Gor Mahia transfer news Dec 20

Gor Mahia have completed the signings of two key players: David Ochieng “Cheche” and Francis Kahata.

“It is true we have signed ‘Cheche’ and Kahata. We have been negotiating with both players and I can confirm that the deals are sealed.” said a source to goal.com

The signing of both players will add useful experience. Both have been regular national team players with experience playing in the top tier leagues of Saudi Arabia and Albania respectively. Kahata would add an element of creativity that has been missing from the Gor Mahia midfield since the departure of Moses Odhiambo “Dube”.

Timothy Otieno, the promising Gor Mahia striker who saw very little action in 2015, has joined Posta Rangers on loan.

“He is young and just the kind of player we need. We have embarked on rebuilding a new squad with focus on young players for the future.” said Posta Rangers manager Mike Tonui to goal.com

Otieno was due to join Muhoroni Youth last June but the deal fell through. It is a positive move for Otieno who has shown a lot of promise. But with the likes of Olunga, Blackberry, Kagere and Agwanda ahead of him, he saw very little playing time.

Meanwhile former Gor Mahia midfielder Anthony Akumu, whom Gor Mahia were pursuing has opted to join Zesco United, the Zambian champions.

“He is already one of the best midfielders in the region, and has worked under some of the best coaches in the world including former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah in Khartoum. At Zesco, the coach will develop him further, in a tactical way, plus mentally, and in a few years he could go to South Africa, or TP Mazembe, or even Europe.” said his agent George Bwana to goal.com. Bwana is a former Gor Mahia official who also tok Owino “Calabar” to Zesco.

Akumu thus becomes the third Kenyan to play in the Zambian league next season following Jacob Keli who plays for Nkana Red Devils.

@Jakoyo, it’s a wait and see situation. Currently we only have 8 days to send the names to CAF so we have to move fast. Let’s hope for the best
