the top half are the real challenge & the technical bench needs to evaluate the team against this opposition. One is tusker, another is ulinzi.
Even with 10 players tusker gave us a lot to think about.
That aside remember the same tusker was shown dust in the CECAFA tourney. So we need to start strategizing beyond KPL.
    So my clarion call continues.
    Renew ‘Miguna’ Logarusic’s contract

  • tusker tactic was to provoke gor players and fans to re-act to rough play. thnx it never worked. even if pamzo is a good coach there is only one problem with local coaches, they are not in control. clubs like sofapaka and tusker would really be far but one cannot help noticing the helplessness of the coaches. when push comes into shove these coaches have no teeth on the matters of player control…same weakness kimanzi and others have suffered. but my bone with them is why they end up taking such lousy jobs when they no they are the ones who end up doing as told…maybe its just the survival factor.hakuna kazi siku hizi, can’t blame them so much. LAKINI, gor… gud for you, polish off tusker nxt week then bring on Ulinzi. ULINZI if there is one thng you do not know is the route to kismayu, u will know how to get there in one week tops. wacha hii mambo ya 6 months.

P.S To my fellow K’galo fans.
Please be calm and don’t panic when you see K’galo defenders and Keeper Jerim toying with the ball btw themselves. Don’t shout mbele, wen the boys are playing COME BABY COME soccer. Instead relax and enjoy.

Tusker were really playing very rough with bad intention and our substitution was well calculated and it worked pretty well. If not for Atudo in the Tusker’s defense we could have scored at least 3 goals. We thank God for the victory and do hope come next Thursday (return match) we will continue with our fine run. Sky is the limit.

  • Our game against tusker was realy tough, to be fair Tusker had abetter game their mid is creative strong and fast. Our boys played soft game and that is why they could not pass the tusker defence. One thing Inoticed is that Anguyo has very many risky back passes and Moses Odhiambo form is down. Iwonder where Kevin Master is since he came back from Togo otherwise I’m happy with our winning momentum.
