Gor Mahia players in international duty

Musa Mohamed and Dennis Oliech training this week

There will be a number of Gor Mahia players in action this week as Kenya’s Harambee stars and the Uganda Cranes kick off their 2015 Africa Nations cup qualifications campaigns.

Among the players recalled is goalkeeper Jerim Onyango. The Kogalo captain has been called to the national team several times but has never been able to cement a place in the starting line-up. With Arnold Origi and Duncan Ochieng missing, Jerry Jagoal is likely to be given the nod.

David Owino and Anthony Akumu are first team regulars. Owino is certain to start. But with Inter Milan’s MacDonald Mariga making a return, Akumu will have a fight on his hand if he is to get playing time. Mariga is making a return after a long layoff that saw him miss matches via injury and also by refusing to play under previous coach Francis Kimanzi.

Also called to the team is Musa Mohamed who is also likely to be inserted into the starting line-up thanks to his versatility.

Former Gor Mahia forward Edwin Lavatsa was also called up by Amrouche. Lavatsa when in form can be a perfect foil for Dennis Oliech because if his playmaking and spadework  abilities.

Kenya has been gifted with a much easier qualification path and a perfect opportunity to qualify for the ANC, a tournament they last featured in 2004.

Uganda Cranes

The Cranes face a much tougher task. They play the unpredictable Madagascar. In action for Uganda will be Gor Mahia players Geoffrey Kizito and Dan Sserunkuma.

Uganda have not been at the Africa cup of nations since 1978 and will be desperate to qualify this time around.

The World cup

And on a positive note, Divock Origi who is the nephew of Gor Mahia’s legendary skipper Austin Oduor Origi has been named to the Belgian national squad for the world cup and is poised to be the first player of Kenyan descent to play in the world’s premier football event.

  • Ok…This is crazy!. This Man Divock said that he is glad to represent “his country” in the world cup. What he essentially was saying was that he doesn’t give a damn about Kenya. The sad part is that people here still worship him. Guys, forget about this man and lets cheer our own; the likes of Wanyama, Mariga, Oliech, Olum, Pinchez etc. Let this msaliti go !
