Polack to decide his future in four weeks

Gor Mahia coach Steve Polack who is reconsidering his position at the club, says he will make a final decision in four weeks time.

Additional reporting from goal.com

Gor Mahia coach Steven Polack has promised to decide his future at the club in the next four weeks.

The Kenyan champions are currently struggling financially and have not paid players and the technical bench for the last four months.

Despite the team sitting at the top of the 17-team Kenyan Premier League (KPL), the British coach has now told Goal he will make a decision in the next four weeks if the conditions at the club do not improve.

“If the situation at the club do not improve in the next four weeks, then I will make up a decision on my future with the club,” Polack told Goal on Saturday.

“For now I am not thinking about my future, I am still committed to the club and would love to be here for as long as I can. I signed a two-year contract when I joined the club and would love to see it through.

“But sometimes the conditions we find the club in are not encouraging and is the reason I want to give myself another four weeks to see if the problems will be solved, if not then I will deeply think about my future.”

Polack joined Gor Mahia at the start of the season, replacing Hassan Oktay.

Gor Mahia will not be involved in the KPL this weekend after their match against promoted Kisumu-All Stars was called off since they have four players in the Harambee Stars squad.

The players are skipper Kenneth Muguna, Joash Onyango, Lawrence Juma and Clifton Miheso. Another match which was called off owing to the same reason is the tie pitting AFC Leopards against Mathare United.

My Take: The club needs to be saved urgently. Rachier can do this by starting a paybill number and showing complete accountability and transparency. A properly run paybill number can raise millions each month.
But for whatever reason, Rachier and other officials are allergic to accountability. So we will continue to lose players and coaches.

The officials must be transparent and accountable to fans who sends their contribution to the paybill number. Accountability must include gate collections and money generated from sale of players. Without that, things will get worse.

With accountability 1m Gor fans through advocacy to pay as little as 100/- will pay over 50 millions of Ksh in less than 2 weeks, this will keep club running as other avenues are sought. By the way what is the meaning of Gor is a Community club?

I think coach will be gone in much less than the four wweks, he is just being polite, he he’s been polite and humble throughout.

If I may ask, what is stopping people from contributing through the Augmentin Fund initiative, still asking for another payment channel? Supporting Sylvester’s proposal, Gor being a community club, somebody just needed to vigorously market the club in our local market places and raising the 1m supporters, why not and at 100 sh only, that’s ksh 100m

Thank you Jathur gi Ji for seeing my view. I believe that fan branches all over the country mobilized through their national leader (I don’t know if it is Jaro Soldier)as it is done through church groupings and each member charged 100/- with pay time. I am sure with good monitoring by EC more than 2 millions can be collected within one week. The mistake we make is to shut off mama mboga and baba mjengo from the centre Gor’s finances issues. My Opinion.

  • I will easily pay ksh. 100 but is there accountability, why run the club as a political party, where official s hate honesty to the death,

Chairman’s letter dated 5th December, 2019 has recognised GMAF which is good but he has in that letter directed that contributions should go to Gor Mahia account. An account he did not provide. In my opinion which is also my wish is that he should have directed that contribution should go to GMAF account.

It’s better to lose the battle and the war.
The last sentence in GMAF’s authorization letter from GMFC’s chairman is a major sign of goodwill and a victory for GMAF’s ideals.

The authorization letter states very clearly that:(i.e Gor Mahia Office undertakes)

“We undertake to apply the funds for the intended and declared purpose.

GMAF will make sure the players, TB and press know when it presents any payment.
As a start GMAF will ALWAYS hand any payment to the Captain/ the players’ representative who will in turn give it to the office to process.
