Sportpesa invites Gor Mahia branch officials

Gor Mahia’s shirt sponsors Sportpesa have invited branch officials for a discussion. Club official David Kilo confirmed that Sportpesa would like to familiarize branch officials with certain issues.

“Yes the meeting has been scheduled between branch officials and the sponsor to interact with them on issue of the club and sponsor activities”, Kilo said.

A section of Branch officials were reported to be disgruntled at how the club is being run and also unhappy that the clubs keeps postponing key issues especially the Special General Meeting, club elections and constitutional reforms.

The meeting is on Friday 7th October 2016 at Nyayo National Stadium – Nairobi at 2:00pm. Each branch is invited to send a representative to attend the meeting.

Complaints

Earlier, fifteen branch chairmen led by Kondele’s Hezron Okoth expressed concerns with the current office’s reluctance to call for elections before demanding that the process be held by the end of next month.

“We have explored so many other channels but to no success and that is why we have come out to the media. Elections in this club were supposed to be held in February, but up to now nobody has called for the Annual General Meeting.

“We received a notice for a Special General Meeting last week only for it to be postponed without explanation.”

Addressing the matter, club secretary general Ronald Ngala assured members that elections will be held in due time. He refuted claims that the officials were deliberately delaying the process for selfish reasons.

“There is a lot that is happening right now. We have the club licensing deadline to beat and that is why we have had to come up with a new constitution.”

“We called for the SGM last week and one of the agendas was for members to pass the constitution and also to agree on a date for the elections. It is the branch chairmen themselves who asked for more time but elections will be held as soon as we are ready,” he said.

KWISHA. That’s how MPs are influenced and cajoled to maintain the status quo. 1)Is Sportpesa now the 12th official? 2)Who are they lobbying for? Branches take advantage and push for increased sponsorship. SP needs GMFC! 3)Why didn’t they meddle in AFC paka’s affairs? 4)What’s the priority at this time? Good friendly matches( Brewkenge are very much engaged) or engaging SP to do work of bloated EC and safeguard EC stomaches? BTW I’ve seen the CAF licensing conditions and they are exactly and i repeat EXACTLY what bloggers have been relentlessly advising, pleading with and imploring the thick skinned bloated EC to implement for the last 3/4/5 years. ITS LIKE FIFA/CAF HAVE BEEN KEENLY FOLLOWING GORMAHIA.NET

J’asego and branches, hopefully you will attend the meeting. Kindly seek clarification on the following: 1)What is SP’s average monthly income from Kenya compared with income from England. 2) What is SP’s yearly sponsorship to GMFC compared to its sponsorship to Hull City. Can SP table the facts followed by the rationale.

  • Of what benefit is this meeting likely to be? Someone school me on this one as I am totally ignorant!!!

  • The role of the sponsor is not just sponsoring the club but also providing oversight to the club in terms of management especially with the impeding issue of club licencing.

Sportpesa is right to do this I just hope they dont interfere with the management affairs of the club and its branches and impose bogus leaders on the club.

Some of the branch leaders might have genuine concerns about accountability among EC. In an ideal situation, Sportpesa would listen to those concerns and bring about
Sportpesa would work with the branches to energize them and increase membership while also enhancing accountability.
But I am not sure Sportpesa is interested in accountability. So far they havent shown it, whether they sponsor rugby or football, I don’t see them demanding accountability.

I think direction to take. Whenever parties meet during a crisis then something positive comes out. There is no way SP will keep quiet when it’s their brand which can be dragged in the mud.
Whoever means well for the club and is invited MUST go for that meeting and express what even us express from the ‘outside’. Otherwise whining and whining will not take us anywhere
