Rachier: We shall not rescind degree requirement

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier is adamant that a degree from a University is a minimum requirement to vie for an elected position at Gor Mahia. And he is adamant that the club will not turn back on the position despite protestations from Judith Nyangi who is interested in vying for the position of treasurer.

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier maintains the club will hold its forthcoming elections under a new constitution that dictates all elected officials must, among other qualifications, possess a university degree.

This requirement has, however, been opposed in some quarters.
Outgoing organising secretary Judith “Nyangi” Anyango, who is eyeing the treasurer’s seat, vowed to challenge the new document at the Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT).

The Kenyan Premier League champions will head to the polls on August 8, and Rachier, who is gunning for a fourth term in office asserted that the new constitution had already been deposited at the Sports Registrar’s office.

The senior city lawyer, who has been at the helm of Gor for the past decade, also fell short of confirming whether or not he will serve for a final if re-elected.

“There is no turning back,” said Rachier.

“This club is no longer governed under the Societies Act and the Sports Act 2013 demands we register as a sports organisation. We have to align our constitution with the (Sports) Act, which we did last year when members met at Jukwaa Lounge and adopted what is now commonly known as the ‘Jukwaa Constitution’.”

As opposed to the previous constitution which had 11 elective positions in the club’s National Executive Committee (NEC), the new document provides from five elected positions namely chairman, vice-chairman, secretary-general, treasurer, and organising secretary.

An elected official will serve for four years, and not three as is currently the case.

“Someone is trying to lock us out (of office) and he is using this degree thing,” said Anyango, a diploma holder.

“But we will not allow that. Most members of parliament and County Assembly do not have degrees and yet they handle more sensitive and taxing roles. I will petition the Registrar and move to the SDT,” said Anyango

Rachier also said the club members will for the first time virtually elect the new officials via mobile phones, owing to a government ban on public gathering to tame the spread of Covid-19.

“Technology is key in today’s world. I’m virtually studying my Master’s degree at Trinity University in the USA. I am in my third year and yet have never set foot at the institution in Illinois,” said Rachier.

“It will be a cheaper and transparent exercise. We do not need the police as there will be no unruly people.”K’Ogalo is one of the most popular and successful football club in East Africa.

Both Dolfina and Nyangi posted their qualifications online

  • That’s very easy but the problem is that ideas are hijacked by vested interests e.g:

Why does GMAF retain and refuse to pay suffering players and TB yet it has collected donations on their behalf by virtue of using the Gor Mahia name/brand.

    1) Could the aspiring GMFC treasurer, Ms. Dolfina, be using the retained GMAF funds to bank roll her campaign for the treasurer’s post. Reliable sources assert that GMAF officials created the “rule” of retaining funds meant for players soon after Ms.Dolfina was selected as an official.
    2) Ms Dolfina and her husband cannot lay any personal advantage / credit of being pictured presenting GMAF dummy cheques. These were ideas generated by GMAF members long before they joined the initiative. As GMAF member no.140+ they are not the originators of the Augmentin idea. They took advantage of presenting the cheques to increase her visibility.
    3) The aspiring treasurer is said to be behind the payment of a +40 member youth team. Can the club afford to elect such an extravagant treasurer?

  • As a social worker Dolfina seems better suited for the Secretary post.
Secondly WHY is she, being an Augmenting official, and GMAF retaining money collected on behalf of Gor Mahia players & TB. Players and TB are suffering yet they hold on to monies raised using GMFC name/ brand.

  • Sadly it seems the 2 ladies, Nyangi and Dolfina, don’t have the relevant qualifications and experience to be treasurer of a club of GMFC’s stature.
It’s like a boda boda rider wanting to fly a plane. This is a recipe for disaster, the plane will crush.
Given that GMFC is broke they can’t expect the club to again hire qualified finance managers or accountants to do their work for them.
Gor Mahia members should vote wisely.
As for Sally and Ngala their dismal track record in their previous posts should write them off.
AR is as of now unopposed.

  • The beauty of democracy/elections is that it gives anybody who meets the criterias set constitutionally to contest , the other beauty is that an opportunity is given to the electorate , on their own volition to choose for themselves who from amongst the contestants to give the mandate , the next beauty is that after you have exercised that right ? is that you live with the consequences , consequences that will affect positively or negatively , both of those who voted and the ones that didnt (vote ) .
The other beauty of a democracy is that after a certain duration , the voters/contestants are again given another opportunity to remedy any situation , if any and for the incumbents based on their scorecard to run again.
One undeniable fact is that your voting options are only limited to those who are officially in the race and as uptil today for the chairmanship , all we have so far is Rachier hence whether we love or hate him , we have no option-yet .
As for the Vice Chairman , we have Wakili Wasunna and Bolo , for the SG we have Sam Ochola and Ngala and for Treasurer we have Anyango , Dolfina and Chris .
Now from the documents shown here I see that Dolfina meets the criteria our constitution demands and that is a Bachelor of Arts degree and a photo of hers handing over a cheque , but from GMAF , Chris from what I have read elsewhere has a Masters in Finance plus his association with Gor Mahia youth team , Nyangi from the document she has posted has a Primary school certificate and I guess the only other certificate she has is a Birth Certificate .
On the SG position , Sam Ochola has not posted his documents but is a proven entrepreneur with controlling shares in Dala fm and Lolwe TV , as for Ngala , I dont have much about him apart from his proven lackluster tenure as deputy SG , his major qualification is his unrivalled sychophancy , the same is with Sally Bolo .
Those are the options we have so far , but there is still time for others to throw their hats into the ring .

  • Sam Ochola who owns Lolwe TV and Dala FC. He holds Masters Degree in Business Management and Administration.

Running for the post of Secretary-General, Ochola has promised to rebuild the Club’s most valuable department and apply professionalism it deserves.

Ocholla have previously been supporting the youth team thru one of his companies Dala FM. He vied for the same position in the last election but lost marginally to Ben Omondi.

Among the promises Sam Ochola has made; establishing effective Club operations and management structures, Youth Team development, improving technical bench and playing unit welfare., strengthening Gor Mahia branches countywide, fundraising and resource mobilization through effective marketing, club revenue growth through sustainable commercial endeavors and establishing a strong club secretariat and merchandising center.

    • HE HAS FAILED TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE OF CLUB HOUSE AND TRAINING GROUND. SO HE DOESNT HAVE MY VOTE UNTIL HE ADDRESSES SUCH. GOR MAHIA SPENDS ALOT OF MONEY TO RENT TRAINING GROUNDS, MONEY WHICH CAN BE PUT IN OTHER GOOD USES

How come no one is challenging Rachier for the top position?
This is rather shocking. There is so much more that a chairman can do for this club that is not being done.

    Is rigging in progress?
    Double registration of voters.

How and why would an individual be registered twice?
If I can, casually, pick these anomalies out how many more are there?

Some of the comments here are very fabricated, far fetched and cannot be believed by correct thinking persons. let the campaign for officials of Gor be clean. lies don’t help but remain foul in the mouth of the liar. Lies are easy to realize from the truth..

      • There is a link.
Are you saying that the link is not a genuine one?
Why are you denying the obvious double registration?
GMFC00021 and GMFC00358 are the same person so is GMFC00041 and GMFC00353.
Check the register before you blindly dismiss facts.
One of these is the spouse of an
aspiring treasurer so that candidate will get 2 votes from a single voter. That’s the weakness of e-voting with a manipulated members register.

      • The electoral board has now changed GMFC00358 from Willis Jackson Opalla to JOSEPH RAPHAEL AUKA
If you can manipulate the register you can also manipulate the e-voting.
Hapa hakuna free and fair elections.

  • Joseph Raphael Auka was previously GMFC00360.
Now GMFC00360 is JOSEPH OTIENO AGUTU.
Previously GMFC00362 was JOSEPH OTIENO AGUTU but is now NIKKO BONYOH etc etc.

This like IEBC changing electors voter’s cards or numbers after publishing the voter’s register.

The previous link has also been changed to a new one:

    https://bit.ly/3enWUAe

This can only mean one thing the original register of members has been pulled down and changed.
The million dollar question is why was the members’ register link/ the members register itself changed?

    What/Where is the fabrication here?
Facts and the truth will can’t be manipulated?
Electoral Board needs to come clean on this exercise?
It does not look like a one man one vote election more like vifaranga vya komputa
