The former striker has also advised young players to avoid K’Ogalo like the plague if they want to be successful

Kenya legend Dennis Oliech has advised upcoming players to avoid joining Gor Mahia if they want to grow their football.

The striker, who had a brief stint with the team in 2019 before he was unceremoniously released, has gone on to brand the team as a retirement home for players who have achieved in football.

“Young players who want to grow their football career should avoid Gor Mahia like the plague,” Oliech told Nairobi News.

“Gor Mahia is for players who are seeking fame and on their way to retirement. Personally, I joined Gor Mahia so as not to miss on that fame.”

The 35-year-old striker believes it is better for upcoming players to play elsewhere instead of going for bigger teams where playing time would be hard to come by.

“It is better to earn little money but it paid on time rather than join Gor Mahia where you will be benched and there is no salary,” Oliech continued.

“Once Gor has paid you part of the signing fee to convince you to join the team, it is not easy to be paid other monies.”

The former Harambee Stars forward has also hit out at Kenneth Muguna and Joash Onyango. Oliech says the duo were against his efforts to ensure players are paid and he is surprised by their moves.

While Onyango is expected to complete his move to Tanzania giants Simba SC, Muguna has been linked to Angola’s Petro Atletico.

“I’m surprised Joash and Muguna are leaving Gor Mahia due to non-payment of salaries, yet they were the ones who were against me and [Francis Kahata].

“We fought for our rights then but because the two wanted to be seen as good boys by the management, they were used to fighting us and claimed we were sabotaging the team. I never thought Joash and Muguna would turn against the club.

“I think it is payback time. I’m doing well in life while Kachi is good at Simba. It is their time to feel what we felt then.”

Now I understand why Captain Muguna and his veep Joash at one time went AWOL and eventually want out of our beloved GMFC.

They must have been frustrated as they were caught between an EC full of outright lies about payments and spent forces like Oliech labelling them traitors for issues beyond their mandate/ control.

Why didn’t retiree Oliech raise the matter directly with the EC or the TM since the responsibility of paying players rests with them?
The only other 2 retirees, apart from Oliech, at GMFC squad & office is a GK and Mugabe.

Btw, what does TM Jolawi do?
It seems coach Pollack and now
the captains bear all the brunt of the tensions between office and playing unit.

I wish Muguna and Joash well, as for socialite Oliech spare us the drama.
Your attempt to exploit GMFC failed, so accept and move on.

TM Jolawi shape up or ship out!
Newly elected EC note with the crisis at GMFC you don’t have the luxury of settling in.
Also 50% of the EC were in the previous office and you vied for the office knowing the problems and claimed you had ready solutions but so far new EC seems D.O.A, Dead On Arrival.

That said Oliech’s outburst confirms again the existence of “transactional signings/ transfers” being prevalent at Gor.
    Will anything change?

To the contrary Gor is a springboard for players to join international clubs. By the way Gor make players and not vise vasa. Oliech is a respectable player and should equally respect Gor and the fans. It should be remembered that when Oliech had expired Gor gave him a soft landing pad to retire honourably. Oliech should respect the club. The club make players famous and marketable.

How many players have actually grown their football by playing for Gor? The list is endless….and includes his late brother Steve okumu(rip)

Oliech himself is a failure not worth emulating. He may have had a good career but he is no role model to young players therefore he does have any moral authority to lecture anyone on anything.

Let him continue feasting on sour grapes ? where ever he is since being dumped by Gor. It is not by chance that Gor are where they are in the football circles in the region!!

  • This failure in the name of Oliech should not be in any way engaged. Instead, he should be left to retire in peace.

Oliech is telling the truth and it tastes bitter to fans. The club officials have been mistreating players for 4 decades.

Where is the truth here apart from spewing hatred due to his failures to create wealth and save for his retirement.

He said its better to join a corporate team that offers a lower salary but pays on time and offers insurance cover. Instead of joining a big team like Kogallo that offers a big salary but never pays that salary and doesn’t offer insurance cover.
