Gor Mahia scramble to renew contracts

All these three players need to be resigned

Having sealed the 2017 Kenya premier league title, Gor Mahia’s next task is to renew the contracts of six key players whose contract expiry is imminent.

The six are captain Musa Mohammed, whose contract lapses on January 15 next year, on-form striker George “Blackberry” Odhiambo, who will be out of a contract by December 31, defender Harun Shakava, whose contract ends on January 14, Rwandan Jacques Tuyisenge (February 1), Godfrey Walusimbi (January 22) and burly midfielder Ernest Wendo (January 1, 2018)

All six are important players whom Kogalo will need if they want to make an impact on the continental scene in 2018. Chairman Ambrose Rachier told the Nation newspaper that they would like to close out this issue by the end of the year.

“We have learned our lessons and this time round we want to do things differently. We have already started negotiations with the players whose contracts are running out,” he said.

“That is however a great challenge to us because it requires a huge amount of money in terms of sign-on fees and salaries for the players.

“I’d like us to settle this matter with the players before the end of this year so that we can have everyone registered for the Caf competition, as opposed to previous years where some of our best players have had to miss the competition due to late registration,” Rachier said

And according to CEO Ludovick Aduda, Tuyisenge is being pursued by Rwanda APR while Walusimbi is being pursued by Orlando Pirates of South Africa.

“This are our valuable players who we cannot afford to lose and are working round the clock to have them agree new contracts,” Aduda said. “We already have had preliminary talks with Tuyisenge and he is showing positive signs of staying with the club and should engage Walusimbi who returns to the country at the weekend and we believes we will convince the two to stay,” he said to the Nation.

Excom, please renew these contracts before the end of November 2017. These lads have made us happy and I hope with proper preparations, we can do well in CAF champions league competition.

We return all the glory to the Almighty God for having given us victories after victories in the KPL. The Almighty God has indeed crowned Gor Mahia with KPL championship and this is the main reason we have returned to thank him and return all the glory and honour to him for this great achievement.

Finally I sincerely thank the team led by Wakili Ambrose Rachier, Coach Kerr, players, technical bench members, Excom, sponsors and fans for this great achievement. May god bless you all.

Personally, I don’t mind loosing all this 6 players. We have talent all over east africa that are eager to wear the jersey.

This club has shown over the years that nobody is bigger than kogallo brand….

If anybody leaves on good faith and to greener pastures then it’s kudos to Gor. Some of these players have served us faithfully and we should not pull hairs just because they got better prospects. But all in all we should strive to maintain them

Exactly, but let’s not drain out our resources for these 6 much appreciated stars.EC veterans, rather slow learners given +20 years combined experience, more importantly don’t forget the other 20 or so players & TB, plus upcoming CAF commitments. Equal effort and resources should be spent looking for able and talented replacements, if GMFC can’t meet their demands, to be vetted and approved by Ker.For me, though we with can’t compete with the likes of Orlando Pirates in salaries, that’s like entering a shitting competition with an elephant, it does not mean we can’t get similar/good talent in Kenya, CECAFA or even Africa. Lastly CAF is serious business so to attract & retain serious talents EC must review players’ salaries to an average of 150k per month per player. Otherwise it will be usual local business in 2018. P.S am sure not all 6 may leave.

Yes, I concur because if EC has money to “build a stadium” from scratch, then contracting players is well within their grasp. If not something is amiss, someone is being opaque as usual. Is priority winning locally and in CAF or building a stadium and indebting the club for the next 100 years? By the way how many millions will AR’s stadium cost-100,250,500 or more? In Kenya even just renovating stadiums gobble up more then kes.500M. Bottom line,is this just the undeclared gate collections being recycled?

  • Its a fact of any Professional life that if a better prospect comes along , it will be pursued irrespective of how attached to a situation , Barcelona has never been a selling club but then PSG came along and Neymar was gone .
That being the case , how prepared are we when we are armed with the knowledgeof aplayers contract coming to an end with likelihood of non renewal .
We need to see a system in place that iscontingent of such a happening , its the capacity to anticipate and avoid such situations that distinguishes a pro active EC from a Reactive one and on this the EC falls in the latter category.
Lets have a system in place that allows a clear transition and replacements in the club , we used to have it before when we were not as sophisticated as we are now .

Those that love Gor Mahia will surely apply the objective reasoning of Teddy of Sofaset branch Entebe. But if you belong to the Jakoyo Group you will never see any objectivity in renewing the almost elapsing contracts. I choose the former.
