From futaa.com

2011 FK Cup champions Gor Mahia FC will be travelling to Tanzania on Monday 15 January to participate in a Dar es Salaam organized tournament.

Gor are set to tussle with Tanzanian soccer giants Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba SC respectively ahead of their CAF Confederations Cup tie against Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique in February.

assessment

Revealing to futaa.com, Gor’s Secretary General George Bwana said that plans are already over and it will only take them six days to prepare before the Dar trip.

-The invitation came at a right time and it will give us an opportunity to gauge our new signings ahead of the tough 2012, Said Bwana.

resumption

-We will resume training on January 9, meaning that will train for less than five days before journeying to Dar, concluded the official.

Gor who finished fourth on the KPL pile last season with 48 points, booked the continental slot after piping Sofapaka FC 1-0 in the finals.

Perfect preparation for Kogalo’s continental onslaught. Good timing as well as our players will know what it is to play in hot and humid environments against very good opposition. Can our officials use this opportunity to scout for a very good right back? Haven’t heard anything in the local market and am very concerned about our ability in this position.

  • weee pod antie any defender can play right ,left or centre back, why r u worried about right back all the time,i was a defender during my playing days and my coach rotated us irrespective of whether you are natural lefty or not, look at Manchester united at the moment, almost their entire back line is injured and do you know their defenders at the moment? carrick and Valencia who r natural midfielders. ko’gallo has enough players we only need to add a lethal finisher to back up lavatsa and we will be OK.

This is a good test against big soccer household names in East Africa. Younger and Simba have equally long history, massive following and unrivalled rich heritage like Kogalo and AFC in kenya.

We support such initiatives to make our team stronger. I also welcome Gor Mahia to visit Voi and other counties’ headquarters in Coast.

  • WHY THIS BWERERE THING?

Kenya’s national football team, Haraambe Stars gained notoriority for forever accepting invitations that are not necessarily strategic in nature and does not meet the preparation objectives. The officials were more motivated by money.

The officials have never bothered to instead plan friendliest here at home with selected teams. I do not GM to follow the same route. We must be prepared to go deep into our pockets and organize friendlies say at city stadium.

Yanga and Simba FC from TZ ofcourse are good teams but I don’t think they are the ones that can be used for build up experience. I support the tour fully and we look forward for positive results at Dar.

This is a good tour if it materializes. Kogalo players need to learn to play against hostile crowds. Here in Kenya there are rarely any hostile crowds. Gone are the days when a visit to Nzoia (Kanduyi) or Bukhungu or even Gusii stadium was pure hell. Yet when they play in the CAF cup, they will have to face hostile crowds.
Plus Kogalo needs to play against teams from different leagues instead of the same ones every day. Yanga and Simba have some high calibre players who will test Kogalo. There is that Ghanaian fellow who plays for Yanga.

Sir Jerry, I agree but rotation shud happen wen ur best for that position is injured or suspended. At the moment we don’t have a best for that position and yet we want to win either the KPL title or all trophies on offer. We have time to sign and we shud not let the chance slip away.

@Pod Antie, if you ask me, I think Solomon Nasio has done quite well in that position. Not unless he is on his way out, I dont think there is any cause to worry. For the sake of having options in case of a suspension or injuries, obviously the more players GM have the merrier. For God and my club Kogallo

with nasio in that position then i dont think we have to be worried.my only worry is the forward line and midfield as we have to score the crucial away goals to go far.pareyio has a valid point when he asks when will we ever organize a proper friendly here in kenya as we are always invited-harambee stars included, while we rarely invite anyone here.

  • i happened to see one of the gor matches….here is my squad which ideally should see GOR win the league in 2012 ;

    1. jerim onyango
    2. solomon nasio
    3. Juma
    4. Owino /Masika
    5. Anguyo
    6.collins okoth
    7.Moses otieno
    8.rama salim
    9.meddie kagere ( incoming)
    10.demonde selenge
    11. kevin omondi

subs ; dan makori , kevin ochieng , antony okumu , chris wekesa , musa mohammed, ivy mwapunda , moses odhiambo.

kama jina aiko hapa, then may be those gor players should consider their future at the club.

Jakoyo i dont agree with your line up remember some players shine elsewhere but not able to make any impact in gor. This team has a coach and lets not do his work. Am even surprised u still have MAsika’s name in your data in 2012.

  • Gor Mahia’s quest for international glory could be boosted by the arrival of Rwandese Meddie Kagere. The highly rated international striker scored a brace during the 2011 Cecafa finals for Rwanda against Uganda and was overall joint top scorer in the tournament. Can someone confirm if this is true… this will be agreat move.

Albert Kosero (Sofaset Branch Kampala), Wuonpap, Mwakio, Jasawagongo and other dignified Gor Mahia fans: I salute you all, happy new year!!!

Jakoyo’s line up requires a lot of ‘editing’ but i think as Jasawagongo has pointed out we should leave that to mzee Anaba Awono. That line-up has left out the much-talked-about Anthony Otieno ‘Balloteli’. Does he not solve our striking headache?

With Rama and Gattuso in the midfield, Meddie Kagere should be able to see the back of the net quite often.

  • @Jakoyo, as pointed our by Jackowili your line up requires a lot of editing and therapy. Where are Lavasta, Baloteli, Victor Ali Abondo, Hugo, Kitawi etc

As suggested by fellow bloggers, let us leave the task of selecting players to the coach and technical bench staffs. What is expected from fans will be maximum support and this time around let us fill up the Nyayo and any other stadias this year.

Meanwhile I wish all bloggers a happy and prosperous new year. My resolution will be to win KPL and turn the team to professional outfit this year by putting all structures in place.

Technically the club has been of late interested in signing strikers to score goals. But on my assessment last season the team greatest undoing was lack of creative midfield player who could make that incisive pass and think while on the move with the ball. Typically Gor should look for a number 10 so to speak. A midfield player who can turn the game in a spur or create a goal out of nothing. The same player can be used as false number nine or at times he can play right behind the main strikers pulling the team out of a stalement. Having looked at our midfield comprising of Okoth, Kevin, Hajj,Rama shows that we need quality in the engine room. Bring the best machine in the engine room to create the supply line for goals for the strikers to score. Otherwise we shall huff and puff the all seasons. GBwana if you are reading this please discuss with technical bench and get us the feedback.

Emmanuel Owino, Kevin Omondi even Roy Okal can do the work perfectly if they are trained. Let’s leave the work to Janabi and Ken.

I agree there was no creative spark last season. Its one of the reasons they scored very few goals. Poor distribution was a factor. Selenge is very short but they kept trying to play long balls to him. There is a lot of work to do for te technical staff.

Emmanuel Owino your observation is point on. I do believe that from what I have watched Rama do, he is definitely the man you are talking about as our No 10.
