Gor Mahia take on Tusker in crunch match

The match will be played in Kisumu

Gor Mahia will be hoping to conclude the 2015 KPL first leg fixtures on a positive note when they take on Tusker FC in Kisumu on Saturday. Gor Mahia will be in high spirits after having beaten Thika United 2-0 on Monday. Tusker for their part, ended a dry spell by beating SoNy Sugar by a similar score. They are currently in sixth place, 14 points behind Gor Mahia.

In Gor Mahia’s line-up will be three players who left Tusker for various reasons. Ali Abondo was deemed surplus to requirements at Tusker. Khalid Aucho opted not to renew his contract and Tusker showed little interest in resigning Boniface Oluoch who looked eager to face his former side.

“First, it is an emotional return. It is always difficult to play against a team which developed you since there is that attachment. However I am in another team which is expecting me to perform well, to the best of my ability and that is what I am going to do, give my best,” Oluoch told goal.com Tuesday.

Oluoch however gave due credit to his defense which has been largely responsible for the run of nine matches without conceding a goal.

“Actually I am not the one who has achieved the fete, this is a team effort. Without good defenders, this would have been impossible to achieve. So it is everybody’s effort which has enabled me not to concede in the last nine matches. It is a record I want to maintain against Tusker, though I know it will not be easy to do it, but I want to make it ten out of ten.

Also facing his former team is Ali Abondo. He is having an excellent season after having been discarded by Tusker. He will be playing against former team-mates which could give Gor Mahia some insights. One of his opponents on Saturday (Jockins Atudo) is a player with whom Abondo played with in secondary school (Otieno Oyoo Secondary), at Sony Sugar in 2007 then again at Tusker in 2007.  Abondo will have a point to prove against his former team. However coach Nuttall will have advised him not to let the emotions of the game get to him and just play according to the game plan.

Tusker coach Francis Kimanzi for his part opted not be drawn into any discussion about his former players.

“They left Tusker and I am happy they are doing well wherever they are. My concern is about my team and the players I have and how I can make them improve,” said the former Mathare United and Sofapaka coach now at the helm of Tusker.

“Players move for various reasons and the one who have left Tusker have excelled elsewhere, some have left other clubs and excelled at Tusker so its something normal and I am happy for every player who is performing. It shows the level of competition in clubs and in the league,” said Kimanzi to supersport.com.

The match will be played in Kisumu where Gor Mahia has received good support of late. The club received a boost when Deputy President William Ruto donated return tickets from Kisumu.

“We are really grateful for what the Deputy President has done to our team. The trip to Kisumu by road at times can be tiresome but our players will be in good shape after avoiding the long journey,” said chairman Ambrose Rachier to the club site.

Politics aside, this is a good gesture from the DP and Gor Mahia is best served by not being aligned to any political party. Gor Mahia should accept assistance from anyone.

Kickoff time is 15:15 on Saturday at Moi stadium.

  • Gor’s defense can be shaky at times (that’s why none of the teams defense players have been called to Harambee). They lack confidence when they play big teams. I predict that Tusker will take advantage of this and beat gor by a score of 1-0 courtesy of a Jesse Were strike.

    • while we agree Jesse Were can strike against the best defense currently in East Africa, Tusker will have to deal with Kagere, Olunga, Abondo, Walusimbi, Aucho, Wafula who can all strike not forgeting our scoring defenders… Ingo ‘wang’ni wachiek’ as some lingua would put it

    • Ingo, if your are support of Tusker or AFC, then you contribution should not be here you realy bored us with insisting that Tusker is going to beat Gor. Wacha sako, if you are Support of Tusker you better write on Tusker webside not here.

@ingo, Bonnie, Shakava snd Musa are in HS squad and Sibumaona in Rwanda team while our other defender is in the Burundi squad. That’s 100% in their respective national teams

  • Thanks Bwana DP WSR for the concrete support. Politics aside i’ve always said we should accept help from any quotas that are willing to help but i’ve always spoken against PR stunts! The president invited our boys for a ‘bash’ or was it lunch at state house when we won the league last season… he was nowhere when we were struggling financially to finish the league… he was nowhere at the begining when we couldnt travel during continental cup despite the fact that we were representing the country… i spoke against that but some guys here said i was playing politics… we dont need breakfast, selfies etc we need real support even if small. This time this is real support.

On a different note i dont think picking Kisumu was a great idea… i have noticed that we dont play well there… on the other hand we are Barcelona in Nairobi… given Tusker is a good side playing them in Nairobi would have been better… all in all i will be at the stadium to support our team as always.. May Were God of the rising sun be with us Amen

      1. People who wail on websites and the streets how they love Gor but cannot buy genuine Gor products. Upto today Gor has never announced that they have run out of stock coz of funs high demands.
      2. People who would rather jump over the gate rather than pay for a match.
      3. People who see politics in everything. The VP is a politician. what were you expecting?
4.People who have damaged The Gor image that sponsors fear associating themselves with Gor.
The match has to go to Kisumu mainly because Gor has a higher chance of making more money than if it is played in Nairobi. In Nairobi Gor will not make more than 1.3 million …and this is not coz of politics.
Gor is not broke because of politicians.

      • yawa Dinga if only cared to read what i wrote…!! i hope ur not insinuating i do all those things.

Anyway a response is in order:
        1. The person Uhuru Kenyatta owes Gor nothing… the president (office) owes Gor service. I’ll tell you for free… if the athletics teams goes to represent the counrty, the govt (headed by the president) has to ensure the team has all resources required.. What makes you feel Gor is any less when playing continental championships????

        2. People would jump the fence??? where is the govt to provide security and ensure that doesnt happen??? oooh sorry ‘the presidency owes Gor nothing’

        3. You seem to be too negative of Gor fans and u claim to love the club??? what irony!!! Gor has good fans and bad just like any society but to hate on all just like that???? why dont you go support a club that has ‘clean’ fans and let Kogallo be because u sound like you are almost ashamed of the club

        4. Stop worshiping the president like the moi days… Gor pays taxes like all other citizens… service from the govt is a right and mind you i have not mentioned hand-outs!!!

Since the Lauch of GOR BIRO BREAD, have heard any news about it, now its about two Months along the line. Nobody is ready put his money where there’s no Transparency.

From there the Chairman has not said anything about the Deal. Please let us not misuses the name HE, on the matter of the Club, how many Clubs are in Kenya? GM is just one of them. Thank you.

@Ingo,all defenses are shaky at times from Barcelona to Chelsea, Bayern Munich to PSG and from QPR to AFC Leopards. All those defenses have leaked in goals. For your information Shakava and Mohammed are in that Squad. Understably you are so pissed off with your team efusi you therefore want to vent you frustrations on Gor. We wont stop to stone the devils goat. We are on a roll. Allow us to savour the moment because times like these are rare. Be afraid because the said the other day that Kogalo has not engaged gears number 4, 5 and 6.Be afraid because Kogalo is the poorest among the 16 teams in KPL(financially) but the most powerful in terms commitment and attitude. Be very afraid, Ingo, because there is a new Center half, an attacking Midfielder(possibly a former Ingwe) and a Striker joining Gor before the end of this month. By the way Loga is joining Tusker. Who will be your Coach in the Second leg…. hahaha Hahaaaaa. Always Firing Coaches. AFC.

  • Ingo I’m tempted to conclude that you don’t understand football, Tusker cannot beat Gor at any level of football, those days are all gone my friend, the kind of football gorMahia is playing can only be described by the likes of Sammy Onyango Jogoo, Abas Magongo, Dr. Shikanda . ok i understand that Jesse were is a good striker but for me no no no no he’s not there yet Were cannot even worry a formidable defense my friend wait and see tomorrow what happens ,watch the space GorMahia gonna beat Tusker 3-1 mark my words

  • Let us not put pressure on the players and the TB as they have done a recommendable job so far. Losing to Tusker tomorrow will not remove us from the helm of the league table but should act as a warning of what we should expect come second round. Tusker has been in KSM for the better part of this week and they have invested in this match. I Have been watching them train and from the look of things it wont be a walk over for K’Ogalo actually expect some fireworks. All said I pray that God gives us the energy to overcome the monster. God Bless K’Ogalo Waraduru e pap ENSURE YOU PAY GATE CHARGES PLS

Its do or die for Kimanzi, rumour has it that he is on his way out.As usual,he will rely on his play maker Kimani and Were. The two have pace and are very skillfull. As a matter of fact if you remember well its kimani who did us damage last time we met,he made a good run on the left flank, beat our defenders and delivered a cross which was converted.Nuttal should look for a way of containing the two.Our defenders should be weary of the counter attacks,Tusker are good at this.

  • Thank you Mr. DP. I think that before you made this gesture, you must have thought about it. As a leader, I think you chose the right thing. You are second in command over a house that is Kenya. You must have expected different reactions that would result because of this gesture. You can either choose to be hurt by the thoughts that are of contrary opinion or the thoughts that are for the opinion. Now that you chose otherwise, if it is within your powers, please help us find a steady sponsor so that we can help to build great Club. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

  • Big thank you Bwana DP Hon. William Samoei Ruto for the good gesture. This will go along way in remembering your great contribution to the club. Keep it up and attend our games too. Ladies and gentlemen, we as a club need support from all corners of the republic and this just reflect the huge fan base our club enjoys. This is why I am in Gor Mahia and will continue to give my support.

We have some dude fans that think that the club belongs only to them or one community and let me remind them when plans for selling shares to the public crystallise, I will be one of the many investors that will buy shares.
