Joash Onyango dispels rumours

Gor Mahia Vice Captain Joash Onyango has come out to deny rumours that he is headed to KCB

Additional reporting from the Nation

Gor Mahia defender Joash Onyango has blamed “breakdown in communication” for his alleged absence without official leave from the club over the last one week.

Onyango and club captain Kenneth Muguna were last week under fire for failing to attend the team’s training after turning out for Harambee Stars in the friendly match against Mozambique 10 days ago.

“I have not left Gor as some fans have been claiming. I called the team manager to tell him why I was away but he never picked my call. I will be back for training on Wednesday but I am yet to speak to the coach or the team manager,” he told Nation Sport.

CRITICISED

Onyango was castigated by fans who have been claiming that he left the team because of the financial crisis being experienced in the league. He dispelled rumours that he is on the verge of joined KCB, now coached by former Gor assistant coach Zedekiah Otieno.

Onyango said that he respects the decision taken by coach Steve Polack to strip him of the assistant captain’s role.

The Gor Mahia defender was named the 2018/2019 KPL Most Valuable Player in August after guiding the team to its 18th title.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia’s opponents in the Confederation Cup play-off round DC Motema Pembe are expected in the country on Friday ahead of Sunday’s first leg encounter at Kasarani.

“We are continuing with preparations and will be holding a meeting this afternoon to finalise on the logistics. All the match officials and our opponents will arrive on Friday at different times,” said club CEO Lordvick Aduda.

DC Motema Pembe are currently holding a two-day camp in Kigali in readiness for the match.

  1. @ Otieno Eddie you and ADOR may have may have been among the “others” who claim to have helped Philemon with his medical bill and that’s appreciated but Philemon made special mention of Joash, Olunga, Wanyama and not you or ADOR, I wonder why?
As for being a registered member kindly provide concrete/ irrefutable proof that you are one before going down the road.
Omera, Johnny it’s not a matter of understanding English but rather a matter of understanding finances and investment. If Joash put his hard earned money, 3 million as you have elaborately enumerated and keenly monitored, in say a fixed deposit account then he is as broke as if he never received a dime until the fixed deposit matures.
If he says he is broke who are you to cast aspersions? Are his financial advisor or rather why has Joash’s money rattled you so!
Yes you and I are proud and loyal to GMFC but remember neither you or I with all our pride and loyalty take to the field to win matches for GMFC, Joash, Philemon do!
Going 3 months without pay is not a joke on these gallant players yet one has the audacity to nef nef about membership as if only members contribute to the paybill or pay full tickets for matches. Currently GMFC membership is unstructured, ineffective and inefficient and whose to blame, Mugabe, the chairman for the last ten years.

  2. He is coming back on Wednesday so that he can have a chance to play against DC Motema. After that the return game in Congo, he wont have bus fare again

    1. For ones i support Ingo…Joash is very replaceable he has nothing too extra ordinary…after living gor he will never set a foot in harambee starts…kahata today is a perennial bench warmer in Simba watching harambee in viusasa…gor builds players not vice versa

  3. @BB..when someone supports a mediocre team that wins zero year in year out, expect such comments. It’s not their fault… their teams have given them nothing to talk about other than look over the fence and meddle into your neighbors affair!!

      1. How can you look at smoke and nduru coming from your neighbours house while your homestead burnt to the ground years earlier and all cattle scattered with each wife returning to their matrimonial home na watoto wao leaving msee and vijana sleeping kwa nyasi in the unfenced boma? Jenga nyumba ingwe kwanza

  4. Amongst 25players it’s only 3 who can’t afford bus fare… this are the kind of behaviors poisoned the team with last year…But ADOR never disappoints when it comes to discplining players…Olunga was our Superstar back then we we’re dead broke but he was very discplined…kagere and Tuyisenge Thea wasn’t a single day they went to the media to complain about pay… Joash, Muguna..n Maurice should stop Western stima village mentality…

    1. Johny that’s enough. You have said and you have stated. I understand your anger and I am sure they have got the message. The coach in his wisdom, gave the truents a hearing and in view of the weighty matter coming in the weekend, chose to address more pressing matters for now. Do likewise my boy, but remember you are at liberty to revisit.

      1. Barefoot bandit… trust me…we will beat DC montemba pembe on Sunday without Joash…infact I prefer joakim oluoch height and Momanyi… I’ll be there my ticket is ready…Oliech left and now we have Afriye…we are the mighty kogalo

  5. Joash is already caught up with pride. Barely a few months after receiving the coveted price of MVP and Defender of the year, he’s gone broke much faster than those who were never feted. While Christiano Ronaldo and Messi have won world titles repeatedly ours goes berserk with local titles and are not able to perform again.

If his discipline is not checked he will waste away just like those few who came before him.

Let him re-examine himself and meditate so much so that his profession is not thrown to the winds.

  6. If the problem is fare then i wonder how selective matatus are nowadays since in my playing days I would board mathree sare from Jericho to Tok Komwanda and later Umoja to Nyayo. Anyway be as it may I know without motivation of some sort this players will be hard pressed to perform on Sunday so let me see how atleast one months pay can be effected by close of business today or worst case tomorrow…Running GM can even bring down the Empire State Building and make Bill Gates say oromo. Moses Kuria tried bankrolling Mount Kenya United ask him what happened. Otek GI iye oyot gi okoo…An aseuso kila kitu Adak ka winyo

  8. As matters stand it is not GMFC building players but rather the players who are keeping the K’galo flag somewhat flying despite the biting cash crunch and shambolic management.
    1. EC has not paid salaries for 3 months but the players are soldering on,
    2. The players have no guarantee of medical treatment should they be injured but they still take to the field,
    3. The club has no facilities hence ” building players talk is misplaced”.
Instead of ranting & raving about Joash why don’t we direct our anger at EC and ourselves for
    1. Persistent corruption at the gates which denies the club revenue,
    2. Senseless violence during our matches which keeps fans away again denying the club revenue,
    3. Valueless, impotent “registered” membership that can’t hold EC to account in terms of structures or finances (accountability). Instead they tuck their tails between their legs and aim their rubber bullets at fans, who btw contribute more as gate collection in a single match than members contribute through membership in a year or even two years.
So impotent and few are the registered members such that they cannot even manage to call for a SGM.
As things stand being a registered member has no value or effect in determining progress or resolving problems at the club.

  10. It is on the above note that I wish to kindly invite Messr OJomondi to replace me temporarily as SIC so I can go back to relax with my family as he feels the Pekness associated with running a sponsorless Gor Mahia.

  11. Its high time we find a pivot in for midfield, heavy duty and tall,Tobias is small in size though he is good, but on one on one situation he can be outclassed easily,,on the case of discipline, the two players need to be apologetic and focus on the playing unit as their matters of finances are being sorted, they disjoint the team once the leadership starts the go flows, they should not emulate the shemeji behaviours, gor is gor, with or without money, once you put on the jersey weka stress kando,we want results,we will pay bill your salaries and demand the winnings from fkf,do mambo ya fare ni utoto, the two should style up,they acted stupidly,
