2011 Gor Mahia election results

IN the club’s elections held on Sunday, Ambrose Rachier was re-elected as Club Chairman. Rachier polled 1,299 votes against his opponents Collins Ajok and Emmanuel Achayo who got 988 at Nairobi City Stadium.

Faiz Magak was elected first Vice Chairman. Anthony Ojee Odiyo and Sam Ominde retained the positions of second vice chairman and treasurer respectively.

George Bwana was elected as secretary general. He polled 542 votes. Jolawi Obondo and Tom Oriku pollsed 452 votes and 436 votes respectively.

Rachier was delighted in victory and urged the vanquished to join him in building the club. His two opponents Ajok and Achayo are relatively unknown. That they almost beat Rachier speaks volumes about the disillusion that many fans feel about the club. Truth be told, Rachier has done a lot for the club but there are many aspects of the club that leave a lot to be desired. Chief amongst those is the lack of financial transparency. There is also the flawed jersey deal with Legea and Tuzo. His lack of decisiveness and below par leadership when the club hit a rough patch did not endear him to fans either. Fans will be hoping that Rachier and his new team address these issues for the sake of the club.

Anyone who wants to run for office in the future should borrow a leaf from George Bwana who did a lot of groundwork including raising funds for air tickets for the club. The bottomline is that showing commitment to the club goes a long way in helping you win office. Ajok and Achayo failed in this regard. Nobody really knows anything about them, Just as critical as doing groundork is to publish your manifesto explaining what your qualifications are and what your plans are for the club. This was generally missing from most candidates if not all.

Finally this column urges fans to continue to support the club and explore ways to assist the club especially now that Kogalo is making a return to continental football.

  • Congrats to all who were elected. The comforting thing is that the elections were held in a peacefull and carnival environment. It’s good that the doubting Thomases were proved wrong and there were no pictures of voters running aroung with matchettes and nyaunyos ‘sorting’ out each other. Congrats again for that since it was in contrast to our Shemejis who also held ‘elections’ and now have like three chairpersons running the club. Our prayers for the voters to mix experience , youth and gender also worked. This because in AR we have a tested chairman despite his shortcomings (his positives outweigh the negatives), GB who despite not being in of office was very helpful to the players and the EC and Roselinda to represent the divas in the EC. Now the hard part begins as we prepare for next year. The office should now give us their plan and as fans we will be there to assist, moraly and financially. We also ask the losers to join the winners as we build GM to be the club of choice , particularly in Kenya and East Africa in general.

Congratulation to the elected office of the mighty K’ogallo. Gor Mahia Edoret Branch though voices with great concern. THE PAST OFFICE DID NOT PUT A LOT OF EFFORTS IN HARNESSING THE BRANCHES INTO AN INCORPORATED UNIT.You have to input a lot of resources in involving the branches in most activities of the club. May the office understand that for proper growth & enhancement, nothing falls short of a countrywide expectation. Let the elected office understand that with a club branch membership of almost 100 branches , more can be achieved. Lastly, despite the magnified efforts that most branches had put to ensure that “Sirkal” had the required support most compared to the English league didn’t mean that all was well. MAY YOU THEREFORE CALL AN URGENT OFFICIAL BRANCHES’ MEETING.

  • Osaka. you are right on the Admin tone in this story. That was not good when we needed the admin to be neutral so that the bolggers can give their different views. It’s sad to accuse someone of things which we might not be able to prove in a court of law. Remember there is a case of some polticians suing their colleague about what he wrote on his facebook wall. Anyway for the sake of the club let’s go on. I believe most elections are never perfect but the general trend was that the majority prefered AR and even the combined opponents votes could not match his. This does not mean that those two don’t have what it takes to lead GM but voters thought otherwise. I believe if they assist GM within or outside the EC they will be noticed and in the next elections they will be rewarded handsomely, ask G. Bwana

what happened yesterday, were not elections, but rather a contest between the aspirants on who amongst them could hire/buy/pay more voters. All the three contestants brought people to quee for them, unfortunately for the two and fortunately for rachier, the latter being an old horse, brought more people and won it.I think we need to change the way we conduct these elections so that in future we have only the bonafide members of the club vote, and not’ hired voters’.
Having said that,Amrose rachier won and just like kibaki and lately nyamweya,we dont have a choice but just to work with him.We should all join hands (those who wanted him and those who didnt’ want him like me),lets join hands and mek kogallo a better team.
Also good to see that the ‘elections’ went on without any major incident.

Congratulations to all winners. For the losers do not sulk for there is nothing to sulk about, join the winners and work together for the good of the club. A second chance for Rachier, you know very well where you failed; that’s where we expect you to concentrate -technical bench and players’ incentives, keen ears to the 12th man, supporters – kindly be more responsive to what they say – perhaps if you did that more often this past season, we could be dancing with the KPL trophy now; care fully considered recruitment on the “engine”, the playing unit as without this you have nothing to talk about.Fatherly care for the boys, NO heartless victimisation on flimsy grounds. Move on, your work is on the table, do it this time round.

I did say from on set that it’s better the devil we know than the angel we knew nothing about. I take this opportunity to thank all the loyal Ko’galo followers for making sure that AR was voted back despite the combined forces from his opponents who had nothing to offer apart from their opportunistic attempt in the 11th hour to grab power within the club at time when AR has single handedly revamped from a dying horse into a glorious outfit.

Despite the fact that AR had his own shortfalls during his tenure with regard to financial transparency and decision makings during the trying moments in the club; his overall performance and willingness to steer the club can not be over looked upon.

So let us now focus in uniting al our supporters, and let G BWABA come up with policies that will make all branches vibrant and in-come generating for GM. I also urge the new EC to work as a team and spearhead the changes that we so much needed as regards integrity, transparency and accountability with all issue,s pertaining to GM. We need engagement of the SG office with fans through an official website just like any well established club, updates on players conditions ,fitness, birthdays if need be so that as fans we can engage our players socially and morally with small tokens of appreciation devoid of the office.

ALUTA CONTINUA GOR MAHIA wish all merry x-mass and a triumphant year of 2012.

@arrumttidi post # 6 I wish to dispute your uncalled for allegations that the elections were sham and there is nothing to write home about. First and foremost the ke toons were peaceful, free and fair. Secondly the people who participated as contestants and voters were genuine Ko’galo members and there was no single intruder as witnessed by all present.

AR won straight and square despite his challengers opting to unite and defeat him. The reasons are simple and straight forward; his individual commitment, contributions and efforts were rewarded despite his personal shortfalls in some occassions. He has the vision, passion and selfless ambitions to lead the club beyond local standards, but aspire to excellence as regards modernization in world of sports.

So for those who would like to be lected next time I only advice them to start being committed to the club now and show by actions of what good you can offer ,just like G BWANA and you will be judged by the same. Otherwise lat us burry the hatchet, roll up our sleeves and embark on the next line of duty as a united front ready to conquer the best both locally, regionally and continentally.

Am glad there were massive changes at the club, with only 2 former office bearers retaining their seats. Time now for fresh ideas and brave decision making. For instance, we need to clear our minds on the coaching side, either confirm awono or employ another coach immediately so that he can have ample time to prepare Kogalo who will be contending in Europe. Then sign new players early, many quality players would like to join Gor (and Tusker). For a start we need to sign a very good right back and a very good left back. There’s depth in central defence (unless we lose masika or musa). Point is to make early decisions and form a team in good time for them to gel before a very rigorus season ahead.

I commend Achayo and Ajok for challenging Rachier. A chairman should never be elected unopposed. It makes him feel invincible and then he starts to rule like a dictator. Rachier has done much for Kogalo. Much more than any other chairman recently. However that does not mean he is an excellent chairman. He has many flaws and the Kogalo community must keep him on his toes for the sake of the club.

I commend all the winners and losers who made the elections historic. Note winners of key posts i.e Rachier (Chairman), G Bwana (secretary) and R.Achieng(D/Secretary) all made key pledges to the Green Army which we will use as benchmarks to appraise their performance. Top most for the chair and Secretary is to build a GM stadia (I feel the idea of building houses by the chair is a bit misplaced and not a priority)
Again the chair has promised to win the league and CAF cups.
As for “Jaber Machon” its accountability and transparency starting with gate collections. All these sit very well with us fans especially winning every competition. Note these pledges were necessary due to the competitive nature of the polls.
On a sad note,GM, FKF officials and the police should immediately should take note of the certain lady now blatantly selling alcohol (tusker cans)to fans. This should note be condoned and she and should be arrested at once. Already the bhangi and hard drinks (bottles which later become deadly weapons)are being sneaked in and are unbearable. Come to watch GM shine later enjoy your drink at an appropriate venue.

Let’s wait and hope that we qualify for the semis though I doubt whether we will be able to beat Ethiopia and Sudan. Could be the same treatment we got last year when we lost all the three matches. As Wuonpap says we need a foreign coach without any attachment to a local team or player. Otherwise any local coach will fill the team with his buddies

Allow me to congratulate the new K’Ogalo team and specially to AR for your re-election. Your re-election is a clear testament of confidence the members had in your leadership. it is also worthy to note, for the first time in history of the club, a woman was elected to the executive committee. Roselinda Achieng will go down in the annals of the club history to occupy the position.

I also congratulate the passionate club members who braced the heavy downpour to go to city stadium to cast their vote. I aslo commend them conducting themselves with civility before, during and after the exercise.

The new team is well aware of the gigantic task ahead of them. The reason why this election was brought forward is to allow the new team to adequately prepare the team for continental assignment. Now the ball is in your court. Finally I once again appeal to fans to give the new team support as they embark on difficult journey of returning the mighty K’ogalo on the contiental map. All the best of success.

This is a GM blog site, sawa but having watched Stars play against Malawi yesterday I think local coaches will not help Kenya, never at all. I thought Dancun Ochieng was headed to retirement before Oburu’s injury played in his way and now he is number one goal keeper for Kenya? Someone must be joking. Mulama? Mugalia, I think in over ten games has never scored a single goal? If one was really out to play youth where is Kevin Omondi in this team, where is Ken Amwayi of Stima, where are those dazzlers from Sony? Thika? Rama Salim of Congo and by the way no player at all from coast? Kimanzi and Nyamweya, what selection was that? How can you rate Dancun ahead of Jactone Odhiambo in goal?

Back to Kogalo lets build ours quietly you can clearly see that under Kimanzi, none of our players will have a part to play in this CECAFA

True True Ja Thur gi Ji, local coaches have too much nepotism embedded in their DNA. I counted atleast 5 Sofapaka players (including some who are back due to work permit reasons) and i cant help but think Kimanzi is even more lopsided in decision making than we ever thought. There’s no where this guy is taking Harambee Stars. If we don’t bring in a foreign coach soon enough then we’ll be rewarding Sycophants at the expense of professionalism. I hope the new team at Gor can quietly build Kogalo to a formidable team in the league next year and Africa as a whole.

okoth jabilo @11.it is true that we had people, and many of them for that matter who being genuine registered members left their homes to go and vote (u and i included). But let us not cheat ourselves, there were also many more, who were ferried to the polling venues by all the three contestants. If you were at the venue early enough you could see this.I also happen to knw two guyz who were tasked to ‘facilitate transport logistics’ for kibera and dagoretti. So my brother jabilo when i talk about ‘transported/hired voters’,i know what am talking about.Since all the three (rachier, achayo, ajuok) used this method no one should cry foul, even if it happens as it did that rachier transported people the most.
I think we should strengthen our election laws and work more with the branch membership lists in future. So as to eliminate such malpractices.

    Reply
  • In order to avoid the transportation of voters the other option we have is the use of delegates. The only problem with this is that we will still have the candidates ‘buying’ the delegates. Remember the Mayoral elections or the KFF elections? And the delegates will also still transport voters for the grassroots polls. At least looks like the people’s choices were more or less elected and like in any democracy some people will be disappointed. Ain’t we lucky at least to have one Chairman elected in a peacefull environment. Our Shemeji’s have three!! Let’s now embark on building the club and forget about who did what during elections since we don’t have much time for preparing our house. Let the losers also come on board and assist. The issue of winner-takes-all has been the problem in our elections.

Congratulations to all those officials(in or out)who have worked towards making K’Ogalo what it is, and for making us believe once again in what it can be. But more so, I believe that the electoral victory is a victory for the fans wherever they may be, local, regional or elsewhere. What I believe goes unsaid is that our hopes, aspirations and pride as a team will be upheld by the incoming team.GodBless and please give us the cup in the new season.

@post 31 arrumttidi & @ post 32 Godfrey opiyo I truly concur with your concern over our recent election that did not meet the required democratic standards, but comparatively like @ Dan has mentioned @ posted 33 if we judge by all standards; can we for once agree that despite all the discrepancies are we not better off than some of our competitors?

I happen to have discussed the same issue yesterday with G BWANA and for sure the best way forward will be to change the old GM constitution that served during the old era and modernize to reflect the changing times in the world of sport.

Our bloggers branch secretary Mr. Omondi omollo who is a lawyer by profession is amongst the team that is currently working on the new GM draft constitution document that will reflect on all the issue’s inclusive of the electoral procedure and voting process that will reflect on fairness and democratic practices.

Our Shemeji,s recently rushed through the constitutional change process , but in the end their EC is very much a divided house more than ever. I do not think that we should head towards such direction other than consolidate our little gains out the just concluded elections, then give the new team som space for them to bond, table their ideas, agree on a work plan with timeliness, engage the branches and lastly come with there policy document that will be ratified by members.

The new EC must strive to have collective responsibility and speak with one voice that will be directed from one centre of power. Let not encourage I’ll feelings and I’ll fighting like witnessed with former EC members.

By the time the term of current office will be expiring then we should expect the next election to carried out in a modernized manner based on the constitution and policy that will determine ways and means of having genuine members or branch delegates electing EC officials as per our aspiration.

So let’s forge together, forget about the just concluded elections and support whoever won as we console those who lost because at the end the day it is an in-house issue that requires an in-house solution.

LATEST UPDATE ON GM TECHNICAL BENCH

Just like i did mention sometime back that we need some radical surgery on the technical bench, i am happy to report that our goal keeper trainer was summarily dismissed due to indiscipline.

Three more players (names with held) have also been warned of severe disciplinary actions due to absconding trainings and engaging in some shameful behavior off field. Our former coach ZD is also being monitored closely with his sabotage intentions by influencing the three players in an all night drinking prior to playing our last match against SOFAPAKA.

COACH ANABA AONO HAS BEEN GIVEN ALL THE POWERS TO ENSURE THAT OUR PLAYERS ARE BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICAL PREPARED FOR NEXT SEASON WITHOUT INTERRUPTIONS.

Korea was sacked after punching Zablon Pro during training session when he questioned his attitude of attending training session when drunk. This is the kind of attitude that made ZD spoil young talents and JANABI MAHONO has promised to rectify.

Unless something is official, like minded fans as me will treat your info with the content it deserve. I care less what is happening on the training ground. I am equally disturbed when you intrude on the privacy of our coach and his players. I refer you to a incident the USA where a cop had a spat with president Obama. What did Obama do? He invited the cop for chat over two bottles of beer! Maybe coach Zico was using the same approvh with his erstwhile players.

As fans, let us focus on how best we can improve our club either individually or collectively. If you think our website is poor and you a webmaster, volunteer your service. If you think our players do not have a good playing ground, donate a piece of land. If you believe our boys are not getting enough exposure, fund the air tickets . On that note we ask the Sec Gen to get us an official web site as soon as he settles in the office. There was one site gormahia.co.ke run by Gidi as the official site but I think the verbal missiles he got from the contributors made him to abandon it. Its good Kogallo have done the election, piece of advice to the new office bearers and more so to AR and GB please take ,Sirkal to the next level. Kindly consider the Fc Barcelona and Real Madrid model, create the necessary transparency and accountability structures. Relook the marketing sponsorship deal coz I strongly believe that Kogallo deserves better.
