Gor Mahia vs AFC rivalry reloaded

In many countries, winning the league is every team’s ambition in any season.

The Cup competition rarely wins one any accolades and in Kenya it is no different as winners get no prize money or financial support to take part in the expensive Confederation Cup competition.

With no financial incentive to honour continental fixtures, teams like Mathare United, Sofapaka and Nairobi City Stars have not recovered from the huge investment that they put in to take part in the Confederations Cup.

But this season the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup has taken on a new dimension. It has become the most attractive competition.

After missing out on the league title, the country’s three big teams AFC Leopards, Gor Mahia and Sofapaka will all be looking to make amends in the cup competition.

It starts on Saturday at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani with a derby between arch-rivals Gor Mahia and AFC.

The two teams are still reeling from the disappointment of their last minute failure to clinch the title.

Gor are the most disappointed after coming so close only to be held by Thika United and denied the title on the last day of competition. Winning the competition may be the tonic they need after missing out on the most important competition.

Gor go into today’s fixture as favourites considering that they won the last match against their rivals 2-1 at the same venue.

Leopards must watch out for Dan Sserunkuma, Rama Salim and Kevin Omondi. The three are capable of determining the fate of today’s match.

AFC had at one time more than 10 point lead in the league table but let it go towards the end.

It must be disappointing for them that they have to fight for the Cup competition and are in danger of finishing the season empty-handed after coming so close to being crowned league champions.

  • NOT PERSONAL JUST BUSINESS

Not personal just business. This was the message K’Ogalo seem to be passing to AFC Leopards after beating them 2-1 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani during the semi final of the FKF cup.

The win was a consolation to Gor Mahia who failed to lift the TPL trophy this season after they drew with Thika United at Tok K’Omwanda the previous weekend. Coach Logarusic was caught on camera throwing away his notebook with rage on his way to the dressing room immediately at the final. He let the bird flew away.

The green army as usual was at hand to give the team the moral boost although it’s numbers have surged due to security concerns. I do hope the new elaborate security measures laid down today will assure soccer lovers and the general public. In this case, I commend the Football Kenya Federation, Gor Mahia and supporters for the decision to deal firmly with hooligans.

  • Just wondering if we will be able to raise a team for the finals. Ingwe lived to their promise of handling Rama and Danny.
Thanks bot set of fans for behaving maturely. From what I see is that the biggest security to us are the fans themselves. Do we invite the police to come and watch the game or maintain the peace. You find the gor scouts trying their best to maintain the fans yet the police are hurdled in groups having a chat and maybe waiting to lob teargas

This is my opinion as everyone is entitled to his opinion ,Iam glad that the police ensured that nobody went to the statute of Tom mboya , let us stop this maddness of going to that statute as if it is some god.Let us only believe in God and we shall have what we want. we lost the title because some Gor followers formed an habbit of worshiping that statute before and after Gor matches as if it is that statute of our hero that had been giving as victories. And i know they would have done that if we could have won the title to praise or thank it. One of them did it when Barrack Obama won USA ELECTIONS.
