Polack still missing, Gor Mahia pursue other options
Gor Mahia coach Steve Polack still has not returned, leaving Gor Mahia in a situation where they might need to start looking for a different coach
Additional reporting from The Nation
The fate of Gor Mahia coach Steven Polack now hangs in the balance after he failed to return to Kenya at the weekend.
Polack left the country on September 12 for Finland for a 10-day holiday but has not returned to assume his coaching duties with the club currently under the tutelage of assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo.
According to Gor Vice Chairman Francis Wasuna, the 58-year-old tactician was expected in the country last Sunday. However, Wasuna told Nation Sport that Polack has not got in touch with the club to explain why he missed his flight.
Wasuna said they have made efforts to reach out to Polack over his situation but refuted claims that they have sacked him.
“Coaches come and go and it is a cycle therefore our fans should not be worried because Gor is a big team that can’t fail to get a coach. After our meeting we will communicate our decision on the fate of Polack. As at now we can’t tell what is wrong but we will decide after hearing from him,” said Polack.
Gor Mahia Secretary General Sam Ochola was also non-committal on whether Polack has left the club referring this reporter to chairman Ambrose Rachier who was not available for comment.
The British coach joined K’Ogalo in August last year replacing Turkish-Cypriot coach Hassan Oktay who left under similar circumstances only to resign from his homeland.
Polack led Gor Mahia to the 2019/20 league title and won the Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) Coach of the Month Award for the months of September, October and February.
Common sense.
Why would you “return” to a job where your salary payments are not guaranteed, past, present and or future.
Salary non payment issues is why GMFC loses coaches and players.
We wasted resources signing 14 new players, if they were indeed paid, at the expense of paying current players & TB.
Let EC look for a new foreigner who will also leave after one year because we can’t afford him.
Bloated squad just eat into resources of performing players & TB but our Chairman is stuck to his old ways no improvement whether with an EC of 4 or 11.
Better still get a local to win the league since with such mediocre planning our chances of progressing in CAF get slimmer with each passing day.
He is negotiating a deal elsewhere. May be time to move on
He is negotiating with Tusker.
Pole. Tusker are / is a profit generating organization. They cannot afford to pay even A third of what Got is paying. It is only a sure way for monthly employment. But in real value we don’t compete with tusker. Go there for free. We won’t miss you. Kenda kabisa.
Isn’t it better to get a less but sure Salary?
You could be there by now. Chon na mapema
Gor Mahia is suffering from a credibility problem.
The club’s agreements and or contracts are not worth the paper they are written on.
You can be promised a salary of kes.100,000 per month but you’ll be lucky to be paid kes.1,000 per month.
Always divide what you as a player or coach signed with the Gor EC by a factor of 100 or 200. That’s what you will actually be paid per month.
this is familiar territory for Gor AKA offcials. They beg nobaaady
1) Expect player go slows to follow very soon.
2) Expect the CEO/ Secretariat to find unscrupulous ways of compensating themselves for their salaries not being paid.
Can the treasurer reveal the true financial position / rot at GMFC e.g how many months players / TB have not been paid?
Polack’s saga is not a case of the coach failing to return but rather of a club unable to pay its players, coaches etc for a considerable period on time.
Call a spade a spade and not a big spoon.
