After expressing his interest to play in the local league, former Simba SC midfielder Jerry Santos is now a likely target for KPL sides Gor Mahia and Tusker. The player has been training with the Kenyan CAF Confederations representatives Gor Mahia at the club’s training base at the City stadium in Nairobi.

Reached for comment on the developing story, Gor Mahia’s secretary general George Bwana said,

“Santos is a great player , an admirable midfielder capable of engineering team to success. He was a key player at Simba last season, why not, if he is available he is welcome, but only after the recommendation from our technical bench. I understand he has been training with us and the team coach has been watching him. So if he is willing to play locally we are also willing to engage him in talks though we have already presented our list to CAF.” Said Bwana.

“We are targeting to bag three titles this season locally and his services can be of great value.” Added Bwanah.

Sources also reveal that Tusker FC, Santos former club, is willing to get their former captain back in the fold.

  • Interesting and even tempting. Must be putting the coach in a tough position in what decision to make, Since we know Jerry will still go for a pro contract outside we can give him a 1 year contract to keep in shape, assist us in the numerous games we will be playing and I’m sure we will not regret. The fact that he has chosen to train with us and not Tusker is also an indicator on where his heart is. The ball is now in Awono’s court. One big question, Will we be able to pay all these players?

  • kweli dan,mid yetu imejaa tu sana unless he can switch to central defence kama anguyo, but he will be a good addition, lastly we should not be used a soft landing spot when things go awry for this ‘pros’ then mambo yao ikiiva wana hepa tena. technial bench be careful, just look at kisuya now?

Honestly Gor does NOT need more players. Not for now at least. Soon, the Gor way, fans will be asking where Moses Odhis is? Where is Rama? Where is Gattuso? forgetting that at any one time you can only have 11 players. Others will be asking for a first 11. Lets have the number of players we can use and give match time. For God and my club Kogallo

  • Jerry Santos is a Good player, yes, but in my opinion I think we are well covered in every position. If Peter Juma from Karuturi is also a defensive Mid-fielder then we do not need Jerry Santos. Lets analyze the squad before making any addition. Anguyo, Gattuso, Teddy, and Peter Juma can all slot in the CDM- central defensive mid-field.Hence I don’t see the need for Jerry. Mr. Speaker Sir, I beg to move this motion, Thank you.

I bet right now,not even MESSI can get a possition at K’ogalo. Please Mr.Jerry, you can just train with GK,but we can not surely afford to pay 40 players, for the sake of our financial security!

The coaches should assess him. If he is better than the defensive midfielders that Kogalo have now then they should sign him. Dont let him go to Tusker where he will make Kogalo regret.
When you are playing continental, you need people with international experience.

  • Well said Joe. If the coach thinks that we need his experience (services) and Admin think we can afford him then why not? Playing continental will mean that we have the depth. Otherwise playing playing in Super 8 on Wednesday, Sato for KPL and then flying out to say Mali will seriously drain the team. But if it doesn’t work out then all the best to him. From what he did in Tz I would pick him but that is a personal feeling.

  • He is now a Tusker player. I believe the decision not to sign was based on serious considerations like financial, team strategy etc amongst other others.

The Kenya Premier League is growing, and soon it will be survival for the fittest. I think we need all those good players we can lay our hands on. Why say our midfield is complete, yet when you watch Gor playing you feel like crying? We surely need Santos so that players fight for positions. This is what I call ‘healthy competition’.
