Gor Mahia ties Sofapaka

Sofapaka and Gor Mahia on Monday night played to a barren draw in a KPL match played at Kasarani with both teams ending the day as Culprits of wasted chances. With the draw, Sofapaka move a step upwards to second place on the log with 37 points, seven behind leaders AFC Leopards. The point also moved Gor Mahia to 5th position displacing Thika United with better goal aggregate on 33 points.

Sofapaka goalkeeper Duncan Ochieng was the man of the day frequently denying the rioting Gor Mahia strikers with his spectacular saves.

Gor Mahia had the perfect chance in the 8th minute , Rama Salim from the six yard box failed to finish off a perfect pass from Sserunkuma with his in foot attempt going straight into Duncan Ochieng’s safe hands.

For quarter an hour, action was concentrated in the midfield by both teams with Gor Mahia opting to spring their attempts from the flanks.

Dan Sserunkuma missed another glorious chance in the 27th minute with a diving header that was well saved by experienced Duncan Ochieng. Sserunkuma was well picked in between a bush of Sofapaka defenders with a weighted pass from Moses Odhiambo landing on his head but the final touch lacked power to beat Ochieng.

By the end of the first period, Gor Mahia with their endless attacks had stretched Duncan Ochieng to six saves three of those coming close to breaking the deadlock.

Coach Logarusic pulled out Dan Sserunkuma for Edwin Lavatsa. The U-20 lad had immediate impact in the match with a free kick. Anthony Akumu then landed himself a yellow card when he attempted to sneak in a goal with the support of his hands after keeper Duncan Ochieng failed to deal with a cross from a corner kick.

Bob Mugalia had the best chance for Sofapaka in the 67th minute being picked on the far left by Humphrey Mieno but alone with Jerim Onyango to beat, Mugalia placed wide.

Duncan Ochieng was at it again with his experienced reflex in the 72nd minute blocking Kevin Omondi’s close range rifle.

Substitute Itubu Imbem who came in for a fasting Rama Salim was also denied in spectacular style by the man of the day Duncan Ochieng who powerfully stopped his rifling shot five minutes to the end of the match.

No matter how frequent they attempted to get the elusive goal in the final minutes, Duncan Ochieng was always somewhere behind the ball to deny the Green army maximum points as the match ended 0-0.

“For us these are points dropped and it is disappointing because we lost the first leg match as well. I give a big hand to my defense and goalkeepers for standing strong to deny their top strikers throughout the match. Matches like this one you either win or lose by small margins and it is disappointing that we lost chances. We will take it as a positive and move on to our next assignment.” Sofapaka coach Salim Ali said after the match.

Gor Mahia coach who looked depressed at every lost chance throughout the match simply said his team was not lucky to have scored even after creating so many chances.

That is what football is all about. You dominate , possess ,create chances but unfortunately the lady luck that provides the last killer punch becomes elusive as the clock tickles to the last minute. We live to fight another day. Congrats to the beautiful soccer display and sportsmanship from both teams. Rama, Sserekuma , lavatsa and Kevo you did your best but duncan Ochieng stood tall, timely and composed to deny you the goals and as such he is truly man of the match. Kudos the green army. Next ULINZI wate tusalimia kwa heshima!

  • What a beatifull display!! Despite not winning the fans were impressed and we displayed our appreaciation at the end of the game. I can see the confidence in all the players and the ball controls and confidence even in the midst of opponents. Reminds me of Spain and Barca. It was every cent well spent. No wonder Dancun was the man of the match, We meet again on Sunday and this time we hope the gods of fortune won’t conspire against us

How ironical that the best display in recent years by K’Ogalo turns out to be goalless!

That was 93 minutes of maximum output by each individual Gor Mahia player. Sofapaka must be truly batoto ba mungu for them to have survived what was to be the heaviest defeat in their short history.

This current K’Ogalo team with its tech bench led by Zdravko Ja-Ndhiwa deserves an opportunity to try it out with other big boys of East & Central Africa in regional tournaments. We are simply too good for the domestic front.

  • we thank God for the draw. We shall fight another day as luck was not on our side. I have just realized that our local coaches do not understand football at all. look at the selection of Nandwa, surely we are heading nowhere in football.

What a display? Kogallo is heading somewhere and very far at that. We are now reaping the fruits of patience and allowing the coach to do his job. I no longer hear bloggers asking where is so and so. The coach knows who is fit to play. To my friend Ogango Trailer, I will be in the city and I plan to be at Kasarani on Sunday. You are one man I would love to meet. God willing tukutane. For God and my club Kogallo.

  • forgot to say somethng; i would really prefer if gor matches are played during the weekends. i have nothing personal about weekdays but planning to watch these matches is diff for some of us. why not weekend coz gor is bound to reap maximum in terms of higher number of fans and two it will bring back the family outings that they were i.e. given that the stone-throwers RESIGNED EN MASSE. i just thnk gor will make more money and it’s more convenient to most. an occasional night match is not bad for those who like floodlight matches.

There is no turning back and nobody is off the hook. K’Ogalo still has chance to play the big three at least twice before end of the season. TUSKER have tested the bait, and if all is goes well then we can as well still meet in FKF where as the KPL return leg NI Lazima!

    1. ULINZI super 8 finals first and the KPL return leg in NAIROBI at least TOK KOMWANDA on a weekend yawa! And if fate is for them then FKF again at kichinjio. What a basket full of K’Ogalo showbiz! ULINZI mta weza kweli!

    2. EFUSI FKF hakuna excuse za upizi Kama super 8 poleni sana and then as usual KPL ; but KPL will be sweeter as we destroy your title hopes for good!

    3. Next KPL k’Ogalo VS ULINZI and we take position 4 on goal aggregate after kuwa chapa!

  • Guys we can now see what patience can do but as the coach says we are not there yet. I remember some of us calling him a journey man. One @Eblazing didn’t have very nice words for him. Some of us, including @Kosero were called masters of impunity but that is now all water down the bridge. Let’s pull together in one direction and the sky will be the limit. Two cups are within easy reach, FKF and Top 8 then we struggle for whatever good position God gives us. On Sunday we meet Ulinzi and let’s hope for the best

As at now let me just say its life, many things are learnt the hard way. I still feel we have a very big chance of winning the league itself if anything nothing comes straight and easy.

@ Comrade Omusala Niko MPOLE SHEMEJI ! But how else do I put it if not asking for the likes EFUSI at this time and moment. Recently I tamed Benson Disi and ATTENDANT for the abortive super 8 and it has come to pass. Now i am praying that we have double header with non other than CHINGWE on both KPL and FKF front so that I can gauge the real championship mentality that is in the current re-energized team K’Ogalo.

SHEMEJI Omusala with all the lousy politics of football put aside ,please be informed that BARCA & Madrid always play upto seven games of El Classico within a year and that is what builds the Spanish football. They play in the Spanish super cup “Charity Shield model” as curtain raiser the of cause the La Liga of home and Away, then comes the Kings cup semis home and away and lastly if possible UEFA home and away.

If you jog your mind down the memory lane then you can vividly recall in 1986 when we humbly beat you in Khartoum Sudan 3-2 from 2 goals down courtsey of william obwaka and after the suspension of the then Len Julians and the “Zamalek six” and those were the days when marshal Mulwa used to reign in senior CECAFA Tournaments as the mighty blue&white stripped AFC and Ever green GOR dominated both local and regional football.

Tell MAGELO to style up and stop dreaming of the stone age politics of pulling out teams based on myopic thinking if we wish to raise the stakes , profiles and ranking of our football.

I WANT A DERBY LIKE YESTERDAY and MAY THE LUCKIEST TEAM WIN. It’s a derby.

Why should what Okoth Jabilo posts in gormahia.net be of concern to Omusala?

@Omusala, Okoth Jabilo is blogging within his home tuff and here he is free to use any superlatives as he extols the virtues of his beloved team. I would be concerned if he posted those comments in Efusi.net because after all you don’t walk bare chested at your in-laws’.

I think by now we are clear on who should actually kuwa mpole here. Remember the proverbial camel?

If we realy love this club as we say, lets think of a way of making this club one of the best in africa. We can do it using our numbers as k’ogalo famly. I believe we have numbers within our homeland(kenya) and abroad. lets have Gor Mahia trust fund where all K’ogalo funs can support the club by depositing money. Assuming that we have a total of 10000 comitted funs who are ready to deposit atleast kshs.1000 per month, that will amount to ten million per month and we shall be able to rule afirca .

cont. we should find a way of owning this club before people with big monies grubed the opportunity to grub it from us like they did it in europe. The earlier the better We can rule this region as we did some years back and also africa as barca in europe.

All those teams coached by locals are all there for kenyans to see and make a judgement as much as we would like to give the lads a chance. Keep it up Loga and the boys. MAYIENGA.
