Owusu, Agogo, Lavatsa and Wellington Ochieng released

Gor Mahia have released Kennedy Otieno “Agogo” , Jackson Owusu, Edwin Lavatsa and Wellington Ochieng ahead of the new KPL season.

“I can confirm to you that Wellington [Ochieng] and Edwin [Lavatsa] will not be part of the team in the coming season,” the source told Goal on Saturday. “They have been asked to leave since the club signed players in their positions.” said a source to goal.com

Lavatsa rejoined Gor Mahia mid last season as Gor Mahia tried to shore up the attack following the departure of Yikpe Ghislain and Francis Afiriyie. Fans did not see much of him as the season was cancelled almost as soon as he had rejoined. Lavatsa had his best years with Gor Mahia in 2011 and 2012 when he also earned a place as a regular in the national team. He then left for stint in Algeria before returning to Kenya to join Bandari. With Gor Mahia having signed 4 strikers, it was going to be difficult for Lavatsa to find playing time.

Wellington Ochieng for his part has been injury prone for lengthy periods over the past two seasons. He got injured again in the match against DC Motema Pembe and only made a comeback right before the league was cancelled.

“We have released the four and they will not part of our squad next season. They were good players in our team only that competition was stiff and some of them couldn’t get enough playing time. We wish them all the best in future,” Patrick Odhiambo told Nation Sport.

Polack talking to Owusu

Owusu was signed at the request of coach Polack who coached him at Asante Kotoko. But he made very few appearances again due to the truncated season. The veteran Agogo for his part was signed at the beginning of the season. But with Gor Mahia having signed four strikers, he too is better off seeking playing time at a different team.

Wellington Ochieng has already moved on to farming. Good for him for thinking ahead. Football career only lasts a few years

Wellington still has some legs on him. His soccer carrier isn’t over just yet.
All the best to the released players and wishing them all the best.
