Gor Mahia try to hold onto Danny Sserunkuma

Gor Mahia are desperate to keep their lead striker Dan Sserunkuma and have already opened earnest talks with the player.

The Kenyan Premier League champions are also preparing for talks with Paul Kiongera to make his move permanent as his loan deal expired at the start of this month.

Sserunkuma, who is currently with the Uganda Cranes squad playing in the GOtv East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup, had at the end of the season tendered a transfer request to allow him to join Armenian club FC Banants but according to Gor Mahia officials, the 2012 KPL Player of the Year has softened his position and is open to talks after the end of the Challenge Cup.

“Sserunkuma is open to talks. True he had shown intentions to leave but we also want to keep him so we shall sit down with him and see the way forward,” said Gor Mahia deputy secretary general Ronald Ngala.

“He has told us he wants to concentrate on Cecafa first then he will be available for talks and we respect that,” added Ngala.

Ngala said that as the club prepares for the Caf Champions League, they will want to retain all their top players while bringing in new faces to strengthen the squad.

Gor Mahia, meanwhile, is still in hot pursuit of Zambian winger Julius Sitombeko.

with club secretary George Bwana saying they will discuss with the player and his club once the Senior Challenge is over.

Why hold on to a player who has set his eyes on a move elsewhere?

This is business Mr Oswozo Moziek, if we can give him a convincing offer, why not.I am totally for retaining this guy, look in the whole CECAFA there is none like him, none to match him.TB please ensure that the negotiation is full of substance.Retain him and Kiongera in addition to the Zambian and you will take us to the money brackets in the CAF champions competition.

  • Situmbeko is overrated. Please do not sign him. In the middle of next season he may turn out to be ordinary

Why should you wait until the players’ contracts expire and then start looking like fire-fighting unnecessarily? To me these are mind-games. The person in charge of recruitment of players needs to be more pro-active other than being reactive season in-season out. That is how we missed out on Peter (pinchez) Opiyo. I hope I’m not too harsh being being realistic.

Alando you r nt harsh but stating the truth. In addition to Opiyo we av just lost Mudde who has signed 4 Ingwe yet Gor hd started talks with him first. The same happened wt Pinchez. How come we seem to be outdone by Ingwe everytime we compete for the same player? Lastly the sad case of Ivo Mapunda having to beg for a contract renewal through the media. Is Mapunda a player u wnt to lose to another team.God forbid if we lose him to AFC who av already said they r shopping 4 a new keeper!!!

I think officials are mostly interested in electioneering. Thats why there is a lot of talk and no action.

Kiongera’s contract’s nt a priority as he’s nt fitted into GM just like Odera.
How many goals/assists did Kiongera make. Surely he contributed just as much as the youngster Angelo.
Mostly importantly by the time CECAFA & elections r over most targetted talent will have bin signed elsewhere.I only hope is that AR is as usual single handedly keeping tabs behind the scene as i dont think GM will achieve much with current midfield & forwards. But bloated EC will b re-elected & have the last laugh.

  • I totaly agree with those Who say that we r always being beaten by Efusi when it comes to chasing players.Last season when Opiyo was eager to join Gor, somebody underrated opiyo & he decided 2 listen 2 Efusi who regarded him highly & gave him a good offer better than Gor .Even if we want to hold onto Danny, we must be prepared to give him a good offer bcos remember Yanga r in hot persuit of our striker & if we cant value him highly & pay him well then we should be prepared to loose him to big spenders.

  • The Zambia Situmbeko also is good & those who think he is overrated dont know what they r saying. He is a good player who with good coaching from Bobby Williamson can reach his peak in Gor and can command a starting role in the senior Zambian national team.As u can see that Gor Mahia players perticipating in CECAFE r doing great including Akumu who was not at peak in Gor. That shows that our TB is the best in the region. Any player coming to Gor will definitely bcom top player for european clubs .

@ Oluoch & Ja Gor, without any structure and willingness to institutionalize processes you will always be wondering how rumours remain the only hope!

Gor have officially signed two players…Daniel onyango and Joseph kariuki…they are both attacki midfielders with good shooting and offensive mindset. They can definitely score and create goals.

I believe they will add a lot of value in the attacking midfield role if we mould them into finished material like Dan sserenkuma, David owino calabar e.t.c who knew this guys before gor mahia signed them ?

    This is exciting investment!

Hold your horses honorable gentlemen. While I am still waiting 4 a few marquee signings those who have followed the Kenya Premier League will tell u Kariuki n Onyango r quality players.Onyango has even received national team call up a few times.Kariuki is quick on his feet n quite tricky on the ball.Whether they gel n fit is my prayer. N pls someone tell the EC to give Mapunda new contract ASAP.He has proven his mettle over n over again

Unfortunately Ingwe will always beat us because they are ready to break the bank. But let’s remember that they also paid over 1.5m for Ndaisaba from Burundi and the amount for Masika not forgetting Wagalukwa from UG. We paid less or no money and got Rama, Wiper , Oboya and Eric who were instrumental in our title challenge. As for Kariuki and Onyango those are quality players for those who watch non-Gor TPL games but like ‘Simplicity’ says we hope they will fit into GM.Despite Mudde having gone I believe we are still in the race to get the players we deserve. There needs to be caution in going for the ‘big’ names who might come to GM with an ego. Despite performing Danny and Ivo are down-to-earth and are ready to fight for the team even from the bench. Some of the big names will throw tantrums so long as they are not fielded, causing rifts in the dressing room. All the same I believe he office is doing something on the recruitment front.

There is a player called Salah Ibrahim of Sudan who can be a big hit In GM. Please TB check this player out, he is the only player who can replace Serenkuma.
