Wishing Jerry Jagoal success in his political pursuits

Gor Mahia skipper Jerim Onyango has declared his candidacy for the Ugunja Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA)

“I have decided to go for the post based on the people’s desire for change and good leadership. My people here have suffered under leadership that is not so directed at them and these are things I need to help address if given the chance.

Popularly known as “Jerry Jagoal”, was born in Ugunja which is in Ugenya constituency on November 18 1984.

“I grew up here and I know the region and my people’s challenges very well. My motto is putting people first and that is what I want to do,” he said.

At secondary school level, he played for Kamkuni secondary. He then joined KRA in 2006 before joining Gor Mahia in 2009. He took over as Gor Mahia captain when Julius Owino left. He is curently the longest serving player at Gor Mahia.

Aside from James Orengo, he is likely the most famous person from Ugunja.  He has laid his groundwork in the area: Every year he sponsors a tournament for youth in the area.

It is refreshing to see a player planning for his future after football. And having a footballer in a political position will ensure that the sport prospers. There is an epidemic of land grabbing in public spaces and in primary schools that is stealing land on which the youth should be playing sports. These are among the issues that an MCA with a sporting background can address.

Good brave move jagoal. You can go for that and still remain a Gor player. That could be a first in itself.

If you have given it every thought then do not be afraid of failure just go for it. Only failures fear trying and taking risks

It is always good for a player to plan for life after his career in sports comes to an end. Jerry is simply thinking of his future. Go for it my brother.
