Gor Mahia to play APR of Rwanda

Gor Mahia have been drawn against Rwandan League champions APR in the opening round of the 2020-2021 CAF Champions League. The winner will play against either CR Belouzidad of Algeria or Al Nasr of Libya who are also playing each other in the opening round. Rwanda APR have former Gor Mahia player Jacque Tuyisenge.

Assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo says they will not underrate APR.

“It may seem an easy draw to some extent but the truth is that all teams which won their respective leagues are tough and are all determined to move to the first round. It will be a tough match since they also boast of good players like Tuyisenge who achieved a lot during his time here. We anticipate a tough match,” said Odhiambo.

The opening leg will be in Rwanda during the weekend of November 28.

“We know we have a short time since the league is also just two weeks away. However, we have been training hard. We also have experienced players to help us make a huge step in the competition,” Odhiambo  added.

A much better performance is expected from Gor Mahia this season compared to last year when they were eliminated 6-1 by USM Alger or Algeria and 3-2 by DC Motema Pembe.
