Gor Mahia to play Shabana on Jamhuri day

When the two teams last met, Gor Mahia whitewashed Shabana 6-0

Gor Mahia will be in Kisumu on Jamhuri day to play against newly promoted Shabana FC.  Shabana Chairman Jared Nivaton is excited about the prospect of using this opportunity to market his team to potential fans.

“We want to give our fans an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful game yet show their rivalry and passion for their teams; I am sure this will be a huge one and of course we want to win against Gor,” Nivaton told goal.com

Shabana coach Gilbert Selebwa for his part is eager to use the match to prepare his team for the premier league.

The choice of Kisumu as a venue for this match is ideal for promoting an intra-provincial rivalry.

Nivaton is eager to exact revenge following his sides crushing 6-0 defeat to Gor Mahia in the GoTV shield.

“This could be the time to get our revenge for the poor result we got last time out but the big one is coming next season. Let the fans enjoy this Jamhuri Day treat of football at its best.”

Shabana is the latest team to be promoted to the premier league by hook or by crook. They were given 12 points free while their challengers like league leading West Kenya Sugar and second placed Agro-Chemical were docked points under dubious circumstances. The same scenario played out when Nakuru All Stars were promoted in 2013 and when AFC Leopards were promoted a few years back. Fans easily forget that when AFC were promoted, it was Eldoret Mahakama who had actually won the league but Sam Obingo the then KFF chairman docked them points under dubious circumstances.

However unlike Nakuru All Stars, Shabana are not wasting their opportunity. They have gone on a signing spree seeking experienced players like former Gor Mahia midfielder Andrew Ongwae.

They are also eager to explore other avenues for revenue

“This marks the beginning of the process to reposition corporate that is Shabana FC to ensure it is where it belongs right at the top of the pack. Shabana comes from a community that is so full of life and colour, with a fantastic support of more than one million fans, so they are not just the third force but a serious force to reckon with in Kenyan football.”

Among the avenues Shabana is already pursuing is jersey sales.

This is an area where Gor Mahia can learn from Shabana because it appears Gor Mahiahas forgotten how popular the “Gor Mahia” labeled jerseys were in 2010.

Transfer News

Gor Mahia made what appears to be their first signing of the 2014 season. They have signed AFC Leopards defender Jackson Saleh.  This according to a report on futaa.com

The 25 year old Saleh previously played for Western Stima. He is capable of playing multiple positions in defence. He is a solid tackler, is composed and is a good passer. He was a nominee for defender of the year.  He is a timely replacement for David Owino “Calabar” whom reports suggest is headed to El Merreikh of Sudan.

Other unconfirmed reports suggest that Dan Sserunkuma pocketed a total of Ksh 8 million for his transfer to Simba.

Meanwhile former Gor Mahia defender Eric “PPO” Masika has been axed by AFC Leopards along with 6 other players whom AFC coach Peter de Jongh considered surplus to requirements.

Players come and go so whoever gets greener pastures, like in any other employment is free to leave. The biggest problem is that most of these players leave the club for free (no revenue for the club from the transfer) and that is really very bad. The negativity by some of us fans and the management that the club doesn’t have money to pay salaries is making players insecure and may work against us during this transfer season.

I hope we will get good replacements for whoever leaves.

On the match against Shabana FC, it will not add much value but I think we can get some revenue out of it so it’s not a bad idea.

It’s good for players to look for greener pastures just like we do in our places of work, education, life(love) partners and that makes one even stronger. With Saleh I believe we will have adequate cover for Calabar who might be heading to El Mereikh. Good for him.Now let’s target wisely locally as said Bonnie from Tusker or even Kasaya (though some disagree) and Mapunda is now free after Simba left him out. There are very many good players who just need a fertile environment like that in Gor to thrive. No need pulling hairs for big-name signings.

Now that Kizito is also leaving it’s time to stratch our heads and make the right decisions. Some of these players are leaving for the right reasons. Danny was offered 8m Kshs to do what he used to do at Gor. No team in East Africa can do pay that except El Merekh. That doesn’t mean that we cannot get equally good players for far much less that amount. Maybe Otuoma, the Oduors from both Sony and KCB etc could be our revelation for 2015.

Danny has done his part.Simba and Yanga are much richer than us. It’s a fact. we look for another lethal striker. Traore Koh of Burkina Faso . He wants to come. Check him out on You tube. My take is Khalid Aucho, Ezekiel Otuoma, Michael olunga, Charles Odette, Wycliff Kasaya. If Saleh wants to come he is welcome. He is solid in Defence . What are your suggestions.

Uganda Cranes midfielder Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito has said he is leaving Kenyan League champions Gor Mahia FC.

Before joining Gor Mahia FC, Kizito featured for another Vietnam Premier League side, Saigon Xuan Thanh which was defunct in 2013 League. “I think I have played an important role for Gor Mahia and scored some goals too. It is time to look for a new challenge.”

The other Ugandan players featuring for Gor Mahia include Daniel Sserunkuma, who was league’s top scorer with 16 goals, Godfrey Walusimbi and Arthur Ssemazi.

“huwezi kushindana na ndovu kunya wewe utararuka”

Lo, Kshs.8M is beyond us. That is the entire share for Simba/Yanga in a “Dar derby”.
Simba is willing to pay their collection in a derby as a signing fee.
If its true then good for you “Flava”
If Nutall wants kshs.1M, then too much I say.

Let Gor Mahia identify talent and tie these players to longer term contracts say 2.5-4 years and cash in with 6 months left to go.
K’galo must be providing these players with a platform to move to a higher level.
That’s Gor Mahia’s bargaining chip which they must take advantage of when signing these players.
As highlighted in the previous post these “free” transfers are too much.
Its time EC starts capitalizing on transfers when the “players” need GM.
Am lost for words but surely with such financial muscle how come Simba/Yanga have not made any serious impact on the continental scene.

If we miss Walusimbi, Kizito, Danny and maybe Calabar then we will really have the space for new top-notch players. Apart from the striking area I believe the erst are replaceable. We replaced Viera with Gattuso, Rama with BB, Kenga with Timothy so it means anyone can be replaced though some replacement takes time.
Now that most players want to join us the better for us. Who knows even Kariuki and Ssemanzi might be our revelations for the next year

THis time we can only get local players. I hope they sign Odette, Olunga & Otuoma. Meanwhile GM really need to shore up the finances to compete

We will need to decide whether we want to be ManCity or Chelsea of Kenya finance-wise or we want to be the Dortmund and Atletico or even ManU of the past where average players were made to be stars. I prefer the later, let’s get the average and affordable players and make them stars like we have always done. A player like Olunga can be an overnight star at Gor, so is a player like Odette and so are the many out there.
I am not worries about Kizito, Danny and Malu leaving. They have given their best at Gor and now let’s hope they make the best out of the short span as a top notch player. Afterall there is life after football which is around 35 years when other professionals peak in their careers. Otuoma, Kopany and the rest should now take advantage and progress their careers. All other players in KPL and the region who want exposure, Gor is the place to build their careers
