No More trials at Gor Mahia

Gor Mahia assistant coach John Bobby Ogola says the club will not hold anymore player trials and insists the team is focused on signing several key players that it has already identified.

The club held trials from Friday 23 November to Sunday 25 November, but Bobby has revealed that the club did not select any player from the three-day trials.

“The trials were not well-planned and we did not get the players we were looking for. Many of the players who turned up are young who want to kick-start their career while we are looking for experienced players who will help us in the league as well as continentally,” Ogola said.

“We will therefore not hold any further trials. We are eying some players whom I believe if we succeed in bringing them to the team we will be stronger. We will also drop several players as we aim at maintaining a formidable squad,” he added.

Gor won the Top 8 Tournament, the FKF President’s Cup and finished second in the Tusker Premier League this season, and Ogola says the team wants to do even better next term.

“We will participate in the CAF Confederations Cup and we also want to improve our performance next season and that’s why we are keen on strengthening our squad,” he added.

I agree with you Bobby. There is no point holding trials when in the actual sense you’ve identified the players you want to bring to GM.

so why were we holding the trials in the first place if we had identified the players ? ….typical confusion !!! secondly, why cant we use the trials to identify players for the youth team ? ..where is the strategic direction of this once great, club !!!!!!!!

  • Looking at the commitments the team has, I think it is okay to go for guys who have been at it for some time. However, it is good to have a reservoir from which we can draw. May be there is and I do not know.It would give me peace about our future as a club.I think that the trials must have revealed some good players in the making. It did not yield nothing.

  • @jakoyo, there is no youth team. That’s the sad reality. No team (and I stand to be corrected) in TPL has a youth team. But during the U19 you will see all the teams having a youth team. Maybe as Gor we should identify a loose relationship with a team in the Provincial league e.g. Jericho Allstars or even a school team like Ambira/Mombasa High/Upper Hill etc and partner with them. I can see us not making a formidable selection like last year. I hope I’m wrong

4 once I agree with you Dan.The formation of a youth team in Gor will just be another avenue 4 officials to siphon out cash. But 4get Koops if he can’t handle AFC officials believe me he has no chance in K’galo.I repeat foe the umpteenth time LOGARUSIC HAD A GOOD MIX OF ADMINISTRATIVE / COACHING SKILLS-in fact I think Sir Bob has a better soccer sixth sense. GOR CAN GET A BETTER SOCCER COACH BUT WILL HE BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE INTRIGUES OF THE BLOATED EC.

Trails were ok, maybe they could have unearthed an unknown talent, just coz they didn’t this time is just bad luck.In fact I support such trails in the future since they are more economical.

Stragetic Direction is provided by the EC so ask the EC. If they can let Logarusic go then mimi sisemi kitu.
