Willis Ochieng absolves himself of blame

Gor Mahia goalkeeper trainer Willis Ochieng has defended himself against accusations of incompetence after certain fans blamed him for the goals against USM Alger. Some called for him to step aside.

But Willis Ochieng is adamant that he is doing a fine job.

“It is unfortunate when I see the fans putting blame on me whenever Gor Mahia concedes a goal,”

“I have been with this team for a long time now and we have even won the league under my watch. Last season, Gor Mahia conceded the least goals and I don’t understand why fans should now make noise after we lost in Algeria.

“I have done nothing wrong and will continue to dispatch my duties, I know one-day God will vindicate me and even if I leave, the team will still concede goals.” he said according to goal.com

Gor Mahia has struggled to find a solution for the goalkeeping position over the past two years. Mapigano appears to have started really well and even earned a lot of praise from departing coach Hassan Oktay. But he has conceded a number of howlers of late. It may be a lack of confidence. He is clearly a good shot stopper. But his poor positioning at times is an issue of concern.

Our goalkeeping problem is of our own making. We have a very top class keeper in Peter Odhiambo who has been brilliant in games he has played. Somehow every season in the last 2 seasons, he starts as a third choice, somehow the keepers ahead of him always blunder or get injured and somehow from game 7 or thereabouts he is called to start and always delivers. He then appears to be the number 1 keeper for the rest of the season being rotated but playing more games than all the rest . However when a new season starts, he goes back to third choice. It is something I have never been able to understand. So maybe what Wills should explain is why such a talented keeper is always wasted in favour of error-prone keepers. He is the expert.

The head coach has taken all the beating and states that the buck stops with him. Alas. Our own very cannot take the blame in his area of speciality. He passes the buck. The difference is quite glaring. And the credit taker is also very much obvious. Ochieng do the obvious Bwana.

  • Did we know that Gor Mahia is the only club in East Africa that has a weekly free platform I e Ramogi Fm , K’galo time , a platform that is accesible to the fanbase all the way from Garissa to Busia to Mombasa , Kisumu , Migori , Asego , Gem and even to the diaspora .
A platform that if well used by a nominee from the EC to market , cajole , package and persuade instead of leaving such an important platform solely to Ocholla Jua kali .
While their maybe a lot of blame game to go round and the urge to do so is so strong , lets take a pause and prioritise , and the priority right now is not to throw the baby out with the bath water but rather to help the club achieve its obligation and in that respect , am going to direct my partner to send my contribution since I dont have an mpesa account for reasons that are not for this platform .
We will have ample time to vent , for their is a lot to say-just not now .

I would have expected Willis to address the matter of goalkeeper Odhiambo, why has he been relegated to third in line after such impressive performance last season? Is there something we don’t know and we are not being told?

I concur all we are asking is how come GK Odhiambo is third choice despite good performances. Is he being discriminated against because of his height (Legend Kamoga was not tall) or is there something else?
As head coach the buck stops with Pollack, he should address this issue if indeed there is a issue.
As regards K’Ogalo time Jua Kali is truly admirable , straight talking sparing no one be it fans, EC or players. This is a CAF winning legend with so much to offer but am sure his straight talk is scaring EC off him. The lady presenter “OlIdo” tries but appears to be intimidated by Secretary Ngala. Secretary Ngala is a regular participant via telephone but generally just glosses over issues and offers nothing concrete.

Willis to take blames. Remember he is the same who Kerr blamed on coaching errors of goalkeepers . Oluoch, odhoji was scored when they were off their line during kerr which made him furious with Willis. Take blame and correct yourself. You must be ready to be criticized which to me is healthy for your career development.

  • I have the deepest respect for Juakali Ochola and that why a relook of my post will show that I deliberately used the word SOLELY in reference to my point , however my point required a club nominee with an expertise in what i have enumerated because Ngala will simply react and hence would not add any value to such a priceless platform .
On the issue of Mapigano , I think the jury is too much in a rush , I remember when Arsene Wenger signed Thierry Henry , his performance in the first year was so pathetic but there was something Arsene was seeing that the rest of the “experts” could not see and the rest of the story is well documented .
The same has happened in Gor Mahia and a lot of examples including the ones who made them is well documented and need not be repeated .
The coach has hinted that he is taking his observations , not ours , into account .
Otherwise I wish to repeat that at this point a lot of positive energy building up to the D day is required .
    Donate what you can .

This is the Willis who sometimes back in his goalkeeping years was accused of match fixing when Kenya was playing against another national team probably from Arab countries. The same guy has connections in Tanzania and I think that he recommended the signing of this guy mapigano and as he’s a corrupt guy maybe he received part of the signing fee and has a mandate of ensuring that his signing works. According to my uchambuzi, the only Kenya one, that is according to my assessment, Frederic Odhiambo is suffering from Willis corruption characteristics where by you must part with some Cash to be fielded. I don’t see how this guy mapigano is considered to be better than Kenya one Frederic Odhiambo. Willis should be fired and Frederic Odhiambo will be the best goalkeeper that Kenya needs. But with Willis being retained as the goalkeeper trainer, then I don’t see Frederic Odhiambo renewing his contract with Gor mahia when his contract will have expired.

I concur with you! Fredrick odhiambo is the best keeper we have so far, just can’t understand who scouted for this mapigano! If there was a need to sign another keeper then I think we have alot have local talents…

No this is very sad we should nature our own talent which will feature in the National team no no no why is it when that when the team is at the verge of qualifying for Champions league goal keeping department fails the team. Why? this is intolerable this person must be fixing matches when the team goes to North Africa those people are not special and our Kenyan teams can beat them well if all the departments in the team are working Why should we keep this goal keeper trainer when you know that he does not want our team to conquer Africa. very sad indeed. We want to see Fredrick Odhiambo manning our goal in the next coming match and you will see. Fredrick has a lot of continental experience because he did marvelous when the team was playing against this team. Why rest an experience goal keeper like Odhiambo and take risk with an in experience one has he ever played in a continental games like champions league and Caf Confederation?

Key board “xenophobics” please be patience and sensible. You hate racism in football, hate football xenophobia. I hope you do not see Mapingano as a TZ but a GOR player. Remember the penalty specialist was also from TZ – Ivo Philip Mapunda.
@made Kenya read your post again and “regret”. do not target a player because of where they come from

  • I just needed to inquire who our goalkeeper was when we were thrashed 4-0 by Zemalek in the Caf cup last season , the second inquiry is if that keeper never conceded in other matches , what I remember is that the keeper who conceeded 4goals , saved many more that would have gone in .
Emotional outbursts is when one fails to put issues into context sometimes by having selective memories to enable one arrive at their premidatated prejudices .
My post is not to endorse anybody but rather to point out how warthogish some memories can be and then amusingly claim credit when our “expertise ” is prooved otherwise by claiming ati “if it wasnt for our pressure and insults e.g Jacques Tuisenge would not have become a star etc etc etc etc .
