It makes sense for CECAFA to assist Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia’s participation in the 2015 CECAFA club cup was thrown into confusion because FKF chairman Sam Nyamweya has declined to provide the finances needed to purchase air tickets. This despite an agreement between CECAFA and the individual national federations that indicated that tickets would be provided by the federation. Nyamweya is likely using this as retribution because he blames Gor Mahia and other KPL clubs for the fact that many of his recent financial deals have been canceled.

A report on the KBC website (kbc.co.ke) , states that CECAFA Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said they will find ways to help KO’gallo travel to Tanzania. It makes business sense for CECAFA to facilitate Gor Mahia’s travel to Dar es salaam. To begin with, Gor Mahia will pull crowds. Besides the home teams (Azam and Yanga) , Gor Mahia will have the highest attendance. Many fans plan to travel and there are many Kenyans living in Dar es Salaam already. This will guarantee decent gate receipts for CECAFA.

From a television perspective, Supersport and their advertizers will be eager to have Gor Mahia at the tournament since it will guarantee them a large audience firstly in Kenya but also in places like Uganda where Gor Mahia has a significant fan base. Keep in mind that Gor Mahia is one of the teams with the proudest histories in East Africa. This is the case that chairman Rachier should make to CECAFA chair Nicholas Musonye.  The larger the TV audience, the more money that Supersport makes. And the happier the advertizers will be since their commercials will reach a larger audience.

And finally, having a Kenyan representative at this tournament is of paramount importance to CECAFA. Having the most popular club from Kenya with the most passionate and committed fans is even better.

Further to that, the recent debacle over tickets cannot be blamed on the club. It is a result of the vindictiveness of the FKF chair and possibly lack of communication between CECAFA and FKF. Consider that even Musonye is often at odds with Nyamweya.

Players should show patience

Certain players who have not been receiving playing time appear to be running out of patience due to their lack of playing opportunities. Many of these are players who saw significant action and were often in the starting line-up but this season have been relegated to the bench.

“We don’t feel appreciated. Some of us just train for the sake of it because we know and have been told we cannot play. We are just marking time and looking for an opportunity to go,” a player, who asked not to be named, told goal.com on Thursday.

It is indeed true that this season Nuttall has stuck with the same unit. This is unlike last season where their appeared to be a squad rotation policy. However said players should show patience since Gor Mahia will soon face a backlog of fixtures. Assuming that Gor Mahia goes to Dar es Salaam for the CECAFA cup, when they come back they will face a backlog of KPL fixtures much like last season and will need to play two games a week to catch up. There is also GoTV shield and KPL Top 8 fixtures coming up.

  • First this travel impasse would not have gone viral it was an internal matter
However financially pressed we are ,we could have found away internally
Asking nyamweya to take care of tickets is like hiring hyena to care for our sheep

@JB, that was the agreement and Gor cannot suddenly buy their tickets to DAr even if they had the money yet the FA was supposed to do that

i believe players are selected on merit.look at the current crop of the Gor 1st 11…they are result oriented.who wants to change a winning team?to the players complaining…prove your worth when fielded…or better still, snatch that position from the person you are in direct competition with!!!

  • It doesn’t make sense for any team to pay for the air ticket to CECAFA. How much is the wining Prize?
Gor will have to pay salaries after CECAFA. Where will that money come from?

  • What the officials of Gor Mahia are doing is noble but we need a lasting solutions to the financial issues. The welfare society to be streamlined so that members are able to contribute monthly subscriptions, semi-annually or even annually. We need to translate the support base reflected in the stadiums into substantial financial contributions by whichever desirable means. Market the same vigorously.

  • The transfer season just ended recently. So why didn’t they move then? I believe these players were the recent first eleven of the Gor team and are now being benched. Every team has players who hardly make the team. The best thing they would have done was to move on. Gor should also get rid of such players who are being paid to sit on the bench. Currently Gor does not have an effective strike force to replace Siboumana, Nzigimana, Olunga et Kagere, the addition of Agwanda however has brought in some punch and i’m sure we expect him to deliver. But until then the substitutes have only been there to fill in the numbers. These players are trying to force the hand of the coach to get playing time. I think Gor has taken a turn for the better where results is seen as the primary target…days when players could take into the field simply coz they had godfathers in the bench or EC are gone. Circumstances have also changed alot. Unlike the squad of 87′ which literary were playing for free nowadays players are being paid hefty sums. The coach alone is getting more cash than most Kenyan executives. The fans on the other hand demand results. Are these players really serious? Pls let your performance bail you out. I congratulate Logarusic for dismantling this wenye Gor attitude. Nuttal keep it up. Long story short, these players have sensed that the club might actually release them come the next window.

  • Well its good to ask for playing time but when you are given that playing time you need, do you prove your worthwhile, like the Match between GM and Chemelil, Black Berry waisted two open chances! Olunga could have score the Fifth goal but he desided to pass the Ball to BB who in turn waisted the chance, the other chance Wafula brought in cross that one just need to head in the Net but wapi! . I did suggest that some Players should be given out on Loan so that they can get more playing time. You must stick with the Squade that gives you better results, not just amire playing time?. Mr. Chairman make sure that GM participated in CECAFA FULLSTOP!!!

Meanwhile, the boys are on a go slow

K’Ogalo players hold a meeting to ponder next move after the management failed to clear their bonuses and salaries accruing to millions of shillings
Despite Gor Mahia’s seamless run in Kenyan Premier League which is unmatched by any side, Goal can reveal that players are contemplating staging a go-slow on Friday citing unpaid bonuses for thirteen matches.
Players held a meeting to discuss their situation which includes payments of salaries in installments despite huge turnout by the fans during the club’s home matches which generates an average income of Sh1.2 million per match.
A source intimated to Goal that all is not at K’Ogalo. “We are not happy with what the management is doing to us, we have not been paid our bonuses. They owe us thirteen matches’ bonus and we do not know when they are going to pay us. We have not yet decided which step we will take, but I think a go-slow will work. We might as well decide not honor Cecafa until we are sorted.”
When reached for comment, club’s assistant Secretary General Ronald Ngala acknowledged that the team owes players some money but a solution will be reached. “It is true we have not paid them some bonuses, but we are working on that and soon we will settle it. And as for their salaries, we have not been paying them in full since we lost our sponsor, we usually pay them in two installments, and they can tell you that.
“I think someone within is trying to incite players to stage a go slow, but we will surely get a solution on this matter.”

@John, running a team of Gor status is not as easy as you think. Someone is actually bankrolling the team from their pocket. Gate collection and supersport money cannot run the club. As much as the officials at time fail you just need to look at ingwe and know that in Gor we are lucky not to have gone that way though it doesn’t meant that we cannot

The only thing i have seen that i can comment on, are the complaining players,Thanks to the foreign players who have really raised the bar and standards of competition in the team….our current squad specifically the first eleven and the ones making it to the bench are the best and even the coach cant risk tampering with them.why couldn’t they ask for release in june the way oluoch did and he went to Muhoroni..

  • Offcourse all has NOT been well at KPL teams from the beginning of the year SO I AM NOT SURPRISED THAT GOR MAHIA MIGHT NOT HONOUR CECAFA nor players are planning a go-slow!!

Sofapaka is worse, Efusi is in crisis and other teams are simply living from hand to mouth.

As fans let us just do what we always do …….financial support.

I hope the players said to be contemplating leaving Gor Mahia have discussed their predicament with the technical bench. If their only way out to finding playing time is to move out of GM so be it. We cannot hold onto a player whose belief system, talent and self confidence demands that he finds a Club where he can command first team. Good luck to them all. A point to ponder for the technical bench: please ensure that you give your substitutes a run out of at least 10 mins in real match situations especially when the opponents have been subdued. This will help in growing, developing, maintaining and improving their self confidence. It is our failure to expose many of our substitutes to real match situations that has contributed greatly to their loss of form. Thank you.

Whoever the players are, at least they have aired their thoughts. The only challenge that they must watch against is passing the wrong message to other players and the public who not quiet understand the full situation. However it is rather obvious that they have realized they are not being featured as they would want. They just need to ask themselves why. I only need to say that it is all about Team Work. Consistency is a component that is crucial and when established, it does not need to be interfered with. With the competitions that Gor finds itself in, it is crucial especially the international matches. We may not win the regional or continental trophies but we need to make an impact. This requires a team that has jelled together over a period of time. But I also want to say that it is unfair for comments to be expressed just immediately after the transfer window. May be they could have taken advantage of the moment. Finally, they have an option, fight and earn the playing time.

    • This complains of lack of play is not new even in times of loga we used to here these. I think they ve failed to proof themselves u cant force a donkey to a steep ground. U see how this so called trustees sabotaged afc n loga had to release them n get level headed players that was end of strikes at afc. I request them to mutually terminate their contracts n go for trials in uganda n tanzania coz transfer has just opened. No trial n error in kogallo

I dare say here, DONT attack players here that way, in any work place people air their dissatisfaction(picketing) all the time. They are never belittled the way we are doing here, its not fair. For those who care to recall the term “jatugo atuga”, you know what it meant to some of our best players of that time. And when someone even name individuals here, that is the epitome of carelessness and which can have serious morale ramifications on the team generally. For God’s sake and for the sake of my team please all of us lets weigh carefully what we say on a free blog site as this.

    • I agree, these guyz have done us proud. We should not be at al negative. Each one of them want to contribute to he success which is very visible and envied. They may not be the very once in the pitch to deliver the outcome but surely at practice the push the first eleven to perform over the top.

the coach should balance between team success and individual player development. We can do with a one nil outcome that leave 90% of the players happy than a 3 nil that leave only 50% happy

  • Those saying that these players are not doing enough or have failed to prove themselves have very short memory. They are the same guys you were praising day and night. We must remember that a match can only accommodate 14 players yet we have a squad of almost 30 players. Secondly, the coach must not balance between player’s personal ambition and results. What we want is result even if it means playing the same players (ofcourse without burning them out). The same noise makers are about to say Kagere should be benched coz he is not scoring. Earlier during the season the fed us with crap that Olunga is not Gor material. Now they have changed tune. They also called our coach “mere fitness trainer” Now they are talking as if they share the same house with the coach!! People must criticize objectively. I am sure those players on the bench would have done well as well given playing time. The unfortunate bit is that only 14 can be accommodated per match and changing them would require adjustment to the playing system..

    • Ok ok ok now the coming match let coach field the 2nd eleven players who are complaining against mathare then we sit n see results. If by saying the truth is what will make others be mad about our comments so be it. No wonder even the gor officials are taking advantage to milk down gormahia coz they are not obliged to be accountable to anyone. Coz many bloggers are supporting looting by gor officials. If you think financials mess in gor will normalize one day u are cheating yourself hata kama gor office is connected with a pipe to CBK they will drain down everything to their pockets. I have now become a student of philosophy “gor mahia fans to flock the stadium pay gate collection, watch match on supersport if you cannot attend stadium, buy gor bread n mambo ya accountability leave to gor office EVEN if players are not should be non business to gor fans”

City Stars secure Sh81m German firm sponsorship
    10 Jul 2015 01:12:38

City Stars have announced a Sh81 million three-year sponsorship deal with sports related German company PM International AG.

The partnership was launched on Friday at City Stars’s World Hope Centre in Kawangware, Nairobi in the presence of Football Kenya Federation chairman Sam Nyamweya, Kenyan Premier League chairman Ambrose Rachier and league Chief Executive Officer Jack Oguda.

A delighted City Stars chairman Peter Jabuya lauded the partnership saying it would be a turning point for both the club and the football community at large.

“The club has gone through very tough times for the last three years and this has really taken a toll on the players. This is, however, a real turning point for us and it gives me great joy to have landed such a lucrative deal,” Jabuya said. Struggling City Stars are currently placed second from last on the 16-team Premiership table with 13 points from 17 matches.

“Let it not be said that we did not seek local solutions, we did. Help has however come from outside and we appreciate it even more,” the City Stars boss added.

In addition a monthly Sh2.2 million grant to City Stars, PM International AG will also provide high quality nutritional supplements worth Sh1 million every three month to the Nairobi-based club. The German firm will also subsidize City Stars air travel tickets by up to 40 per cent.

PM International AG is a German-based private company that specializes in direct marketing and distribution of nutritional supplements, cosmetics and sports attire.

Gor Mahia’s defense reminds me of Mitchel Salgado (Karim Nzigiyimana), Fernando Hiero (Harun Shakava) and Roberto Carlos (Abouba Sibomana). Without begrudging the other departments, this department has been integral in Gor Mahia’s success this season.

The two fullbacks (Mitchel Salgado and Roberto Carlos) are the major supply lines to Gor Mahia’s AMOK (Abondo/Agwanda, Microsoft Olunga and Kagere) strike force. Mathare United know this. I have learnt from reliable sources that Mathare United will therefore seek to cut off the supply lines as a way of neutralizing the AMOK system in today’s clash. Whether this strategy will work or not for Mathare remains to be seen although it is a very sensible strategy. Frank Nuttal and Sir Bobby Rateng’ wuod Ogolla please take note.
