Masika off to AFC Leopards

After a week of speculation, Gor Mahia defender Eric Masika has confirmed that he will be moving to AFC Leopards as soon as Monday after paper works has been completed.

In an exclusive interview with michezoafrika.com, Masika thanked Gor Mahia fans and his teammates and appreciated his time at Gor Mahia.

“I take this opportunity to thank Gor Mahia fans and my teammates for the great contribution they have had on my career. Without them,I would not be where I am.I will always hold them dear to my heart. Football is a profession and sometimes you have to move. I know next season I will feature against Gor Mahia. I promise to give the club and the fans the respect they deserve. I hope to have a great time at my new club-AFC Leopards”

When reached for comments, Gor Mahia Secretary general George Bwana confirmed that AFC had put an official offer and the two sides held talks the whole of Sunday but there was no formal conclusion yet.

“It is true, AFC leopards expressed their interest in one of our key players Eric Masika. We had talks for the better part of Sunday but we not reached a formal agreement’ Said Bwana.

Eric Masika was voted the second best defender in the 2011 Kenyan Premier League after Pascal Ochieng.

We should’nt be losing such a key player to direct challengers for the title!!! What is it that AFC have put on the table that Gor cannot match? This is definitley bad news. Why haven’t we signed Pascal Ochieng atleast in the short run (am not sure of his age)?

Why are we committing the same mistakes every now and again? This is what costed us when we released BlackBerry and Ngwa at once…mistake of the century…and now, here we are again…Oh God help us!

  • There is no problem in releasing Masika. He fought for Kogalo gallantly when he was called upon. If his heart is elsewhere all we can do is wish him luck and thank him for the time and effort he put in for us.

Asante sana Masika, gud luck and watch out for Kogalo next season.

It’s all about money…AFC is paying well so Masika must have been given a good offer….so sad that the “Tuzo sponsorship” did not improve players’ welfare materially….How sad! Wish Masika all the best.

I think personally, and by extention, the whole of Ingwe republic wish to thank GOR a million times for sharpening Masika’s game. Withuot the team, he would not be where he is tactically. At the end of the day, it is competition between the two leading clubs that meakes the KENYAN SOCCER interesting. Thanks Gor.

creative village,i agree with you 100%.We are living in a democracy. If ppo, felt that going to afc leopards would serve him well, good for him.He served us well and whatever it is that lured him to efussi money or otherwise, that was his personal decision.lets’ wish ppo the best, perhaps they can make him ‘commissioner’.
The best we can do,is to move with speed and sign a replacement asap.If the will and cash is there ,we can even pull a fast one on chingwe and go for jonas(paco).
Otherwise mudde would be a an ideal replacement, though naturally a holding midfielder,he can also play very wel at centre back. With money we can get anyone pascal, mandela, mwesigwa anybody.

Fellow bloggers…there is a problem in Gor as we are speaking…the current players feel isolated. I’ve been informed that key to Masika leaving is the fact that some new players e.g Rama have been signed and they are being paid alot of cash compared to existing players hence fueling dissatisfaction in the team. The management is busy paying new players higher salaries…forgetting the likes of Masika who are earning pesa kidogo sana. Now i think Gor shold stick to exploring new talent at grass root level and narturing the same to achive success. Masika has gone no matter what we try to do….with a down payment of Ksh 300K paid to him by AFC….pole kwetu..ameenda.

  • . . . .Masika had asked for salary increment prior to his departure but the office told him to wait a lil’ bit, in the process Ingwe came with a deal that the dude couldn’t resist! Times are hard and now being given 100k per month, Barasa 120k, it was natural that the boy was on his way out! . . .In other news, salary disparity in the team is gonna kill the morale, but we have recalled Lloyd Wahome and Owino of Karuturi has been training with us, we hope for the signing of more players.
… . 3rdly, we need to know the loyalty of some players in Gor Mahia namely: Nasio, M.Otieno(30), Dube and Wekesa. . . .

Pundit you got it spot on. You cant work your heart out (aka PPO) for a meagre 25k per month while players in mediocre teams earn double or triple for lesser effort.

It doesnt make it any better when new players join Kogalo and get obscene salaries while those who have fought for and built the team suffer neglect. For that reason- Lavatsa, Gatuso, Lucky Dube are also on their wait out.

Tutakosa yeye pakubwa. Tunakutakia kila la heri kule.

Pundit and others..i wonder why Guys are surprised, its right and fair to wish PPO the best of luck in their next work stations-:

    1. We ll saw the mind set at the elections the current GM is not about structures but individuals. we are that limited.

    2. Why must players be loyal to us when there is alot of uncertainty? That is if every dawning day a new player is signed (the so called stars) is at high salary and here you are just a loyal conquest on contract.

3.Patriotism or loyalty is not edible..people eat food live in houses and drive cars..the EC must address the salary discrepancy!

    4. I stand to be quoted..GM has always nurtured young players and these stars we are signing will forever remain a fundamental cause of ripples in our team..this is already evident and it came to the fore as soon as ZD signed questionable ‘stars’ last year.TO ME THE SIGNINGS ARE UNNECESSARY AND DESTRUCTIVE WE WILL HAVE TO BEGIN A FRESH AT SOME POINT! YOU WILL SEE.

5.GM already had a good team by the beginning of last season and to me there was and is no need of signing new players..if anything Kagunzi is a top goalie what are all these relegated guys coming to improve in our GM..you will see! Its all confusion.

    6. Kwani what if we fall in the first leg of CAF..to me we should build a team for all time competition not panic buying just because of a continental call.

Fellow bloggers…call this porojo or whatever; here are facts…1) Masika has been given a 300K by AFC to move..2) His salary has been set at 50K at AFC yet he was earning 25K in Gor!!!!..in the same shoes i would have moved…3) the players are dissatisfied and 3 more players will be heading to Tusker/AFC/Ulinzi!!..then we start afresh….taabu kubwa hii!…it’s a case of 1 step forward and 2 backwards for my team Kogalo….HOW SAD!

Kogallo fans will never cease to complain. Sometime it is always nice to leave some stuff to the right people. Towards the end of the just concluded season, almost everyone on this blog was crying for Rama. Now the dude is in the bag, we now hear that we dont need such stars. What exactly do we want? Some of us are still seeing problems in GM yet I thought this ended with firing ZD and holding elections. PPO, I wish you all the best. You will remain my favourite central defender even as you move to Igwe. Football is about money, nothing else. The highest bidder carries the day. All the best bro. For God and my club Kogallo.

If Kogalo did not raise the salary of their most important player and he now wants to leave then they have only themselves to blame. Masika deserved a salary raise after last years performance. You cant have people like Selenga and Odera making twice as much money while they warm the bench.

Either there’s something wrong with the Accounting of funds into Kogalo or the Management are just refusing to pay players, but why? where do they take the money they collect? Simple calculations:

One Home Game for Gor at Nyayo in a month guarantees atleast net of Kes 1.5M in collections.
Say a squad of 30 players earning an average of Kes 40k per month. That equals Kes 1.2M per month for salaries of all players. Now we know they are paying much lower than that average.

Supersport Sponsorship used to guarantee Kes 2.5M per month for Nairobi teams before they doubled overall sponsorship to the league late last year (so this year should be atleast Kes 5M per month to NRB Clubs). Anyway, working with 2.5, Gor now has an average of Kes 4M per month.

From the 2nd half of last season we got a Kes38M 2yr sponsorship from Tuzo (much publicised), that’s Kes 19M per season, that’s Kes 1.5M per month. That takes us to Kes 5.5M per month.

Bloggers, you know i’ve taken the lowest of those figures, esp gate collections. Tell me, why are we not able to pay players (esp key players) a minimum of Kes 100k per month!! How can the best supported club lose players because of salaries when nowadays fans pay to enter the stadium? I can’t remember seeing accounts published anywhere! And why wait until players threaten to leave before we can raise salaries? Could the previous officials have been paying themselves instead of players? Can they new office review players salaries before we experience an exodus?!!?

Unless this mistake is addressed, we are just going to lose the other remaining star players.
