Use this opportunity to educate fans

Plans are underway of a massive celebration at Kasarani this Sunday during the trophy presentation. The league title sponsors Tusker have stepped in to help with the preparations. The match will kick off at 4.30 ostensibly to allow for firecrackers at dusk. According to the Standard, there will be a number of prominent guests led by the honorable Raila Odinga. Also gracing the occassion will be former stars : Peter Dawo, Allan Thigo, Goro Oronge, George “Fundi” Onyango, David Ochieng “Kamoga”, Tiellen Oguta and Julius “Awilo” Owino.

Winning the league for the first time since 1995 is an event worth celebrating. It has been an excellent season for Kogalo on the field and off the field. It will be a season that will be remembered for a long time to come.  Club secretary general George Bwana revealed plans are on for a trophy tour in city estates and later to take it around the country.

However the one issue that continues to plague the club is the issue of hooliganism. Most Kogalo fans are sensible, and stable people who understand that their behaviour while wearing that Gor Mahia fan jersey reflects on the team. However there are some fans who simply become unhinged when they find themselves in a group with other fans.

Every opportunity must be used to try and educate the fans and make them realize how much damage they are doing to the club. Make these people realize that there are literally thousands of people who avoid coming to stadia due to hooliganism. There are probably more sponsors who would align with the club if not for hooliganism.

On Sunday, the club should use prominent current and former players to address the fans and try to impart to them the importance of behaving themselves.

Ingo you are welcome to join the green army. On behalf of our fans, I take this opportunity to welcome you officially into Gor Mahia fold. You are going to be officially initiated on Sunday during trophy presentation where you are required to come with your dancing shoes and green/white attire.

Good idea, its a huge task to impart knowledge in some of the heads but i am optimistic that this would realize good results if done consistently. Security should also be enhanced in all our games.

I think Ingo is a gor fan. The word INGO in Luo means ” you have it.”

We do hope it will be the start for revitalization, rebirth and renaissance for the former GREAT KOGALO MAHIA. Lets build from this success. i believe the future is bright for the KOGALO FAMILY. Lets emulate successful clubs like TP Mazembe and Azam FC. We can do it given our fun base and fans loyalty to the club.

Can someone advice me what is the theme of this celebrations and can we come with our families? let me take this oppotunity to thank the players not only the winning team but also those who were there at initiation of this project like blackberry, kitavii, y special acknowledgements to Rachier for the courage of stepping forward to transform the team despite ups and downs and sometimes very trying moments.
To the PATRON ‘BABA’ i simply say you are a leader per excellence. Your determination, wisdom and guidance have not only helped the world,
Africa and Kenya but also our team kogalo. With you we will never cease to hope and dream for good things.

Am not also not forgetting others like Amollo otiende, Jamawego Awiti, Dr. Sule, Okul and others.

Last its the fans. You have been great all season. In general we have behaved well even things were not very rosy. You are great and we deserve unconditional celebrations. i just want to mention Caro radull/Tim Njiru, Jaro soja, Jasuba, Sudu Jaimbo, Jalash, Okumu osoti and many others who were always in the stands even when relegation was staring straight in our eyes. We consoled our self that it was a process not an event but this has come to fruition.

I have attended a lot of fundraising for the club and i saw people giving straight from their hearts, some weeping while giving. his club means a lot for their fAns. Its not only football but its about lifestyle and identity. GREAT KOGALO YOU HAVE MADE FEEL LIKE A KENYAN ONCE AGAIN AND I HOPE I WILL BE A PROUD KENYAN IF YOU DO WELL IN CONTINENTAL FIGHTS.

    THANK YOU GOR MAHIA.

  • Bwana mwakio, asante sana kwa kunikaribisha kwa sherehe…..is my security guaranteed though?

Bwana Alego, I follow your posts along with Mwakio’s and my dear friend Barefoot as they are usually thoughtfully written. The truth of the matter is that im a fan of ingwe but Gor has a special place in my heart. You may not beleive me when I say that I may not have been an Engineer today if Gor and AFC never existed but that is the truth. Long story short, in class four I was an average student but a big supporter of Ingwe. Then a new student joined my class from another school. He was very smart but a die hard Gor fan and we instantly became rivals. From that point ,I made an effort to beat him in academics and anything else. As a result, I ended up doing well. Today, we are good friends and both doing well. That is the power of sports my friends.

A roadshow would b gud 4 selling GM in “non GM zones” i.e Central & Eastern provinces etc. Presents like GM’s Gigi Wasekawo t.shirts, bracelets, miniature flags cn b handed out 2 attract fans. Perhaps it cn still b done after we lift the GorTv shield. Citizen TV cld assist.
As 4 hooligans lets stop the flower girl approach ARREST & LOCK them up wherever caught, b it at the stadium/T.Mboya statue.
WHATS SO HARD EC & POLICE KNOW WHERE THEY OPERATE.
BUT EC MEDICAL COVER 4 PLAYERS IS PRIORITY!

Ingo thx 4 the story it is very touching & but the most the most important moral of the story is not the power of sports but rather that Gor Mahia and everything associated with it will always b better than AFC.
AFC is and will always be 2nd to Mighty Gor K’galo

@oduor12 I like the way you’re putting it,”GOR MAHIA AND EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH IT WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN INGWE AND AFC AS IT IS WILL ALWAYS BE 2ND TO MIGHTY KOGALLO” HAPO SAWA NA SISEMI KITU.

I thought the TPL 2013 champions was declared with three matches to go and what is at stake is survival for relegation bound teams. But amazingly Mashemeji rioted in the coastal region after being thwacked by DOCKERS , as if missing out on position 2 was a matter of life and death. Or is it the 1million Kshs dangled by R.A.O that is causing all the mayhem.

Surely as aptly put by Dan Original AFC will always play second fiddle to K’Ogalo, inclusive of acts of hooliganism. Now AFC must send KK homeboys back to the grass or the latter will ensure that they miss out on the carrot dangled by RAO. Football has no manners.

  • I wud like 2 take this oportunity to congratulate George Bwana for being able to stay focused irrespective of constant abuse by some fans who think they r better than Bwana.Like Jakom Ambrose Rachier one time said that being the leader in Gor is not about having a deep pocket but it is about having a cool heart and handling situations in a diplomatic manner. And thats why I always believe that Jakom Ambrose is the only one who can lead Gor to the future unlike other pple who want to lead Gor .

I have just drove past -with my Dad in the car-and seen hundreds fans trooping to the stadium.Majority are in Gor’s famous green and jerseys. My dad tells me the spectacle unfolding before us is reminiscent of December 5th 1987 when Kogalo won Mandela Cup.I am privileged to witness this historic event.I have also seen tens of mashemejis-in their blue Zebras-also heading to Kasa. This has warmed my heart Football is surely a universal language.Green army do it the best way you know how.Ours is a lifestyle.Wan to wan jonyadhi. Can some one tell me if tomorrow will be a holiday? And y did omejo riot in Mombasa? This was needless since we had agreed to donate 3 points to them and ensure they finish in position 2.Thats how magnanimous we are.

In the first half looks like the players forgot that they came to play the match. In the second half they played like champs but it was a little too late. At least tat match also showed us the weaknesses in our units. We seriously need to beef up all the areas but especially midfield. Oboya was phenomenal in that game. It’s a pity he will soon be leaving
