Gor Mahia set to clash with Chemelil

Gor Mahia will resume their 2016 Kenya Premier League campaign on Saturday when they take on Chemelil Sugar at Nyayo stadium. It goes without saying that Gor Mahia have been below par since the month of August. Three successive scoreless draws against SoNy Sugar, Posta Rangers and Bandari. This was followed by a loss to Nzoia United in the GoTV shield that put Gor Mahia’s hopes of playing continental football in 2017 in jeopardy.

The defence and goalkeeping departments will not be a problem especially if Ze Maria and assistant coach Mathew Ottamax have buried the hatchet. However attacking wingbacks which has been a useful tool in the Gor Mahia arsenal with Nizigiyimana and Eric Ouma has been missing of late. The midfield has been problematic and  Ze maria cannot seem to bury the hatchet with Collins Okoth. And with midfield not creating chances, the attack has been moribund. Most troubling has been the blunt attack. The forwardline combination of Kagere and Tuyisenge has been so dysfunctional that neither one can score. But Coach Ze Maria has had almost two weeks in which to work out strategies.

Chemelil coach Francis Baraza who has been known to bad mouth Kogalo is once again bullish about his team’s chances. And as usual, any team that plays against Gor Mahia, brings their best effort.

I’m going to Nairobi for nothing less than three points. Gor Mahia are champions, we respect them but we don’t fear them. I’m going for maximum points,” he said to the Star newspaper.

Baraza s however aware that Gor Mahia is a sleeping giant that can arise at any moment.

Gor Mahia have been playing very well but they have not been lucky. The game will be tough but I have prepared my team well for the match,” he continued

Ze Maria knows that Gor Mahia are in for a difficult match against a Chemelil side that is highly disciplined and has won their last four matches with identical 1-0 wins over Bandari, City Stars, Muhoroni Youth and SoNy Sugar. A starke contrast to Gor Mahia’s poor form of late. Chemelil are now in fourth position.

The last time these two sides met was on February 17.  Gor Mahia were still under coach Frank Nuttall. The match ended scoreless.

Karim Nizigiyimana will not feature against Chemelil because he’s on 5 yellow cards. Perhaps it is good for him to get a well-deserved rest. Let us therefore not crucify the coach for his absence.

I find the deafening silence in K’Ogalo camp very unusual and a cause for anxiety. Is it a media curfew or some conspiracy of silence or simply that there is no significant activity that is worth reporting? Strange that even Ja’Asego is not letting anything out.

All in all people should brace themselves for the worst. I don’t see any significant improvement in our fortunes and for once I think Chemelil will run away with this one. How I wish I am dead wrong on this one.

@BB, its hard with us. I will just put my eyes. I pray Gor shows it’s claws tomorrow. If we win tomorrow, we will get the momentum moving forward and may just defend our title. A loss will the beginning of Gor fighting tooth and nail for Top 8 finish against resurgent teams like Chemelil, W.Stima, Mathare. Good luck is all i can wish my beloved team.

  • zemaria is leting us down the main problem in gor mahia is in midfield he should have foreseen aucho’s move earlier en ithink he is not in good terms with some of the players otherwise zemaria should just go for gor mahia to do well.

Perhaps the best last respect Gor Mahia can pay the late Mzee Siang’a is to begin an endless winning streak today

I pray for a Gor Mahia win. Quick & full recovery to Mafive (i may be wrong but didn’t he have an NHIF cover which now covers dialysis? Hope our EC has covered our players & TB), Thank-you, RIP Coach Sianga.
