Moses Otieno off to Bandari

This comes as no surprise to anyone. Moses Otieno is leaving for Bandari according to a report posted on futaa.com. Otieno played for Kakamega high and joined Gor Mahia from Tusker . Immediately he joined, he was in scintillating form. He impressed Kogalo fans and soon earned a spot in the starting line-up in 2012.  In the match against AFC Leopards, it was his well taken curve free-kick that was headed home by Moses Odhiambo for the winner.  However he was deployed as defensive midfielder. Whereas he can be good on the ball, his lack of quickness and his lack of solid defending skills can be a liability. Watching the video of Gor Mahia vs Ferroviario in Maputo, one can see how much space he gave the Mozambican whose long range bomb left Jerim Onyango hapless for the third goal.

But since Logarusic became coach, Otieno has found it difficult to get any playing time at all. Matters came to a head in the Top 8 match against Tusker when he was initially named to the starting line-up before Loga changed his mind supposedly because it had rained and Loga wanted to change tactics. Otieno became emotional and at one point refused to take the field when called up as a substitute. Surprisingly however he was not on the list of four players to be dropped. It comes as no surprise however that he is leaving. SoNy Sugar were the other team interested.

Earlier reports also suggested that Kevin Omondi will be attending trials in Bulgaria. No word yet on whom Gor Mahia is signing. As George Bwana says , “The club is keeping their cards close to their chest”. Fans are worried however that this is code words for “We are unable to get the players we want“.

  • As fans all we can do is wait and hope for the best. My only worry is that we have no retention power on players. Whilst during Sianga’s time we were a team known for creating players from school boys now we are career destroyers. At Moses’ age a good coach would have produced one of the best ball players in the country. Itks a pity so many good palyers want to play for gor but in turn it destroys their careers. Examples are Macheda (now a star player and scorer), Kitawi, okal, abondo.ballotieno, makori and the list is endless. Had BBerry not left maybe he would be a frastruted player now. We need to soul search else our dreams might never be realised as a team. What happened to our football phylosophy?

  • okay bring Andrew murunga and many others back to gor mahia…..this club is so wasteful of young and untested players.

This sickness is all the reason why we want james siangaa back at the helm at whatever capacity.
