Gor Mahia Transfer news Jan 6: Marcelo departs

Gor Mahia have apparently parted ways with promising defender Eric Ouma “Marcelo”. Club Chairman Ambrose Rachier confirmed to goal.com

“Eric Ouma’s contract has expired and we have not talked with him on the possibility of renewing it. He is not our player as we speak because we don’t have contract with him,” Rachier Said.

A source confirmed to goal.com that Marcelo has indeed left the team.

“Eric Ouma has been dropped and will not be part of our 2017 squad. He never showed interest in playing for us and we have decided to cut the ties.” said the source

There has been contention within the club regarding the fact that Marcelo insists on a 6 month renewal whereas the club has been trying to get him to sign a 2 year contract.

The club has also announced that the contracts of Boniface Oluoch and Karim Nizigiyimana have been extended for two years to end of 2018.

“Gor Mahia is pleased to confirm that goalkeeper Boniface Oluoch and defender Karim Nizigiyimana have each extended their stay at the club for 2 years respectively.” according the club site.  Abouba Sibomana, whose contract expired, has also left the club.

According to the club site, seven players have so far been signed by the club:

Here is the full list: Shaban Odhoji (from Ushuru for three years), Jean-Baptiste Mugiraneza (from Azam for two years), Oliver Maloba (from City Stars for three years), Philemon Otieno (from Ushuru for three years), Jeconiah Uyoga (for four years), John Ndirangu (from AFC Leopards for three years) and Alpha Onyango (from the team’s U20 side).

Alpha Onyango was one of the standouts from the recently concluded KPL U20 tournament.

Jeconiah Uyoga was the second leading scorer in the recently concluded Extreme  Sports Super 8, while playing for Technical University of Kenya (TUK).

Jerim Onyango

According to a report from futaa.com, a number of players have been dropped by the club:

Jerry Onyango, Crispin Odula, Baron Jobita, Jackson Saleh, Luke Ochieng, Gradus Ochieng, Sammy Okinda, Ronald Omino, Bernard Odhiambo and Jacob Keli.

Jerim Onyango, the long serving club skipper has long indicated an interest in pursuing a political seat : MCA of his home  in Ugunja, Ugenya constituency.

“I have not retired just yet, who knows I could play for another six months before retiring but the truth is I will be seeking a political seat in 2017 and so I am still consulting on the best way to go about it.” he said.

Chairman Ambrose Rachier was however concerned that Jerim would be too distracted to focus on football in 2017.

  • Good to see this @ admin, please post comments direct from AR’s mouth. There is too many rumour mongering sites.

Makes you wonder why the elder players don’t sit down and advice this ‘ foolish’ youngsters.

Europe and south Africa is not heaven so don’t start walking before you crawl. Anyway, won’t be surprised if he rejoins kogallo, the transfer window is still open.

AR I wish to commend you for being firm on contract. Gor Mahia should avoid 6 months to 1 year contract as they do not make any serious development to the players and club. The minimum contract period should be at least 2 years not 6 months. Marcelo wants to bake his cake and eat it alone. The club too need part of the transfer money. Why should he be using the club name as a launch pad? Let him go to the club he wants but should not be offered 6 months contract.

Gor Mahia is not a walk in the park when you walk in and walk out any time the player wishes to walk out.

I thought there was a Simiyu from muhoroni youth somewhere in one of the many lists doing the rounds?anyway, this is a youthful recruitment that may well serve us in the future!!

It is good that Eric Ouma has been granted his wish. I am keenly watching his next move. The other matter that should be sorted out early and hopefully once for all is Gattuso.

  • Today I must commend AR for refusing to soothe players egos at kogallo. I also concur with the view that Gatusso should go, and Abondo must not return to Kogallo. Offload the baggage just the same way Loga did, and we will win trophies. Am glad that young players are being recruited this time round as opposed to the tired legs.

  • Maloba made it to my team of the season. Has a promising future. Softie will deliver. We always recruit well but I wonder why we sign so many players who never get to play then we release them. Okinda was signed in June as well as Gradus. Okinda played once while Gradus was never fielded. Why were they signed just to be released six months later. Calabar Junior should have remained though the TB has the final say and I will respect their decision. How I wish we signed Kamura in defence instead of Joash!!! Remains just a wish. @Ja’Asego un e ma une. Onge gi mosekethore!!!

This young man called Marcelo must be told that – “it’s only in Gor Mahia where once nonentities like him can make their names. He is advised to stay grounded like Olunga did if he wants to go far. The European and the Americas market is readily available for strikers and midfielders from Africa. As a defender, hold on Kidogo and seek some wise counsel before you let hype and pride destroy what is destined to be a bright future. Be guided.

Looks like they is a lot of inflow and outflow, by the time the TB and the players get their act together, it might be too late to fight for the league. By the time Ze Maria gets his first 11, it might be a little bit too late. By the way is he back? Our rivals are all training, evm recently promoted teams, and we are told Kogallo is getting ready on Monday, whats up? Otherwise, Rachier , congratulations for getting your act together this time round, no short contracts….we will at least get benefits if our players go out.

Welcome to K’ogalo to those whom have been signed . I’m happy with the contract period and the age, hope they will make us proud.
To those who had to go, !THANK YOU! and wish you all the best.

@ Ja Asego, Is Wafula still in Gor?

Can’t we just break the bank and get Humphrey Mieno and Kenneth Muguna in that midfield? @Dan Original you apparently suggested in the previous thread that Muguna is on board. Kindly verify that information with some link please. To me that would be tremendous news. I feel more needs to be done for the central defense as well. For central defense I still root for an Odhiambo from Nairobi Stima. Is this Maqbul chap coming in the left full back? How credible is the news about the striker Vincent Oburu from Ogwang’ cubs?

    Reply
    • @ Musymo all is well, its not done yet,@ Sam Muga yes Wafula is still very much a Gor player and is going nowhere,@ BB Muguna is already a GM player for 3 years but leaving for Austria for trials with a second division side, which should he be successful he will have joined them from GM not Western Stima and should things not work out he will be in the white and green come league kick-off,Oburu also signed but Afc is challenging the viability of approach (Poaching) since they claim he signed for them too…I still want Eric Johanna but that will depend on a host of factors which will pen-out in coming days

@Barefoot Bandit, Humphrey Mieno has a very tricky contract with Tusker. It says thah he cannot play for any team in the KPL for 18 months after leaving Tusker.

  • Am against this habit of massive recruit of players every year. The fact that we released a bout six players doesn’t not mean we recruit the same number of which majority seems to be average. I think TB knew which areas they were to strengthen and they should have gone for pure quality other too many untested/unproven that will add no value and become just squad players and then being released at the end of the seasons, it doesn’t make economical sense.

Were all these players recommended by the coach? Or it is the EC who are recruiting them? And how will they evaluate the coaches performances incase things goes hey wire. We have not forgotten Meddie Kagere’s case and this are the kind of excuses the coach might bring in if he fails to that he was given players he did not recommends.

@bob, my thoughts exactly. I dont dispute most of the signings and I have been told Maqbul is a top player but where did the coach watch him play consistently to recommend that he be signed? So that I am not misunderstood, my main point is not the quality of most of the players but the involvement of the coach. We all remember last season June, the coach had gone on holiday, left a list as we are being told again now, the EC did the recruitment. When we finished trophyless, the coach said he had players he did not sanction to be signed. That confusion needs to go. And why do we always sign so many only to release most of the same after six months?

Rather than pass the buck, that Ze Maria should have been around to oversee these recruitments. The transfer season will not last forever, therefore time is of the essence. I commend the action taken by EC. Suppose we waited for the coach to come and handle the recruitment then he does a Logarusic on us at the last minute? This is a transfer season and everyone is in the market looking for the best. It would be foolhardy to stay back the way we have always done only to realize that all the prized, talented players have all been grabbed by the time we make a move.

If I were the Gor Mahia coach, I would not go on a long holiday after finishing the season trophy less. I would be here and very involved in the murk and mire of the transfer season. How would I justify a long holiday after a disastrous season? Unless someone is being very economical with the truth. Perhaps Ze Maria has gone to upgrade his coaching skills after noticing his limitations and gaps. That would be very welcome. Henry Omino, Stewart Hall, Sammy Omolo, the new Brewkenge coach, etc, never went on any holidays and have been very busy with off-the pitch team preparations. As it is now he must be ready to work with the new recruits without whining nor rhining.

    • Exactly @BB. The EC has always done an excellent job in transfers over the last few seasons inspite of the few passengers we always sign who someone here always calls ‘kawna wuoda’ signings. But there is always like 90% good signings so i will ignore the 10% passengers. Ze Maria and all other foreign Gor Mahia coaches deserve holidays but must balance rest and work. If they go on holiday, EC does the recruitment as per their specifications, they should work with what they get when they come back with no qualms.

  • Concerning Marcelo’s dishonourable departure, Europe will be waiting to make him clubless once again. They have done that before to former Kenyan players who had a Europe-rush.
Am looking forward to the Dstv supercup and the friendlies in Sudan and Ethiopia.
    May God bless Jokogallo.

All my comments are ever awaiting moderation indefinitely with some getting posted 24hrs later while others never see the light of day depending on the content. Forget that all i do is inform you with insider information and i stopped mentioning EC officials names very long ago on advise of you fellow bloggers so i wonder what qualms this are that Admin holds against me to block my posts on transfers. All being said i wrote him to let you guys know that am unwelcome to blog here going forward but since i believe he wont even post that one it is better i explain to you and take my final sabbatical from this site. I will keep reading your comments but don’t expect a response from me since it is futile to even try. Wateva grievances admin holds to have decided to do this, i don’t know maybe he will respond to this post and repudiate or explain circumstances but whatever the case,am gone for i know the root-cause of all this so i can’t be hoodwinked while further frustrations of being gagged remain in place.ADios all good people and keep the fire burning…

@BB,GMFC players who like to be used in shenanigans of sabotaging coaches and who engage in indiscipline i.e Gatusso and Boni should remember, IT’S COSTING YOU THE MVP AND/OR BEST GOALKEEPER, MIDFIELDER ETC.THAT’S KSHS.IM, 500K ETC.BONI MISSED BEST GK (500K) BY A WISKER DUE TO INDISCIPLINE ATI ANA SABOTAGE FN, GATUSSO HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR BEST MIDFIELDER BUT IS NEVER IN THE RUNNING DUE TO INDISCIPLINE.BOTH CAN WIN MVP IF FOCUSSED.HOW MUCH WERE THEY PAID,IF AT ALL,FOR SABOTAGING THE COACHES ON BEHALF ROGUE OFFICIALS.I share concerns regarding Ze Maria absence since EC’s only role in recruitment is contract negotiations, I doubt if he specifically identified the players signed as he insisted he would do.Am happy with the clear out of the “recovery ward” especially refusal of allowing Jerry to “mark time” at GM’s expense. The same wave should be extended to the TB. Only other issue the squad size. For those wailing that “fans” cost GM the 2016 title you mean the 982 members? FOOTBALL IS ABOUT WINNING TITLES.
