Sserunkuma terminates Simba contract

In the 5 years that Dan Sserunkuma played in the Kenya Premier League for Nairobi City Stars and Gor Mahia, he set the league ablaze and established himself as the best striker.  He was the key pillar when Gor Mahia won the league in 2013 and 2014. He was expected to similarly set the Tanzanian league ablaze when he moved to Simba sports club of Dar es Salaam in a much vaunted move.

Things did not turn out that way. From the beginning he faced difficulties including hostilities from certain team-mates and disagreements with certain officials. A story even emerged in the Tanzanian media that there were disagreements over the use of witchcraft; Sserunkuma is reported to have refused to participate in a witchcraft ritual.

Today Sserunkuma formally announced on his twitter account that he was leaving Simba.

“Today, Simba FC, myself and my agent have decided to mutually terminate my employment contract.” he said in a statement.

His club Simba is beset by internal problems and has had an indifferent year, finishing third in the standings, far behind the winners Yanga who have been sensational even beating Platinum United 5-1 in the CAF confederations cup.

Now that Sserunkuma is available, he will be looking for a new club during the June transfer season. Top candidates would be Yanga FC of Dar es Salaaam as well as Azam. Should he chose to return to Kenya, Gor Mahia fans would be eager to have Sserunkuma back as would coach Nuttall. Given that Kagere can deploy as an attacking midfielder, Gor Mahia could potentially field an attacking formation featuring Sserunkuma, Olunga and Kagere. Such a formation would send shivers down the spines of any defence. But whether finances would allow this to happen is different story.

And of course there would be other Kenyan sides eager to get his signature including the nouveau riche Mathare.
