Gor Mahia take on SoNy amid uncertainty

Gor Mahia will take on SoNy Sugar of Awendo in a midweek KPL clash that will be played at Awendo Green stadium. For the third time in a row, the match is being played amid a go-slow by players who are protesting non-payment. Reports suggest that the players are protesting non-payment of their salaries for March and April. This scenario is threatening to derail what is a very promising start to the 2015 league campaign as rumours abound that some senior players will be leaving in June.  It is not clear what the club EC is doing to address this situation. There seems to be a lack of determination on their part since many of their previous initiatives like 350100 is no longer being pursued aggressively.

Gor Mahia fans for their part have been doing their part, on occasion raising funds to bolster the player’s morale. The players for their part, despite go-slows, have managed to maintain their focus enough to win 7 games out of 9. Coach Frank Nuttall has been doing his best to keep the team grounded and focused.

“Our main focus is to win the next match. We do not look at the good record we have or the bad record that the opponents have. We take each match at a time and I believe the boys will deliver again Wednesday”, he said to futaa.com

Fans will be hoping that Gor Mahia can maintain the same tempo and pick up 3 points in Awendo.

Gor Mahia will be boosted by the return of Liberian defensive stalwart Dirkir Glay who is coming back from injury.

SoNy who are coached by former Gor Mahia coach Zedekiah Otieno “Zico” for their part will be hoping to make amends for their shambolic performance against AFC Leopards in which they lost 1-5.

“It will be a difficult match, against them (Gor Mahia) because they want to maintain their record. Currently they are ruthless but that does not matter because football is unpredictable. We need good results against them and that makes the game even harder,” ‘ said coach “Zico” to goal.com

“Players are determined to make amends following last week’s result, it was a humiliating defeat, actually the worst in my coaching career, but it is gone now. The fans will be behind us, I am hopeful we will get something from this match.”

Guys, running a team of Gor’s calibre without a sponsor is very difficult. The political dynamics also play a part in that. How else can someone explain how the goodwill from the President did not translate to anything. As much as we have many initiatives the membership deal can make us srlf sustaining if handled well. Unfortunately looks like the EC is over relianton AR for everything. Looks like the disgraced Aduda (CEO) and Omondi (SG) had good ideas for the club. The youth team, bread and chase bank were/are very good ideas

  • In the midst of the thicket, at least it is good to know that only one months salary has not been paid plus the playing allowances. Though slow but I think the ship is slowly but surely beginning to steady up in terms of steady flow of funds. With the bread sponsorship if they can supply and sustain the demand the already existing market has the good will. My thought also is that the office is trying to do their best with the little that they have. I do not think that it makes any one of them to smile to the contrary. The calibre of Gor can not allow anyone to sleep on the job. Am so sorry that they traveled that late and by road. Should Gor actually beat Sony to day, then we might as well begin to see a team that will finish the league unbeaten. What a joy that would be. Even though it is an away game, may the Kogalo fans come out in large numbers and paint the Green Stadium even greener. For our motto is to be there for the team whether home or away.

  • It will take time for GM to get meaniful Sponsorship because Corruption is so deep in the Club, for example the said Bread has been Advertised over the Radio as follows: “IF YOU BUY ONE LOAF OF BREAD KSH.2.00. IS FOR THE CLUB” During the Launching day the share of the Club is Ksh.1.00. so where is the truth. The retail price was ksh.38.00. per Loaf of Bread, in the market its going for Ksh.50.00. per Loaf. (Kata ni Gor wako na wenyewe) sawa tu!!, but should remember that the Players Unit is the Club not the Wenyewe?

Still barren at Sony and it is halftime. The first half has been played in driving rain. Olunga hit the upright in the first minute. The surface is waterlogged but not muddy. No team can string passes. It has affected kogalo more.

    • The game should have started at 2pm due to heavy rains pounding the western Kenya region.

Despite the problems with non payment of salaries and allowances, we are praying for victory.
