Nairobi City Stars handed Gor Mahia their first defeat of the season after coming from behind to inflict a 2-1 win in an FKF Premier League match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Monday afternoon.
Gor, record FKF premier league champions, were hoping to return to winning ways following their goaless draw with KCB last Wednesday.
K'Ogalo dominated the match from the start, and were rewarded in the 23rd minute through Lawrence Odhiambo goal, to go into the half with a 1-0 lead.
But City Stars came back to life in the second half, and levelled the scores on the hour mark through Robinson Asenwa, before Dennis Oalo sealed victory eight minutes later.
The loss ended K'Ogalo's three-match unbeaten run and condemned them to their first loss of the season, leaving them 9th on the log with seven points from four matches.
City Stars on their part recorded their first win of the season, which saw them climb from bottom-place to 14th with five points from six matches.
City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti hailed his charges for their performance and resilience against the experienced Gor.
"It wasn't an easy game against the experienced Gor Mahia. My boys went all out but missed to convert the few chances their had in the first half. In the second half, the boys came to life and utilized the chances to ensure they left with three points," said Muyoti.
"It was a morale booster and our fans should continue believing in us as we prepare for the upcoming matches," he added.
City Stars will face Shabana in their next league match on Saturday, November 2, 2024, while Gor Mahia will take on Murang'a SEAL the same day.
